Reaching the Haunted Forest
Chapter one: Reaching the haunted forest
A group of lumberjacks left the city and went to a certain island expecting that they would find there trees to cut down. Reaching the island, they spent a number of days looking for a forest big enough to fit into their expectations.
“We have now searched for over a month and have not yet found a forest to do our felling from,” said Peter, one of the lumberjacks.
By this time, these five fellers were assuming to be in the midst of nowhere. It seemed as if they were stranded on this enormous island. They were surrounded by seven towering hills. The clear sky, resplendent wind plus the polyphony from the solemn twittering of the birds left a notion in their minds that this day would a better one indeed.
“I think it is better for us to turn back,” Peter added.
Now Peter was gigantic gallant with a protuberant belly as though he was a pregnant lady. He had a queer masculine stature that was replica of gorilla. Strong though Peter appeared, he was chickenhearted. No wonder he wanted to turn back.
Therefore, Peter continued complaining but the others did not bother responding to him but instead kept moving since they knew fear was his Achilles heel.
Glancing from a distance, Kyle, the courageous leader of these fellers could see a valley with several trees.
Kyle said, “Look, finally there is hope for us. Lads, let us make haste so that we reach there before nightfall.”
Within no time, the firmament pitched black and there was a heavy downpour, so they all got wet but continued moving. At dusk, they reached the forest.
The forest was larger than it seemed at first sight. It had all kinds of tree species but all trees at the center were of the same kind. The trees were tall enough and formed beautiful canopies, good enough to provide shed to the other creatures.
On seeing all this, the five fellers were over the moon and extremely overjoyed. They rejoiced and made screams of joy. Since it was late, they pitched their tents in the middle of the forest, lit up a fire, got what to eat from what they had carried along and then each of them entered their tent in solitude to have a drowse and rest after such a hectic day.
As they all went to sleep, they expected deafening silence to set in, but that was not the case. They kept hearing continuous murmurings and babblings from the vicinity of where they had camped through the night. As usual, Peter was the first to comment about it.
He said,” Kyle, do you hear that?”
Kyle, who had also heard and was suspicious instead told him to shut his mouth, go to sleep and only call for help if he was in trouble. Nevertheless, the murmurings continued. Peter failed to sleep since he was very terrified.
