Chapter 6

Amelia POV I got up at sunrise. Last night was quite uncomfortable. I kept changing my position but didn't get a moment of peaceful sleep. I felt a longing for something. But couldn't pinpoint that thing. So as soon as the first ray of the sun fell on the earth, I jumped out of the bed. I walked lazily to the washroom. After doing my routine business, I walked to the basin to wash my face and freshen up. "Wooooo, Who is this ugly girl ?" I said as my gaze fell on the mirror. The girl had dark circles around her eyes. Her hair resembled a bird's nest. Drool was all over her mouth. I quickly fixed myself and walked into the closest. As today's weather was pretty good so I was up for a morning run. I pulled out my tracksuit and put it on. I put my hair in a messy bun. "At least now I look presentable. Ready for a morning run " I fist palmed myself from the mirror. Silence hit my face as I opened my room door. People in the mansion are usually up around eight and breakfast is served at nine. So cooks came by at this hour. My room was on the third floor. I had my private wing. So the entire floor was mine. Lily, Elder Caroline and other elders lived on the second floor while the ground floor consisted of the main kitchen, living room, and guest rooms. I descended the stairs and walked into the main kitchen. I saw some cooks and my nanny there. "Good morning! you woke up early today" Nanny said "Couldn't sleep, so I decided to go for a morning run" I answered. "Are you having nightmares these days?" she asked. "No" I replied flatly. Little did she know that they never stopped. The death of my mother and the disappearance of my father took a great toll on me. At first, I couldn't sleep but then I gradually became habitual to them. Though they still scare the lights out of me but a person has to live on. One thing I can say with assurance is that my discomfort of last night was definitely not caused by the nightmares. "Do you want something?" she inquired the reason for my presence in the kitchen. "A bottle of water" I answered. She gave me the bottle and I exited the mansion. Cool air was blowing. I started my morning run, greeting the people on the way to run. The chirping of the birds and the rustling of leaves on the swaying branches of trees freshened my mood. At first, I decided to visit Him but then imaging my sweaty appearance, I decided against it. I ran back to the mansion. I took a quick bath and once again stepped into my closet. I chose a baby pink floral frock. It goes by my knees. It is an off-shoulder frock. I then applied minimal makeup to my face. As for my hair, I braided them. Satisfied with my look I went downstairs. Everyone was at the breakfast table. "Good Morning!" I greeted. "A very good morning to you too sweetheart. Come have some breakfast" she invited. I sat at the table with Lily. "It's time to send him back" Lily suddenly said. I choked on my food and glared at her. "We will discuss this later" I whispered. She looked my way like she was ready for a battle. "I am full," I said and stood up from the table. I went to the kitchen and secretly packed breakfast for him. As I was exiting the kitchen a voice stopped me. "Where are you going?" Elder Caroline asked. My face paled. I certainly looked like a deer caught in headlights. "Saw an injured deer on my morning run. So I decided to give him some food" I lied. She looked at me doubtfully then said "Come back soon and be on time in training grounds" "Will be" I said and rushed out of the front door. I carefully went to the cave. He was awake but still laying on the bed. He looked good today. From yesterday's events, I judged that he was an arrogant and dominant person. But I think I can handle him. "Good Morning" I greeted. "Morning" he mumbled. "I brought breakfast for you." I said. "Put it on the table, I will eat it later" he said. Someone definitely lacks basic etiquette. "How are you feeling today?" I asked. "Same as yesterday" he whispered. "I have some work, I will come by in the evening. If you need something you can tell me" I inquired. "No, I don't need anything" he replied. He is a strange person. I could feel attractive waves radiating off him. How can I be attracted to someone so arrogant? I collected my scattered thoughts and walked away from the cave. I reached the training grounds on time. Lily was waiting for me there. "How is he?" she inquired "Same" I replied. Elder Caroline came and we all young witches started practicing. After some time. "You are yet to reach the level of perfection, Practice more!" Elder Caroline said. "But I had already practiced it more than fifty times. It can't be improved anymore" I replied. "The more you practice, the more perfect it will be, your mother was a master of all the spells. Due to this, we were living in peace and no one would dare to mess with us. Now you see all species are eyeing us. They look down on us. To become a respectful coven leader you must gain enough power that would shut their mouths once for all" she advised me. "My mother was a born leader. She was an example of perfection. I know these all sayings. My mother was she and I am I. I don't think I can even reach fifty percent of her" I said frustrated and exited the hall. Since a child, I was taught to be like my mother. As the only heir of the leader, I ought to handle the responsibilities of the coven. I was never given a choice. If I was ever given a choice I would just work on portals and the case of my missing father. When I was young he went mysteriously missing one day. I don't remember what exactly happened, all I know is that he was working through a mysterious portal. He went for his practice as usual and never came back. Even my mother couldn't reach him through the mate bond. At last, she died of grief. I like working on portals. This is the only magic that I am best at. But the elders don't allow me to work on them. According to them they are dangerous and exhaust a person. But every magic exhausts us to some extent. I tried to reason with her on occasions but to no avail. She never listened to me. Whenever I want to practice portal magic, I went to the cave. That place is my secret hideout. I found an ancient book of portals from my father’s belongings. That book became my guide. I had almost learned half a book. After the little clash between Elder Caroline and me, I went to the cave. It was almost evening now. Xander was sitting on the bed. The breakfast tray was empty. He sensed my presence and looked at me. "How about a stroll outside," I asked He stood up and walked towards the entrance. I lifted the barrier. We walked in complete silence. But that silence was a calm one. "Bad mood" He suddenly spoke up. I looked at him in surprise. I wasn't expecting him to start a conversation. "Yah! got into a clash," I said. He hummed. I was glad he didn't ask more, otherwise, I don't know how would I answer him. "How about watching the sunset. I know a very good spot." I suggested. "Up to you" he answered. We climbed a bit of a mountain. I then took him to my favorite spot. Lily and I discovered it accidentally. We sat on the edge. The sky was turning a beautiful shade of orange, pink, and blue. White clouds were scattered in the sky. Sun seemed to be descending in a valley. Birds appeared to be returning to their homes. The cool breeze was blowing past us. The atmosphere was calm and peaceful. From the edge, we could see the vast forest below. It spread far from our eye range. Little houses on the mountain looked like fireflies in the grass. A pair of squirrels was sitting on the tree that was beside us. Watching the sunset together, they looked so much in love. To be honest I was starting to be envious of them. "When will I find my true love," I thought. My eyes drifted off to him. He seemed to be looking in my way but quickly averted his eyes as I saw him. "Tell me your name?" I asked breaking the peaceful silence. "Xander" he replied after some thoughts. His name matches his uniqueness. He should be awarded the title of " Most handsome piece walking on earth" "Hi, my name is Amelia" I put my hand forward "I know" he replied. "I am trying to start over. Let's forget our previous interaction" I stated. He looked at me as if he was staring at someone stupid. He nodded his head and then put his hand on my extended hand. A buzzing sensation came up at the contact. I quickly pulled my hand away. From his expression, he felt the buzz too. We looked at each other for a while. Sun was illuminating his handsome face. His messy hairs were giving a totally different vibe. That bad kind of vibe. His sharp features looked sharper under the sun. My eyes drifted off to his lips. They were just perfect. From the lip lines to the color. He truly lacked nothing. "Look the sun is setting. Isn't it beautiful?" I said to lighten the mood as I looked towards the horizon. "Beautiful, indeed," he said. I felt like he said the phrase while looking at me. Crazy me. Why would he say something like that to you? He must be looking past me. My subconscious said. "I want to ask you something" he demanded. "Speak up," I said. "How long was I unconscious?" he inquired. "Three months" I answered. "What!!" He said shocked. "How come I didn't notice the change in weather," he said to himself. "Thanks for taking care of me for such a long time. I will try my best to repay you. But I have to leave. I cannot stay any longer. My pack needs me " he said. " You are not healed yet. And your wolf hasn't shown up. Wait for him. Only then you can easily return to the pack. And your pack won't crumble just by your absence" she said "It will crumble without me" he mumbled
