Chapter 19 Suspected Grandfather
"I'm in no hurry..."
Max turned to see the glare on Dan's face, and immediately changed his words.
"Well, I'll leave right away."
Although he said he would leave right away, he stood up and whispered to Roslyn.
"It's a deal, we'll meet in Worcester, hope you don't forget." He then hurried out of the room.
After breakfast, Dan took Roslyn to the airport and saw her to her plane. Only then did he breathe a sigh of relief as he walked to the international boarding gate to check in. Caxton was still waiting for him in country T.
Roslyn returned to Worcester, and it was boring to go home alone, so she went back to her mother's house for her tender pork ribs.
"Why did you come back just after you left?" Her mother was surprised to see her back so soon.
She still felt cold shivers down her spine as she thought of what had happened the previous night... No, she was very scared!
"The snakes in his hometown can get into the room. I was so scared that I didn't sleep all night and couldn't dare stay there a minute longer."
She had the worst phobia of snakes. She would get goose bumps when she saw pictures, let alone seeing real snakes.
Her mother felt sorry for her and hurriedly hugged arms, trying to console her.
After comforting her for some time, her mother touched her hair and scolded her.
"Child, you are an adult and already married, but you still act like a little girl," she paused to get her attention before continuing.
"If you made up your mind to go, you should have stayed with your husband in his hometown for a few more days. If you only stay for one night and come back, his relatives in his hometown will not only laugh at you, but they will also laugh at him..."
After another long pause, she suddenly thought of something and asked her about Dan's grandfather.
"Has your grandfather gone back to his hometown?"
"No... I think." Something cropped up in her mind, but she did not voice it.
"You are really a child. If Dan hadn't invited you, you wouldn't have thought of it. You have been married for almost a month. Except for the last time you met his grandfather, you haven't visited the old man yet, right?"
"It's not that I don't want to go, but Dan said that grandpa is used to being alone. He doesn't like living with young people, and he doesn't like being disturbed."
Her mother agreed with not living together, but not living together and not even going to see him were two different concepts.
"You should go visit the old man. It's not easy for the old man to have raised his grandson alone."
Roslyn finally thought her mother was right and decided to visit the old man that very day.
She went to her w******p page and texted Dan for grandpa's address, stating that she wanted to pay the old man a visit.
Dan critically analysed her text. She had just ambushed him about visiting his home only to find the whole village in a mess. Now she wants grandpa's address?
He was definitely caught in a cacophony of lies. He sternly admonished himself for telling a lie because he was now being compelled to use countless lies to cover it up.
When Dan took time to reply for a long time, she called him.
"Grandpa is not in Worcester," he simply responded.
"Did grandpa go back to his hometown in New England? Why didn't I see him yesterday?"
"Yes, grandpa also came back. He has an old friend in the neighboring village. He stayed at his old friend's house yesterday, so you didn't see him."
"Oh, so, okay, take good care of grandpa for me."
"Okay."
She took dinner at her mother's house and spent the night there, enjoying beautiful sleep. She was woken up by her cousin's call in the morning.
Diana Kend asked her out for dinner. The two had not seen each other for a long time.
"You're not busy anymore, Director Diana?" Roslyn teased.
Diana had been promoted to director half a month ago, and with that came even busier work, almost like a spinning top.
"Busy, but no matter how busy I am, I have to meet you. Otherwise, I'm afraid you'll forget me altogether.
" Not really. I'm the one who was beginning to think you forgot all about me."
The two met at a newly opened high-end western restaurant, and they were enthusiastic to meet.
After chatting and laughing for a while, they ordered their dishes.
That day was Diana's treat.
"I have to order something expensive to rip you off, so you can bleed," Roslyn teased
Diana waved her hand generously. "It is sister's treat, you can order whatever you want."
Having said that, Roslyn did not order anything too expensive, just steak and pasta, plus a glass of juice.
Diana glanced at her, then took the menu and ordered a few dishes, and also ordered a bottle of red wine. Roslyn exclaimed.
"You're not going to marry? The red wine here is very expensive."
She just looked at the price of the wine. Every bottle of wine was exorbitantly high. Although her cousin got a promotion and a raise, she still felt distressed that she would spend such amount on a drink.
"Look, married people are different. When did you become so good at worrying about saving?"
"I can't help it. My husband earns little and we have to save money to buy a house. You can't be frugal if you don't budget carefully."
"Don't you have a house at home?" Diana was puzzled.
At the beginning, Diana knew that her aunt and uncle prepared a generous dowry for her cousin, including a car, a house and savings! The amount involved could be enough for the couple to live for eight lifetimes even if they did nothing but just laying down, eating and drinking well.
"Yes, my parents prepared a house for me, but he doesn't want to live there. He insists on buying a house through his own efforts. We are now living in his friend's house," Roslyn explained after taking a long sigh.
"That's good. A man who thinks this way is a real man. He doesn't want your family's money. There are not many men with such a sense of responsibility..." Diana commended.
She suddenly remembered that Roslyn had called her a few days ago, and they hung up before they finished talking. Later, after several operations, she was almost exhausted and forgot about it.
"By the way, what did you ask me when you called last time?"
"It's okay."
Roslyn had wanted to ask her cousin that time if Dan was gay, but now that she was sure that he was not, the question had obviously become obsolete.
Halfway through the meal, Roslyn went to the bathroom and was stunned to see a familiar figure.
An old man who was surrounded by people walked out of the restaurant. He was very stylish, with bodyguards leading the way, assistants following on both sides, and several people who looked like company executives following behind him respectfully.
The old man looked very much like Dan's grandfather, but the distance was a bit far, so she was not sure.
She wanted to chase after him to see more of him, but the group walked very fast. The old man walked out of the restaurant, got into a Bentley at the door, and was escorted by a large convoy.
She returned to her seat with a frown on her face, puzzled.
"What's wrong? You were fine before going to the bathroom." Diana observed.
She told her about what she had just seen... Dan's grandfather, but Diana was not surprised.
"There are many people who look alike. Rosy, you must have recognized the wrong person. Old people look almost the same. If Dan had such a rich grandfather, would he have borrowed the house?"
She felt that what her cousin had said made sense. The lights in the western restaurant were dim, so it was not surprising that she would have mistaken someone else.
But still there was that lingering thought that it was actually the old man...
Dan's grandfather was supposedly in New England, how could he appear in Worcester? The answer to that question still troubled her despite Diana's explanation.
