Chapter 2

Amelia POV After practising spells the whole day I was tired and hungry. I went to the kitchen to fill my empty stomach. No one was in the kitchen except my caretaker. "Everyone at the dinner, do you want me to reheat it or make something fresh?" She asked me. "Why are you awake at this hour. You should take care of your health" I said ignoring her question. "I knew you would come for a midnight snack so I stayed. Now tell me what do you want?" She asked politely. "Reheat the dinner" I replied. I took my cell out. There were fifty messages and thirty calls from Lily. "f**k, she would kill me," I thought. "You are right about that" A voice came from behind me. "When did you come?" I questioned. "When you decided to check your cell after a whole day," Lily said sarcastically. ( Lily is Caroline's daughter and my best friend since childhood. She is like my blood sister. We live together at the main house along with other elders. The rest of the coven members live nearby at their own house.) "I was upset so......" I said "Ugghhh...You went there again, Amelia, mother will scold you if she hears about this" she said. "I know, let's not talk about this. How about going for a midnight walk" I suggested as an evil thought popped into my mind. "Where?" she questioned. I looked around to find that the caretaker had already left after placing the dinner at the table. "Outside the barrier" I whispered in her ear and gave her an evil smile. "How? The barrier was only opened last year for the elders to go for the council meeting. We can't trespass it." she questioned. "I have learned to open a portal outside the barrier" I answered. "But...." she said with hesitation. "No buts, I had already tested it. Don't be a coward. Let's go. We won't go far" I assured her. "Ok, but if we got caught, you will be the one taking the whole blame" she smirked. "Ok, I agree" I answered leisurely. I quickly finished my dinner and we set off for the adventure. After reaching the forest I closed my eyes and began mumbling the spell. At once a portal opened. Its light was illuminating the forest. "Hurry up, before we get caught" I took Lily's hand and walked in the bright blue light. We came out in the thick forest and the portal closed behind us. "That's it, we are out?" she questioned with a shocking voice. "Yes," I gave a proud reply. The blood moon was directly above us. The sky was of red shade. The howling of the owls could be heard. Forest was pitch black. Nothing around could be seen. Suddenly something flew past us. "Aaaaaaa........ " Lily shouted. "You are a shame to our name. People are afraid of witches and here a witch is afraid of a bat" I mocked her and started laughing. "Shut up! How about going back. We can come again in the morning" she suggested. I had an uneasy feeling since the evening and it increased at the night. Something was urging me to come here. "How about you stop being a coward and take a small walk" I taunted her. We walked for a while in the thick forest. Suddenly the smell of burning reached my nose. "Let's go and check it," I said to lily indicating the smell. After walking a few yards we reached a ground full of dead bodies. The camps were burning. The fire was engulfing the bodies. The fire seemed to be set off deliberately. "Seems like a war happened here," Lily said breaking the silence. " Yes, Fire is spreading, let's go" I answered. As we were about to leave, I saw a moment of hand from the corner of my eye. I rushed over towards the injured man in the dark corner. I checked his pulse. It was so slow that I almost couldn't feel it. His breath was short and ragged. "He's alive," I said to lily. We took the unconscious body away from the fire with a hell of an effort. My heart was skipping beats. Something was telling me to save him at all costs. I can't explain that feeling in words because I felt so lost at that moment. It was so hard, so suffocating that I didn't even know what was I doing. I regained my senses and started mumbling the healing spell. It wasn't working. He was injured too badly. "Help me lily" I pleaded with her. She tried a healing spell but it also didn't work. "There is too much silver in his system, we can't save him," she said giving up. "He is the only one who survived the battle. This means that he is bound to live. Please lily thinks of away. We can't leave him" I again pleaded with her. "How about we both do the healing spell at the same time" she suggested. "Let's try it," I said without wasting a second. We both began mumbling. After draining three fourth of our energy his breathing finally got stable. I took a breath of relief. It was like a heavy burden that just got lifted off my head. Even though his breathing was stable but he was far from healed. He needed a lot of care and weeks of rest. "Now what?" Lily asked looking at the unconscious body lying in front of us. "Don't even think about it" Lily warned reading my expression. "How about taking him back with us" I suggested. "That's absurd. Elders won't allow a person that came out of nowhere to stay with us," she said loudly. "We can't just leave him here. He needs care. Moreover, who would tell them about him? You? " I said. "Are you kidding, I won't speak about it to even a single soul. But Amelia thinks about it seriously. If this matter leaks your position as the future coven leader will be disturbed." Lily pleaded "I have decided, we will take him back with us. In case of any chaos I will take full responsibility " I spoke as the determination was evident in my voice. "But the main problem is where will he stay" Lily raised a question.
