Chapter 9
After almost thirty minutes of driving on the road, they finally arrive at Tristan's mansion, and the car haul at the parking lot.
"We're here," The driver's voice jolts her back to reality, and she sighs briefly. Hopping out of the car, her mouth almost drops open at the sight that welcomes her. Although she has been here before, she didn't have the time to check around that place. It still feels like it's her first time being here. Staring around the parking lot, she can't help wondering if it's a place where cars are sold, because of the number of cars that are parked. It can't be that it's just for fashion, right?
The mansion in front of her is magnificent, painted in gold paint with a touch of white. There's a water fountain in the compound, and the pool is just adjacent to the parking lot. She only get to see good houses like this in movies.
"This way, miss," Still lost staring around, the driver's voice suddenly pulls her attention, and she turns around to follow him as he leads the way to the entrance door. She wasn't allowed to take any of her clothes with her so she came here empty-handed.
Her heart beats rapidly against her chest as they both stop in front of the entrance door. They both walk inside once the driver pushes the door open. Stepping into the living room, she's even more wowed by the interior design of the building. The living room looks sparkling neat. The couches are the most beautiful pieces of furniture she has ever seen, the walls are painted in white rough paint, a big chandelier light hanging on the ceiling, the curtains look expensive and beautiful, and the beautiful and sweet scent fills her nostrils. She can't help complimenting the living room and wondering how much money he must've spent to make it this beautiful. Not that she's surprised anyway. Wealthy people love living in luxury.
The sound of the footsteps descending the staircase pulls her attention, and her heart sinks into her stomach when she tilts her head to see him walking down the staircase. Her mouth drops open at the most handsome creature she's seeing. His multiple-colored hair is parked in a ponytail, and having very small or no tail, his short black trouser stops right before his knees, exposing his hairy legs, and his perfectly toned abs are visible from the white singlet that he's wearing.
"Wow!" She can't help the exclamation that tears through her throat, but realizing that this same man made her sleep in the prison for three days, made her lose her sister, announced that she failed the audition even when it was obvious that she passed, and now she's going to be stuck with him for some time, she can't help feeling like strangling him to death instantly, but who says that she can do it? Not that she wants to end up getting killed too anyway.
"Good morning," She greets him casually but tries to sound polite.
"Morning. Sit!" He says to her after he slumps on the couch, and she walks over to sit on the couch. An awkward silence suddenly assumes the air, as she waits for him to start the conversation.
"What's your name again?" He asks again for the umpteenth time since they met.
"If you can't even remember a single name, how do you manage to memorize a script?" She wanted to ask him that, but knowing that it'll put her in more trouble, then she better watch her words.
"Tracy Wilson," She replies to him, looking everywhere else except his face.
"Tracy... I'll go straight to the point..." He pauses and reclines on the couch, swinging his leg over the other.
"You're going to be babysitting my daughter for six months, and your salary will be four thousand dollars monthly. You have just six months to spend here, and at the end of the day, you'll take your balance of a thousand dollars," He explains to her, and she almost scoffs. It's still unbelievable that she's going to work for so many months and end up getting nothing. Her life would've been better if she was to collect the monthly salary. At least, twenty-three thousand dollars will go a long way to take care of herself and her sister, but all thanks to this i***t, she's going to waste six months of her life here. If he had just taken the clothes from her when she brought them, this wouldn't have happened now.
"Do you understand?" He further asks, and she nods her head.
"Great... I have my rules guiding my house, and if you dare violate any of them, you'll blame it on your luck and spend some nights in the cold outside," He says to her strictly, and she bites her bottom lip. Her hand itches to send a hard punch to his face, but she's handicapped. How dare he tell her that s**t?
"Uhm... Are you the one I'm babysitting, or your daughter?" She suddenly asks out of the blue, blinking her eyes questioningly. If she is here for his daughter as he claimed, then isn't it time to see her yet? Besides, she is still finding it difficult to believe that he has a child. He has been on the air so many times, and in some of his interviews where he was asked to air his opinion about having kids, he always said that he never had plans of having kids, so it's still confusing how he suddenly said that he has a daughter now.
"I'm not done talking..." He says to her sternly, and she sulks in her lip.
"Rule number one, you're here for my daughter, so stay miles away from me for your safety. Don't come upstairs if you don't want to be kicked out in the middle of the night..." He says to her.
"Not that I want to go anywhere close to you anyway," She so much wants to scream at him, but learning to control her anger is the only solution now.
"I will do that," She nods her head.
"Good. Take this direction. Her room is right there along the hallway. It's the third room by your left-hand side," He points in the direction, and she glances at him unbelievably. Here she was, thinking that he'll take her to the room, but turns out that she expected too much. How could she even trust a total stranger with his daughter? What if she's a bad person?
She shakes her head momentarily when she's sure that he's not looking at her. Standing up from the couch, she walks away in the direction that he gave her, hoping to find her way, and she manages to. She stops in front of the door and takes a deep breath, before pushing it open. Stepping into the room, she freezes on the spot at the sight that welcomes her. Lying on the big bed is a little girl. She looks so pale. Slowly, she walks closer to her, but she's even more shocked when she realizes the horrible sight before her. The little girl has partial paralysis...
