The guest room

1589 Words
Owen I was laying on my stomach throwing my tennis ball on the wall and getting a bounce-back not really caring about my surrounding, I was so bored there was nothing I could do. Adrian and his buds were having the game room for themselves. Elliot and Mason were out, to I don't know where, while it was ten in the evening, didn't know what to do. Asher was asleep and aunt Diana is just too clingy to be around me. I couldn't let her close, I didn't wanna, not that night anyway. With a final bounce, the ball slipped off my grip and I was annoyed. I huffed loudly and rolled on my stomach deciding to forget about the stupid ball. It was so quiet and I hated it when it was quiet, not that I did not like being in silence, but when you're bored you just feel like everything and anything is annoying. I did get why people tend to fall into depression easily. All because of boredom, I guessed. I didn't make it longer on the bed before I started feeling an ant-like sensation on my feet. It crawled up to my tights and I was forced to leap out of comfort. I paced around for a while before walking to the window and resting my elbows on the window seat. I allowed my gaze to wander up above, all over the part of the night sky my eyes could capture. It was starless not like I really cared, I rarely looked at the sky, but that day I didn't see the moon. Like I had always expected not like I was a nature person, I'm more of technology than all. I didn't care about the beauty of nature or s**t. I just loved sci-fic. Passionate about sports nothing more life continues. There is nothing out there that couldn't be on my television. I always thought. The gate automatically pulled opened and a black jeep pulled in. A huge smile sprawl across my lips and I grinned. I quickly retreat from the window out the door to the hall and down the stairs excitement taking over me. They were back! "Honey no running in the house." I heard aunt Diana's voice from the beauty room. I just ignored it and kept running till I was standing on the front door which flew opened a few seconds later with Mum walking in. I quickly threw myself on her. "Hey, Mum!" I hugged her waist. "Aww. Baby." She pressed a long kiss on my forehead and it took me all not to getaway. Not that I didn't want it but it was embarrassing. Very. Embarrassing. "Hey, big boy." Dad poked my side and I giggled. "Hi, Dad. You guys missed me so much." I said not dropping the grin. "You too, but where are the boys?" Dad asked while stroking my blond hair. I rolled my eyes. "Adrian is in the game room with his dudes, while Elliot and Mason are still out," I said. "Oh hey, took you guys a while." A voice said from the stairs and we all stared at Aunt Diana who had a face mask on. "Where are they boys Dian, you told me all was fine but they ain't around," Dad said to her, he looked a little bit pissed yet exhausted. "Chill Grant, Elliot is at a friend for study while Mansion had late practice he would be back soon. Adrian just went to bed after saying bye to his friends, there is absolutely nothing to worry about." Aunt Diana explained casually. Mum exchanged a look with dad and he sighed. "Is Asher in bed yet?" She asked and aunt Dian nodded while looking at her reflection in the mirror. Mum disappeared upstairs and it was just Dad and I left cause aunt Diana had to return to take care of her face. "So? How was it over here?" Dad asked. I shrugged. "Boring. The boys are the worst, they didn't stop inviting friends over and I kinda hated it." I replied while watching him bring in more luggage than they went with. "Ah, I see, Elliott and Mansion too?" I rolled my eyes. "I said the boys, Dad," I said sarcastically. "Attitude Owen." He scolded lightly. "If Elliot was not at home he was stuck in a book on the net or in his games. He is such a technicoman." "Technicoman?" Dad raised a brow. "Yeah, is my word, isn't it so obvious? And Mansion had work, school, sports, and his girlfriend. He had less time for himself, I only saw him during lunch at school, while we live on the same goddamn roof." I punctuated with an eye roll. "You're begging for punishments, ain't you?" Dad said sternly and I got the message. I gulped. "Sorry, sir," I mumbled. "Mm," Dad grunted while heading to the stairs, I followed behind him. "How were your patients though? Did you find a solution to their illness? You're a psychologist right?" I asked. I knew I was been annoying but he was supposed to give me answers. I'm just curious. He stared down at me, his face trying to form an expression I couldn't read the cause of the exhaustion he wore. "Yeah, I guess. But there was this particular patient I couldn't help though. Not fully, and I'm determined to help him." He replied after all his drama. I thought. I looked ahead as we walked in silence. I had expected him to walk straight into his and mum's room but he did a turn for the guest room which was odd. I continued following till we were in the room, it was just next to mine though. He unlocked the door which had the keys already inserted and left dangling. I slipped in along with him and watch him observe the room thoughtfully. It was well arranged and clean but still empty, and scary. That room was the scariest in the house, it was on the wrong part of the house so the sunlight couldn't come in. "Dad?" I called when I notice he had a piece of luggage with him. "Hm?" He grunted in response as he walked to the closet. "Who is coming over? Jaden? Or Eli?" I knew my cousins loved coming over and each time dad would have one of the guest rooms ready for each one of them. He paused to look at me, his exhausted green eyes boring into my hazel ones sharply. "No. I think is time you go to bed, right?" I took a step back at his sudden turn down of the topic. It was not the first time though but when he does it, it meant secret. "Come on. I'll tuck you in." He said to me. "I'm twelve, dad, not two. I can go to bed alone." I retorted. "Mm." He ran a hand on his face. "Owen, I want you to know I love you all no matter what." "Yeah, I too," I added. He put up a weak smile. "Good boy." He ruffled my hair. "Now go to bed. Don't forget to give mum a kiss." I nodded while taking my leave. As I walked in the hall I debated on who the person must be. I knew for sure it was not one of my cousins coming over, if dad didn't want to tell me it must be something concerning him and Mum. Just then I came to a stop in front of mum's room. I knocked before going in. Mum was in her nightgown right next to Asher's crib. She was sound asleep while Mum was just holding unto her hand. "Hey, mum." I mouthed. She turned her head around and flashed a smile at me. "Come give mummy a kiss." She opened her arms wide and I hesitantly went into them. Wrapping my arms around her. "I love you, baby." She said. "Yeah I know, Dad just told me, and I too I love you," I added as she played with my hair. "Mum?" "Yeah?" "Uh, who is coming over?" I could feel her break the hug so she could fix me in the eyes. Her stare looked serious enough to keep me frozen. I knew that look all too well. "What did I tell you, Edward?" I heard dad's voice from the doorway and quickly got to my feet leaving the comfort of mum's bed. "I told you to steal a kiss and go to bed. Is eleven o'clock, Adrian is already getting ready for bed. You shouldn't be up this late you've got school tomorrow." Dad said sternly. "Yeah, sorry," I mumbled while heading to the door so I could walk past him but I felt his hands on my both arms and he knelt to my height. "We're just exhausted, honey, and I guess you must be too, tomorrow will be a long day, and we need sleep, you too." He poked my stomach and I shifted with a chuckle. "Good boy." He patted my hair and I finally left under his watch till I was in my room and the door was shut. I crawled in my bed and brought the cover to my chest while adjusting to the comfort. Just before the sleep kicked in, I thought of how the visitor could be like. I didn't love visitors. I hated surprises. I was not feeling it and I ended up asleep with a scowl plastered on my face.
