Chapter 8
"We're here, ma'am," The cabby's voice pulls her out of her deep trance, and that's when she realizes that the cab is already in front of her apartment.
"Thank you," She says to him and hops out of the cab, after which she pays him. Tristan was nice enough to give her some money to take a cab home, who knows, she would've lost her life on her way walking home. She went to the hospital as soon as she got out of the cell, but the doctor told her that Tatiana has been discharged after someone paid for her hospital bill. According to the doctor, a group of welfare team came to the hospital and she was lucky to be one of the people that got selected for the welfare experiment.
She stares at the building in front of her and sighs briefly. It has been three days since she has been away from here, and she has really missed the comfort of her, but what hurts her the most is that she may never get to be comforted by her bed, as she'll be moving in with Tristan in a few days. She can't help wondering what'll become of her sister if she eventually leaves her, and the life that awaits her in the strange house she's going to be living in.
Taking a deep breath, she finally drags her feet toward the building, and she walks in after she pushes the door open. Stepping into the old log cabin, the smell of alcohol and cigarettes welcomes her, and she almost pukes. No! It can't be that Tatiana is at it again, right? She just got discharged from the hospital and couldn't have been so stupid to risk her life taking that again, right?
In a bid to satisfy her curiosity, she proceeds to her room, and she was right. Tatiana is right there sitting on the edge of her bed, puffing smoke from her mouth and nostrils, she has a stick of cigarette in her right hand, and her other hand holding a bottle of alcohol. Her eyes are red and puffy like she just cried or something.
"Tatiana..."
"Have I become such a disgrace to you that you don't even care?" Tatiana asks with pain resounding in her voice. A drop of tears slid down her cheek. She smiles painfully and takes a sip from the bottle of alcohol.
"You're hurting yourself, Tatiana. You just got back from the hospital, and..."
"Aren't you tired of pretending to care about me? Aren't you tired of making that fake face, when the only person you care about, is yourself?" Tatiana scoffs unbelievably, and she pulls a puzzled look. Now she's getting confused. What is she talking about?
"What are you talking about? Can you put that away, please? You had cardiac arrest, and..."
"I'm going to die, anyway... What do you care? I am sick and tired of you making me feel so important in your in your life when you don't even care about me, Tracy..." Tatiana yells angrily, standing up to her feet as a drop of tears slid down her cheek. Her heart wrenches in pain.
"Look... I'm sorry, OK? I know I should've been by your side..."
"But you chose to go stay somewhere else because you're tired of me. You were hoping that I die there in the hospital... You were so tired of my troubles that you felt that it was a rare opportunity to get rid of me, isn't it?" Tatiana scoffs as more tears find their way out of her eyes, and Tracy sighs briefly. She's getting it all wrong. How could she have said that? How could she even think about that?
"Yes, I'm the bad one... I'm the one that brings you nothing, but trouble... So why don't I save you the trouble and smoke like ten packs of cigarettes today, and suffocate until I die? You'll be happy then, right?"
"Just stop it, Tatiana! How could you even say this to me? I love you... I care about you and you know it..." She breaks down in tears, and Tatiana scoffs as she bites her bottom lip. Even if she wants to believe everything she has said, a part of her still feels like she doesn't care. Just three nights ago, she has woke up from that life-threatening cardiac arrest, expecting to see her sister by her side, holding her hand and telling her that she'll be fine, but she wasn't there. She left her the time she needed her the most, and now, she doesn't know what to think anymore. Yes, she has been the best sister to her, and she can't deny that fact, she still cared about her even as she brought her nothing, but trouble... But now, she doesn't know what to think anymore.
"Tatiana..." She tries to touch her, but she steps away from her, shaking her head.
"Don't... Touch me..." Tatiana warns her.
"Don't come looking for me," And with that, Tatiana drops the bottle on the table, and storms out of the room.
"Tatiana... Tatiana... Wait for me..." She calls her name repeatedly, running after her, but she didn't even stop to cast her a glance. She watches as she hauls down a cab, and hops in, and the cab zooms off afterward. Tears stream down her cheeks as she watches the cab drive away. All thanks to Tristan, she just lost her sister...
Three days later...
A drop of tears slid down her cheek as she drops the letter on the table, and uses the flower vase to hold it. She's going to say her final goodbye to this house today, and she has no idea when she'll return here again. It doesn't hurt so much leaving the house, but it hurts that her sister is not here to even know her whereabouts. Since she can't get through to her yet, she thought leaving a letter for her would be a good idea. Who knows, maybe she may come back after she's gone.
After Tatiana left that day, she has tried every means to reach her, but her phone has been switched off, so she has been stranded. She has tried to look for her in clubs she usually visits, and she has also asked after her from a few of the guys she has seen her with before, but none of them has been able to tell her whereabouts.
Glancing back at the room for the last time, another drop of tears slid down the corner of her cheek. She finally closes the door behind her and strides out of the house.
The black jeep that was sent to pick her up is already waiting for her in front of her apartment. She glances back at the house for the last time, before she proceeds to the car, and hops in. The driver ignites the car and drives off afterward. It hurts that she's leaving the place that holds so many of her memories, but she's now more concerned about her sister's whereabouts, and where she's going now. She can't help thinking about what the future has in store for her. She has so many questions running through her mind at the moment...
