The unexpected

The school bell had always been my favorite sound after endless hours of hell-called classes. I still paid attention cause I did not have the choice. I didn't want to come home with bad results, oh my parents would be so disappointed, and I hate it when they're disappointed in me. I stood up after the long resounding sound from the bell. I hurriedly reach for my book as it was the last class. I made my way quickly in the hall going over to my locker and throwing everything carelessly in. I flung my backpack on my shoulder while walking out of school with tennis in my head. I stretched my hand multiple times imagining the tennis field. Then I felt a hand on my should and immediately froze. "It can't be him, it can't be him..." I bit my lower lip, with my eyes squeezed shut for a split second. I decided to man up and turn around with a masked face as the hand won't still leave my shoulder. My jaw dropped when I saw who it was and a huge desiring sigh of relief left my lips. "Hi O." Downey greeted. "Hey," I muttered with an eye roll as I turned around to continue my journey. "Hey?" He repeated after me but with a more questioning tone. "What's up with you? You seem least concentrated in class today." Downey said to me as he chased after me. I put a pause on my steps as I rotated to stare at his face. I wanted to let out my venom, though he won't do anything. It was Downey, like Downey my best friend. He knew how to take my shits. Well, Downey was mixed, his father was black while his mother was white. He was the most radical boy I've ever met. I called him the lawbreaker. He takes s**t from nobody except me. Downey had a cut that would always make me remember his face even in the dark. He had a long cut on his left eyebrow which he got from a gang fight which made him more of a tough Viking. I always thought it went too well with his extremely light skin, you would never know he was black except you were close enough. "It nothing Dow, I'm not much of a scholar today," I said before resuming my steps. "Nuh-uh. I won't take that as a response. I know you." He poked my chest and I paused once again before swatting his itching hand away. "Wow, you have a new hairstyle," I mentioned at his undercuts hairstyle with dreadlocks in the middle, I knew he would shift to deadlocks he had always found them cool. But unfortunately, his parents won't let him I guessed that was why he added undercuts. But it only made him super good. I was thinking of doing that to my hair too. Wow. "Oh, this?" He mentioned, "Yeah my pop did not want full dreadlocks so I had to get the undercuts. Do you like it?" He stroked his dreadlocks in the middle of his hair. "Yeah. But my mum would kill me and my dad, oh, I don't wanna talk about it." I said to him and he understood. Then I bit my lower lip and draw in a long breath. He furrowed his brows. "What's up with you, man?" He asked. "Not. Hing" I punctuated my words wrongly while resuming my journey. "I know you, that long breath and you sucking on your red lips." He emphasized. "Ah stop. I'm fine. If it degenerates I'd let you know, please don't bug me about it." I yelled while running to the exit with him right behind me. He caught me too quickly, after all, he played basketball. He immediately tackled me to the floor as soon as his arms ceased my body, I laughed as he tickled me. That boy was so childish. I heard a loud honk from where I was laying with Downey seating on my stomach. We both looked in the direction of the meaningless noise and it was like I thought. Mason. "I think your bros, really need a rush," Downey said while getting off me. I stood up with him pulling my hands so I was back to my feet, and I brushed the dust off my pants before squinting at the sun. "Bye," I said to him as he walked back to the school. His father was the vice-principal, I did understand why he had to spend extra hours in class before basketball. I felt sorry for him at times. He lived in a strict home where most of the stuff was prohibited. It was a black hole, blacks always tend to be a little too harsh with their kids. They looked toward their future and ban anything that could be a stick to their wheels. "How was class Owey?" Mason asked as soon as I got in the front seat. Elliot and Adrian were at the back. Elliot was on his tablet creating a new application I guessed, and Adrian was on his headphones. "Stop calling me that, Maimai." I teased with an annoyed look. "LMAO!" Adrain yelled as he burst out laughing. How did he get to hear with those headphones on? "Nobody mocks maimai, if you do you're better off walking," Mason said and we all laughed including Elliot. "Thanks for the name Owey." He ruffled my hair and I fought with his hand. Few minutes into the ride, Mason gasped in his thoughts, before turning around to glance at us for a second and going back to the road. "Hey, guys. You know Mum called." He started while keeping his gaze on the road. "So?" Adrian shrugged. "She said she wanted us all back in time, that is after practice no extra stay out, just go back home. She asked me to come pick you guys." He said. Adrian slumped in his seat. "Why me?" He screamed dramatically. "Cause you're the perfect puppet for fate to toy with," Elliot said with a smirk. "Ah shut up." Adrian rolled his eyes and nudged Elliot. "Why do we have to be early though?" I asked. Mum never really ask us to come back home immediately, us all. She rarely does that except is one of our birthdays. "Uh, you know Freddy has arrived. She wants us all to meet him all at once." Mason said. It felt like an invisible punch to my gut, it took away my breath and I got all ghost white as I slowly turned to stare at the window so they won't notice. "Oh ok," I muttered hiding my shock. I had wished for him to have an accident on the way, though it was not very kind of me, what else should you do when you know your castle is about to be crushed and you're about to be dethroned? Mason dropped Adrian off at baseball practice and had Elliot stayed with him, while he drove me at tennis practice and stayed behind so I could have a little support. After practice, we drove back to the baseball field. Elliot and Adrian were already out waiting, nobody wanted to piss mum off. She was kind and sweet but when she was upset with you. Only then would you know you had two mums, the sweet and the hell mum. "That was a true march." Adrian ran a hand on his dark brown hair as we all walked in. "But it was worth it." Elliot nodded as he shifted his glasses so they could fit well on his ocean green eyes-like background. "Oh, babies you're home." Mum rushed out of the kitchen. First, she kissed Mason on the cheek, then Elliot, then Adrian who tried to get away while screaming 'I'm sweaty' but failed miserably as she threw kisses over his face while we laughed making him blush profoundly. Then she walked over to me and peck me on the forehead while caressing my cheeks. Asher steps out from the kitchen with her little chair she looked lost in her fairy world, not until she saw us. She started jumping in excitement as Mason picked her up. He passed her around till she was in my arms. I leaned on her face and threw kisses on her neck while she giggled like crazy which made me want to do it again. "Come on time for showers then you all come back to the sitting room." Mum clapped her hands together and we all got up heading to our different rooms. I took Asher with me and made her climb the stairs before we went to the hallway. I got to my room and stood still right in front of the door with Asher's tiny hand in mine. I giraffe at the opposite door which was slightly opened. Curiosity was killing me, it was like warms in my bones, I needed to get it off. I took two steps closer and approached the door. How exactly does this Freddy boy look like? I questioned in thoughts. I continued with the steps till I was close enough to see through the c***k. All I saw was a tiny hand covered in red sleeves reaching for an old Teddy on the newly bought nightstand. I saw a long scar as a slice on the back of whoever owned the hand. Then I blinked, it was so slow I felt tired all of a sudden. I looked back and the hand and the teddy had disappeared. I gaped while blinking multiple times. "Edward!" I jumped as mum's voice came booming. I slowly turned around shamed face. Caught red-handed? Yeah. "How about we talk about this when you're done showering?" She asked while grabbing Asher. "Yes ma'am." I practically scrambled to my room and shut the door. Was it Freddy's hand I saw or was I dreaming while standing? Maybe I didn't see well. I could've sworn I never saw him withdrawing his hand and the teddy. Just whoosh. Asap. Vanished. Or maybe I didn't see quite well.
