Between Tides and Steel

Chapter 2

Marielle’s grumbling tummy woke her up from her nap. She realizes that she’s still here, and she lost hope of waking up from this dream.

I guess this is my life now. I need to suck it up. But I don’t even know this person’s personality, and I don’t know a thing about this world either. Better start my research now. She thought to herself.

She got up and peeked through her door, and proceeded to go out of her room to search for food. She just walked and walked, not even knowing where the kitchen was until she bumped into a maid, which both startled them, and she immediately tried to leave.

“Wait, princess!”

She immediately froze in her tracks while the maids rushed to her side. “Where are you going, princess?”

“Uhh, the kitchen? I’m lost,” she scratched her nape and gave a shy smile.

She knew every inch of the palace before the incident. Poor princess, she really can’t remember anything.

The maids smiled at her and showed her the way into the kitchen, and she thanked them for that.

Once in the kitchen, she still couldn't stop her mouth from gaping wide. It’s marvelous, now she knows that everything in this palace looks so dreamy, luxurious, and expensive!

Also, there are a lot of food options to choose from.

She sat on the seat prepared for her by the butlers and maids. She blushed and was flustered when they were about to serve her some food, and spoon-fed her. For her, it felt so embarrassing and too much as she could do it herself.

After eating, she asked her ladies-in-waiting to have a quick walk around the place, and they agreed. It’s time for her to familiarize herself with every corner of the palace. She was in awe and loved the place, but deep inside she thought that something was missing, or rather, she was missing something.

“Can we ever go out of the palace? We're inside this giant bubble and I wanted to explore the kingdom more”, she asked.

“We can, princess, but we need to accompany you and bring some guards with us as well for your safety.” One of the ladies-in-waiting informed her.

“But how do we go out? And won’t we suffocate as the area outside the bubble is water? Plus, we are in the deepest part of the ocean.”

“Oh, you don’t need to worry about that princess, the bubble is a magical barrier, and you can go in and out easily, and once you’re out of the bubble, you will not suffocate too as we can all breathe underwater, and you will transform into your mermaid form.”

It’s good to know that I can go out easily, but with a lot of guards and chaperons with me? That would only call for attention.

While walking around, she was looking for a spot where she could escape without anyone noticing, and she was making her escape plan and how to get back without anyone noticing her or suspecting her escape. Marielle didn’t respond anymore and just smiled as she walked back to her room.
