If Trees Could Talk!

Preparing to launch the attack

Well, the murmurings where from the trees because the forest was known to be haunted by the local dwellers on the island with whom the fellers did not interact with at all since they thought they were highly knowledgeable about lumbering. In fact, they did not even bother to find out whether there were other people on this island.

The forest was known to have weird things about it especially the trees in the middle of it. The locals knew that the trees could talk and they had hands for defense. Therefore, no one among the locals had ever dared to cut down even the smallest tree from the forest.

“ It is these humans again. I see this is a new group. They have carried all necessary machines to wage war against us. Prepare for war since it is now survival for the fittest ” said Billy, the tallest of the trees.

“We have come from too far to just be destroyed all of a sudden. We have survived many generations so, my family remain alert. You know what to do. Humans keep provoking us and we do nothing about it but this time they will see what we can do. On behalf of all the other trees in this forest that cannot fight, we are going to step up and defend our existence,” Billy added.

The trees could not sleep through the night as they were worried about when this group of humans could attack. Nevertheless, they decided that none of them could make a move unless the humans did.

At dawn, Kyle called out all his fellows thinking it would be business as usual.

“ Arise and shine, fellow future billionaires. After we cut down every single one these trees and burn them into charcoal, we will not suffer anymore,” he yelled.

By this time, there was a high demand for firewood, charcoal and poles all over the world. The problem was that the number of trees was decreasing exponentially. Therefore, the authorities tried to put up restrictions on deforestation because everyone who was unemployed had decided to join the venture.

They had put in place the “Cut 1,plant 5” project and very many other strict laws in order to prevent the long term repercussions of uncontrolled felling. Of course, these laws only applied where the enforcers were.

This explains why Kyle and his colleagues had to go to the secluded part of the country, so they chose the island. They were doing illegal felling which they knew harmful to the environment and humanity.

“ I think you have all heard of this story of two fellers that were given five hours each. One of them started using his axe immediately to cut the tree while the other spent 3 hours sharpening his axe before he started cutting the tree. I think you know who finished first,” Kyle said.

“I think someone is forgetting that he has told us this story over a hundred times,” Jarod commented.

This left all of them chuckling. Kyle then told each and everyone to assemble their tools and sharpen them as preparation for work. He also reminded them that what they were doing was illegal, so they needed to be alert so as to combat anyone that tried to oppose them.

This is why they had camped in the middle of the forest in order to start their felling from there without anyone from the outside noticing what was taking place.

Fellers had become heartless beings, not only to the trees but also fellow humans to the extent that they were willing to kill whoever tried to interrupt them. This was very simple since they had axes, blades, guns and chainsaws. They were not afraid of the army as well since they could fight anyone.
