Chapter 1
It was midnight when I got a group video call invite.
The second I tapped to join, the screen hit me with a jaw-dropping scene.
Two figures were tangled up, going at it hot and heavy.
The leads? My boyfriend of two years, Ethan Foster, and the company's hot new rising starlet, Camilla Bennett.
I almost couldn't believe my eyes.
It took less than seven minutes for the two of them to wrap up their little tryst.
Camilla traced lazy circles on his chest. "Who's better, me or that Sophia Hart?"
"You, obviously, baby." Ethan teased her until she let out a giggly, flirty little huff.
"You know you love me, so why are you proposing to Sophia? What about me? I've been with you for three months now; no title, no nothing."
Ethan was planning to propose to me, and his mistress was pouting and demanding a formal title? Was he planning to have us all play house together once we got married?
It was laughable. Absurd, even.
Over the past two years, he'd climbed from a no-name D-list extra to the male lead of a hit drama, and none of that would have happened without me pulling strings and smoothing over every mess for him.
Just last month, he'd begged me to set up a meeting with an international director, swearing he'd love me forever. May strike him dead if he ever lied.
Who would have guessed he was already messing around with Camilla back then?
He'd just been using me the whole time, paving his way to the top off my hard work.
Camilla nuzzled him lazily. "Ethan, honey, we have so many romantic scenes in this drama, the paparazzi are gonna be all over us. Maybe we should lay low and stop meeting for a while?"
Ethan lit a post-hook-up cigarette. "What's to be scared of? Sophia's so easy to fool. Even if they snap photos, as long as I deny it, she'll never suspect a thing."
Camilla snickered, her eyes glinting with smugness. "That's true. I've never met anyone that naive. All I did was act a little pitiful in front of her, and she offered to take me on that variety show with her."
"If she's pulling for you, you'll definitely be the first out of this batch of newbies to hit it big."
Camilla practically preened at that, so full of herself she could have floated off the bed. "Her boyfriend got stolen right out from under her nose, and she's over here working her ass off to help me. What a total sucker."
"You little troublemaker, you're gonna piss her off so bad she'll explode." Ethan pinched her cheek playfully.
"Pfft, that's her own fault for being dumb. What's that got to do with me?" she cackled.
Watching that exchange, I was so furious my whole body shook. I quietly left the group video call, and right as I did, my phone started blaring.
It was Jasmine. She was the one who'd sent me that video link in the first place.
"I told you ages ago that Ethan was total trash, but you wouldn't listen! Now look at you... they're using you as a stepping stone to climb higher, making a complete fool out of you!" she snapped.
Compared to Jasmine's raving, words firing at me like bullets from a machine gun, I was already calming down.
"How many people know about this already?"
Jasmine said dozens of people on the production team already had the tea. She was dead sure she could ruin Ethan's reputation for good in five minutes flat.
"Tell them to keep quiet about this," I said calmly.
Jasmine went dead silent like a dud firework.
After a long, stunned beat, her sharp, disbelieving voice blared in my ear, "What the hell kind of love spell did he put on you? Are you still not over him?"
I raised an eyebrow. "They've been playing me for a fool this whole time. If all they get is kicked out of the entertainment industry, that's letting them off way too easy.
"I want them to turn on each other like scrappy stray dogs, and make total fools of themselves in front of everyone, prancing around like two ridiculous clowns. That's the only way this is fair."
