Logan
Now that my pack was here I felt much better. Being away for them for as long as I had was difficult, and to see that nobody had come to any harm since I was last home was relieving. “Jack man, it’s so great to have you here” I smiled as he walked into the pack house. “Do you know what, it’s great to be here. This place ain’t half bad and it’s actually nice for a change of scenery” he replied to me as he scanned his surroundings. “Well I wasn’t expecting that” I joked as I shoved him. “Neither was I” he laughed. “Well, I want to introduce you to my family if these two lovely ladies will let me steal you for five minutes” I said to him as I spotted my father and brother. “Sure thing. I’ll be back in a minute guys” he turned his attention to his mother and sister. I needed to push Esme out of my mind, just for a while so that i could focus on my pack. I lead him over to where my father and Mason were standing. “Dad, Mason, this is my beta Jack. Jack, my father James and my brother Mason” I introduced them as they exchanged hands. “It’s a pleasure to finally meet my sons right hand man. I’ve got to tell you, he’s been going crazy being here away from you. Anyone would think that you guys are lovers” my father joked as he shook Jack’s hand. “We might as well be with the amount of time we spend together” Jack laughed back. “Actually Jack, it’s great to have you here. I’m due to take over as alpha soon and you have experience dealing with being my brothers beta” Mason chimed in. “Do you think you could speak to my soon to be beta, me and Logan can be very similar so I figured your perspective could be useful to him. He’s pretty stressed about becoming beta.” That shocked me, Roman was a very confident person so to hear he was stressed about becoming beta was surprising. I got it though, especially with the way things were with this pack at the moment. It wasn’t exactly the easiest responsibility to take on right now. “Sure thing man. Anytime, just let me know when” Jack agreed politely. “Thanks, I appreciate it. So how is it dealing with Logan everyday? I know how difficult he can be” Mason winked at me as he spoke. “Oh yeah, he’s a pain in my ass to be honest. He’s lucky that he’s my best friend and I would do anything for him” Jack laughed in response. “Well I guess someone has to do it” my father joined in. “Oh great, so you’re all teaming up against me now I see” I chuckled. At least they were all getting along, that was important to me. The three of them began laughing at me. “Well, it is lovely to see all of my boys this happy. And who might this be?” My mother asked as she joined us. “Mum this is Jack, my beta” I introduced her. “Oh wow, it’s lovely to finally meet you” she exclaimed before pulling Jack in for a hug. “Thankyou for looking after my baby for me” I heard her whisper to him. “Mum come on don’t call me that in front of my beta” I blushed at her words. My mother had always been protective of me and it could be embarrassing at the best of times.“Well, it’s lovely to have you and the rest of the pack here. I hope you’ll feel welcome to stay as long as you please” she smiled at Jack. Of course she wanted them all to stay as long as possible, that meant that I would be here. “Of course Luna Calliope. Thankyou for having us, your hospitality is much appreciated.” Well at least my family loved my beta. “Jack, you brought your mother and your sister didn’t you?” My mother asked. “Yes I did Luna” Jack confirmed with a nod. “Oh please, call me Callie. I would love to meet them if you wouldn’t mind?” She asked my beta. “Of course, come with me and I will introduce you” Jack smiled before they both walked away. “Blaire, there you are I was just thinking about you” Mason smiled as his mate joined his side. “I thought you might be” she smiled, kissing him on the cheek. If Esme wasn’t with Blaire then where was she? “Blaire, I don’t suppose that you have seen Esme at all have you?” I asked against my better judgement. I knew how mad Esme was with me right now and she probably wouldn’t appreciate me asking around about her whereabouts. “Oh we bumped into Brandon after training, the last I saw her she was speaking with him” Blaire avoided eye contact with me. So she knew there was something going on between Esme and I. “Oh, I see” I muttered, trying to hide my disappointment. Of course she was with the one person that would get under my skin.
Esme
“And that’s when he realised that it wasn’t even turned on!” Brandon laughed as he told me his story. “Your poor father, he must have felt so stupid!” I exclaimed. I’d had a surprisingly fun afternoon with Brandon, I had taken him into the town and showed him all of my favourite spots in the pack house. Now we were sat in an opening in the woods eating the ice creams we had picked up in the town. I was really enjoying Brandon’s company, it was a breath of fresh air after everything I’d had going on with Logan recently. “Oh yeah, he sure did. I bet your dad isn’t that stupid” he spoke as he grabbed his drink. My heart sunk as he spoke. Even after all this time, it still stung when anyone mentioned my father to me. “He was” I forced a smile, trying not so cry. Brandon’s face dropped as he realised what I meant by was. “Oh god Esme I am so sorry, I had no idea!” He apologised moving closer to me. “Oh don’t be, there was no way you could of known” I assured him. It wasn’t his fault that my father was dead. “I don’t really talk about him much, it’s still a bit of a hard subject for me if I’m being honest.” Brandon nodded as if to say that he understood. Well this wasn’t awkward at all. “So, you’re going to be alpha soon?” I changed the subject, not wanting to talk about my father any more than I already had. “Yeah I am. I was actually meant to take over last year, but circumstances weren’t ideal at the time. To be honest, I don’t mind it much it’s given me more time to live my life. We decided I wouldn’t take over until I’m 20 so I’ve still got 6 or so months left of my freedom” he answered me. I wanted to ask what he meant by circumstances but decided it wasn’t my place to pry. “Well, I guess that makes sense. I think Mason wishes that he was able to do the same to be honest but the alpha is ready to hand over the reigns” I continued the conversation, hoping maybe he would open up to me, tell me about these so called circumstances. I couldn’t help my need to know everything, it was just who I was. “Yeah it’s been great, part of me is not looking forward to being alpha at all, it’s a big responsibility” he confided. He wasn’t wrong, it was a huge responsibility. “I am sure that you will be fine Brandon. Sometimes things are worse to think about than actually do” I attempted to reassure him. Probably not being an alpha though I thought to myself. “Yeah, you are probably right” Brandon smiled. As I looked down at my watch, I realised that it was almost dinner time. I had been enjoying myself so much that I had completely lost track of time. “Anyway it’s getting a bit late, we should head back to the pack house for dinner” I spoke getting up to my feet as Brandon did the same. “You know what Esme you seem like a really great person” he assured me as he got closer. “Awh Thankyou but I don’t think so. I don’t do anything more than what anybody else would do” I brushed his compliment off. I was nothing special. “No you really are. That is what’s going to make this so much harder” he growled as his eyes narrowed in on me. “What do you mean?” I asked, confused by his words. Just as I said it I felt a sharp pain blast through the back of my head before it all went black.
