Gavin messed Veronica’s hair as he laughed. “Thank you for reminding me.” He answered her serious request with a joke.
“I’m serious. I mean we almost kissed the other night. I don’t want that to happen again.” Veronica reiterated. She blushed after she said those words. Gavin knows Veronica is just covering up her feelings for him.
“Hey, don’t be too arrogant. You wanted that kiss too.” He again joked at her. Gavin led Veronica to rest her head on his lap.
“Yeah, I did.” Veronica sat up and looked at Gavin straight in the eyes. “In fact, I still do. But it doesn’t mean it is right.” She blurted it out in the open; she decided not to be that pathetic little liar anymore and just be honest with herself.
Gavin appreciated her honesty. He figured it was time for him to be honest, too. “You are single, and apparently I am single, too. Do you think it is still wrong for us to have feelings for each other?” He tried to argue with reason.
Veronica was caught up with her explanation because she did not expect Gavin to just admit that he was done with Aya. “You might be single now, but it doesn’t mean you don’t love her anymore.” She was able to find the right words to make their affair something not worth it. She knows that infusing details about her health would just infuriate Gavin.
Gavin took a deep sigh, “You are right. I am sorry.” His voice was low and his tone is sincere. “I must admit that, those times we’ve been together. I started liking you.” Gavin chuckled. “It is my fault. I might have confused my feelings for you about something romantic. I mean, I care for you… A lot.” Gavin further explained.
Veronica started to understand where Gavin was coming from. The only difference for them is that her feelings for him, is indeed romantic. “You can’t love two women at once. Even if you have a big heart, only one can fit in there comfortably. I know you still love Sofia, and I won’t compete with that little space left in there.” She poked at Gavin’s chest.
They both laughed as they were now on the same page. Gavin caught Veronica’s hand and kissed it. “I know. Please allow me to love you like my family. I will take care of you as long as I can. I will keep you close as long as I need.” Gavin announced it to Veronica.
“Your family must be lucky!” Veronica laughed at Gavin’s statement without realizing she hit a sensitive spot.
“I don’t have one. So as long as I can make you my family, I will let you feel how it is to become my family.” He answered, as his voice cracked, showing a bit of emotion.
“Sorry, I’m a fool not to know about this.” Veronica apologized sincerely as the emotion Gavin showed just now is not something she could just neglect. He wants her to be his family, something he did not have. “I’d love to be your family.” She added.
“It’s okay. There is nothing much about it than me being an orphan.” Gavin forced a smile. “And yes, you are my family from now on.” Those words were more than enough for Veronica.
Veronica was glad that they closed that confusion stage already. She does not welcome the scenario of leaving Gavin behind if she let him fall for her. As selfish as it may seem, she would just allow herself to love and adore him secretly.
She also thought that it was time for her to come clean about her relationship with Sofia. Veronica took a deep breath before she spoke. Gavin was instantly alerted that Veronica was about to say something serious. He sat up properly to hear her out. “I have something to tell you.” She started.
Gavin bobbed his head. He knew this was coming, and he tried to prepare himself for whatever Veronica was about to say. “Go ahead.” He replied to Veronica.
“So, I told you before that I know Sofia. But I did not tell you everything.” She nervously played with her phone as she tried to explain it to Gavin. Gavin nodded to her, encouraging her to continue. “Well, she my brother’s ex girlfriend.” She said and waited for Gavin’s reaction.
“Hmm, really? So your brother is Sofia’s first boyfriend?” Gavin wanted confirmation. He knows this first relationship was the one related to the s*x scandal that blew up Sofia’s reputation.
“Well, our families. I’ve told you before; we are merely pawns for their business deals.” Veronica explained, even if it sounded terrible for outsiders. “Our families set up for their marriage, which also signaled the marriage of our companies. Well, at first the two were going along just fine, but when the word marriage came in, Sofia just went berserk.” Veronica chuckled, realizing she did the exact same thing.
“She started going out getting drunk and doing some silly things just to piss off both parties. Of course, my brother did not like how Sofia acted out back then, but he did not have much choice I guess. Most especially when that video started going viral.” Veronica stopped checking if Gavin was still following the story.
“So, the arranged marriage did not push thru because of that video?” Gavin asked, and he was getting the answer to the question that bothered him all this time.
Veronica nodded. “Pretty much, yes, it was the reason. My parents pulled out thinking the marriage of the companies would do more damage than profit. After that, Sofia left Victoria for Hudson to start a new life because they bullied here her.” Sympathy resounded in Veronica’s voice.
“Your brother, did he love Sofia?” Gavin asked Veronica. He wanted to make sure the chances of them getting back were slim. If Gavin's predictions were right, Sofia would make him pay for the pain he caused her. She will no longer backdown because the Sofia he loved is not a pushover anymore.
"He did. You can imagine how that video took him over to the edge. I mean, based on what he told me back then, they were not that intimate because Sofia did not want to rush things... and a few months later her face and her thing was all over the internet." Veronica sighed heavily. "That was also the start of my brother's change. He turned into a monster because he could not bear the constant mocking he received."
Gavin finally understood Aya's situation. "Aya is innocent. She chose the scandal over marrying your brother. It only means she does not love him." He said with confidence.
