Wedding

What Veronica said did not surprise Gavin anymore. He knows that they planned it and with just a few months to go; it was inevitable. They needed it to be done. He bobbed his head and answered Aya. “Sure. Let’s do it.” “Then help me draft this agreement first.” Veronica showed Gavin a note on her phone. She was very systematic. She knew what was needed to be done and how it was needed to be done. They spent the night agreeing on how to handle Veronica’s financial matters. The agreement was pretty much straight up. All her real estate properties will be sold via bidding and all the proceeds will be used to fund a scholarship foundation for those who do not have enough financial means to study. Her trusted team will run all her businesses and will be under Gavin’s strict supervision. Her liquid assets are all to be managed by Gavin as per her detailed plans. Not a single cent will be given to her parents. Even for her brother. She can't let them manage her money. Their greed for money is out of this world. She saw them ruined lives for the little money they got. What more if they get a chance to tap into her finances.  Though she set up an emergency fund for them which they could never use unless it was that an emergency. It is Gavin who would set it up for them so their family lawyers could never get to it when Veronica is gone and they will not know about it unless they came to the point of emergency as stipulated by Veronica. “You seemed to have thought about this one thoroughly. There are minimal changes from your original plan.” Gavin commented to Veronica as they finally finished the last details. This will be part of their pre-nuptial agreement. They will release a statement that they have one. For most people, it would look like a safeguard for Veronica’s money against Gavin. Ultimately, it will settle down her parents for thinking that Gavin is using her for money. However, in reality it is the other way around, it is to make sure that Gavin will be the one managing her finances. “You can say that. I mean this is basically this time is just a reaffirmation that I don’t have much time.” Veronica stretched her back after she signed the last contract. “By the way, Gavin. I am apologizing in advance. I ‘unintentionally’ told my secretary about our rushed wedding plans while we are here abroad. So you better be prepared for tomorrow’s ambush photos.” Veronica laughed. Gavin understands what she meant. The talkative secretary who ends up spreading the rumors about Veronica’s affairs is the only one she needs to get out the news that she wants. They did efficiently it and cost effectively. It is like having your own press release team without having to spend a dime. “If that’s the case, I should look unintentionally extra handsome tomorrow,” Gavin laughed with Veronica. “You always look effortlessly handsome, darling.” Veronica said in a serious tone. After that, an awkward silence followed. It was the first time any of them spoke flirtatiously like that after they agreed to keep everything platonic. Veronica noticed the discomfiture on Gavin’s expression. She laughed at him for being too caught up with her comment. “Hey, I was just joking now, but tomorrow the world is expecting us to look extra sweet.” Veronica warned Gavin about the show that they have to put up the next day. “I know, I’m sorry it was just a little too random from you.” He tried to explain himself. Veronica threw a pillow at his face as she laughed and stood up. “Whatever, pretty boy. Let’s get some sleep and slay tomorrow!” She stated as she walked towards her room. The next day, Gavin could not contain his nerves. He sure knows that this is just a show, but the legalities of everything that would follow are true. He is tasked to hold and manage billions of dollars for Veronica, a woman he did not even know a few months back. Nonetheless, he chose a sleek pair of gray suit and mocha brown inner. He fixed his hair and shaved his stubbles. He looked dashing without trying much. Veronica, on the other hand, did the same thing. She wore an elegant white dress with gray lace overlay with precious stones. They wanted to look simple the billionaire type of simple look way. Instead of going for a wedding, they looked like they were attending a chic party where they would meet other billionaires. After the wedding, they plan on hopping straight on a private plane for their pretend honeymoon on the beautiful island of Doracay. Gavin waited for Veronica in the living room. He was nervous but does not intend to show it to Veronica. For all he knows, Gavin might have a much more troublesome time than him. When she stepped out of her room, Gavin was stunned. Veronica, who always dressed casually, is now dressed up for the occasion, like how she would if it were her real wedding. “You look gorgeous, darling.” Gavin blurted out in the open, like he was a proud husband to be. Veronica blushed at hearing Gavin’s appreciation. For her, this is the only wedding they will see her in, although the man she is marrying does not feel for her. It does not matter much because, deep in her heart, she does. This is the realest wedding for her; she just wishes that Gavin will look the part. “You don’t look bad yourself, darling.” Veronica replied to Gavin. She extended her hand as she invited her to go on their way. He accepted it and held her hand like a man in love would hold his dear bride. Gavin looked at Veronica with an authentic pride and love in his eyes. Although it does not translate to that kind of love that she has for him. It was more than enough to convince the surrounding people. They went inside the civil registry and made through the process in a breeze. Like clockwork, the moment they stepped outside the office, paparazzi ambushed them with photos. The two acted surprised, but like how Veronica always is, she makes that reaction on camera like she doesn’t care at all. Gavin protected Veronica by shielding her with his arm until they reached the car that would bring them to the private plane. Which, coincidentally also was known by the paparazzi. The two did go up the plane without saying a word. Not confirming or denying anything. Veronica already spoke to her lawyer to release the statement on their behalf. The trip to their honeymoon spot will be a wonderful break for her not to see how the news will break. *** Sofia was busy fixing her things. She finally decided to continue her formal studies so she can take over their business like how her parents wanted. Aya stood up to get a glass of water when she heard the breaking news on the television. “Press release from Veronica Wolfe’s legal team. ‘It is true that our client is Ms. Veronica Wolfe is now married with billionaire, business mogul Mr. Gavin Knight. For those asking, yes they did forward us their pre-nuptial agreement and we are not at liberty to discuss the details as requested by our clients.” Aya’s heart was shredded into pieces as every word dropped to her like a bomb. She clenched her fist, not in anger but in the unbelievable pain she was feeling. Gavin destroyed her. The person she loved and trusted the most is the one who broke her into pieces.
