Chapter 5

Catalina's Pov I stood under the shower, letting the water cascade down my body, washing the remains of the previous night. What was I thinking sleeping with a stranger? I wasn't like that, but what made me lose control over my senses? I knew I said I wanted to forget everything that a**hole did to me, but not in getting together with a stranger. What if he had STD? Or he had an infection? “Argh, how can I be so careless?” I asked out loud before turning off the shower and stepping out. I wrapped my towel around my body and walked out to my bathroom. I stood in front of my mirror and sighed as I looked at my form. I took my lotion and was about to rub it on my skin when my doorbell rang. I waited for some seconds before shrugging it off and continuing with my lotion. The doorbell rang again, and I groaned. Who the hell is ringing my doorbell early in the morning? I stormed to the door and plugged it open. My mouth grew open as I stared at the person standing on my front porch. “Surprise,” Tina smiled, stretching her arms wide open to me. When I didn't react, her smile flattered, and she started dropping her arms, but I went into her arms and hugged her tight. “Ump. You missed me so much,” she laughed and I nodded. She pushed her bag inside and entered the house still with me embracing her. “Lina, are you alright?” She asked after the door shut behind us but I shook my head. The tears I had been holding together broke out and I cried in her arms. I could feel her hands patting my hair and back as I cried. When finally I was done and my cries reduced to sobs, she sat both of us down and held my hands in hers. “Sorry, I couldn't make it yesterday. My flight was delayed, and I saw the video of your wedding on the news,” she said, the last part slowly. “What?” I asked, bewildered. “Hey, calm down. I had a friend help me take it down. Luckily, it hadn't reached a lot of people. Now tell me everything I need to know.” I nodded and told her everything, from the hotel room to the wedding day but I made sure to exclude the part that I bought a house for him. So far, she knows I can't afford both a car and a house at the same time except when I take out a loan. “I can't believe you did all that for him. You even bought him a damn car” She exclaimed. “I knew there was something about him and I told you,” “Tina, please,” “Sorry, sorry.” She hugged me. “I hope you returned the car and collected your money. It must have been so horrible sleeping in this house all alone,” “Yes, I did. And Umm, about that. "I didn't sleep here last night,” I said, and she pulled away from me, looking at me closely. “I kind of spent the night at a club.” I peeked at her under my lids. “With a man,” “What the fv¢k Catalina?” She stood from the couch in disbelief, hovering over me. “You get dumped at the altar and the best thing you could think of was hooking up with a random man the same night?” As she screamed the word ‘dump’, I winced as the word stung me hard. “I didn't do it deliberately, okay? I was drunk and I wanted to forget everything and he offered to help me with that,” She looked at me and her eyes softened. She sat down back and took my hands in her hands, rubbing it softly. “I am sorry. I am just watching out for you. You know I don't like you being reckless. I am here now, everything is going to be fine,” I moved closer to her and rested my head on her shoulder as she rubbed my arm. Tina has been my best friend since middle school. She was among the richest kids in my school and for some reason, she didn't like rich kids who depend solely on their parents. She and I became best friends after a class project we had together and became inseparable. She worked shifts with me even though she didn't need to and also moved in with me when she could live in her father's mansion or in an expensive apartment. She was one of the most beautiful and smartest ladies I know. After college, she applied to her father's company and got the job. Even though, sometimes, she thinks she got the job because of her father, I think she is just too good for it. She has been one of my greatest supporters so far. And when she said everything was going to be fine, I trusted her. Everything was going to be fine. I hope it does soon. Just that nothing went fine after that. ******* The morning passed in a blur. Tina insisted I eat something, even though my stomach rebelled at the thought of food. I sat down on the kitchen counter, picking on my scrambled eggs while she moved around the kitchen like she owned the place. “We seriously need groceries,” she muttered, scanning the near-empty fridge. “There is wine, a jar of peanut butter, and a slice of cheese. Girl, what were you eating while I was gone? Were you trying to starve yourself emotionally and physically?” I gave her a weak smile. “I didn't know I was going to come back to this house after my wedding,” She shut the fridge and leaned on the counter. “Forget that jerk. You couldn't move into his lame apartment yet after all. I will take us shopping later. Right now, you need to tell me more about the mystery man.” I groaned, dropping my fork. “Do we have to?” “Yes! Catalina Leigh, you never do stuff like this. I need the full tea. Who was he? Did he leave a number?” “I don’t know his name,” I muttered, flushing. Tina gasped. “Wait. You seriously had a one-night stand with a nameless, faceless stranger?” “I remember his face,” I said defensively. “He was... tall, dark hair, intense eyes, commanding and— ugh! Strong. He carried me like I weighed nothing.” Her brows shot up. “Damn. Okay, I see why you folded.” I threw a napkin at her. “It is not funny.” “I am not laughing. I am just... processing it.” Her face sobered. “Did you use protection?” I nodded slowly. “Yes—” I stopped, and my eyes widened in horror. I forgot to use the after pill!
