Chapter 10
Her lips tremble as she stares at the little girl with sadness written all over her face. For some seconds, she bats her eyelashes to be sure that this isn't some sort of dream, and when she opens her eyes, she's still there.
Gulping down the sudden lump that formed in her throat, she slowly drags her legs along until she gets to the side of the bed, and slowly squats down. Her paralysis is so obvious that anyone would know with just a glance. Although she's just meeting the little girl for the first time, she feels so sad to see her in this condition. Now, she doubts if this little girl is really his daughter. He wouldn't have left his daughter to be in this much pain, right?
Slowly, the little girl opens her eyes, and a drop of tears slid down the corner of her left eye. She opens her mouth to talk, but she can't find her voice. Her throat hurts and feels dry. She's in so much pain, and it hurts her that she can't even move her body.
"Da...da...ddy..." She manages to whisper, tilting her head slowly to look at the door. Tracy needs no one to tell her that she needs her dad when she manages to understand what she said.
"I'll get him for you," Standing up to her feet, she rushes over to the door and storms out of the room. A few minutes later, she returns with Tristan.
"Mia baby... Are you OK?" He asks softly, as he walks over to sit on the edge of the bed with her, taking her little hand in his hand.
"I want to stand up, daddy... I want to walk, please..." More tears stream down her cheeks as she whispers. His heart wrenches in pain, and he sighs briefly. It hurts to see her in so much pain, but what hurts the most is the fact that he can't even help her. For the past three years, his little six years old daughter has been going through this pain, and it seems like it's never going to stop. He has hired so many doctors to take care of her and cure her, but none of them was able to do anything, so he only ended up losing hope. Since there's no hope of her getting better again, he can't admit that death is the only way to free her from this pain, but at the same time, he doesn't want to lose this innocent child that he loves so much.
"You'll be fine, OK? Just give daddy a little time, and you'll be fine. I'll make sure of that," He assures her after he leans over her and kisses her forehead, giving her an assuring smile.
Tracy stares at them with tears in her eyes. Who would've ever thought that the mighty Tristan could be this emotional? Who would've ever thought that this man has something bothering him behind his closed doors? She has so many questions to ask him, one of which is what happened to the little girl, how she ended up like this, and why he hasn't tried to take her to the hospital for proper treatment, and also her mother... She needs to know where her mom is, but she's not sure if it's a good idea to ask now.
"Is she your girlfriend?" She manages to ask, after glancing at Tracy, and he shakes his head.
"No, baby girl. She's not my girlfriend. She's your new nanny. She'll be taking care of you henceforth. Do you like her?" He asks her and glances over to Tracy again.
"I want to sleep in your arms, daddy..." She requests, and he quickly nods his head.
"Sure," He carefully picks up her half-dead body, and holds her in his arms, until she falls asleep...
Later in the evening...
Tristan sighs for the umpteenth time after staring at the sky for a few minutes. It's evening already, and just like every other day, his day was filled with emptiness and sadness. He has everything that he desires, cars at his disposal, beautiful houses, and companies fetching him money. He has virtually everything, but what he still lacks is happiness. Will he ever get to be happy after everything he has been through in his life?
"Good evening," Tracy's voice suddenly pulls his attention from behind him, and he sighs briefly, shutting his eyes. He already warned her to stay miles away from him and not show her face on the second floor, so why's she here to disturb him?
"I thought I told you not to come here?" He asks her coldly, not sparing her a glance.
"I have waited for you to come downstairs but you didn't. I came to ask you if I can spend the night with Mia in her room. I don't think it's nice for her to sleep alone," She says, and he finally turns around to face her. He stares at her blankly for some seconds. It's the first time someone is asking to share the same room with Mia. All the nannies he hired in the past never agreed to sleep with her in the room, and he ended up sacking them all after he found out that they were not good enough. But to think that someone that just came to his house today wants to sleep in his daughter's room, he can't help questioning her motive.
"She can sleep alone," He replies to her casually, turning away from her, and she scoffs unbelievably.
"But..."
"Go away..." He sneers at her, and she flinches...
