Chapter 15 Test and Trial
Roslyn did not discriminate against homosexuals, but she could not accept being deceived.
All she craved for was to find someone who truly loved her to spend her life together. Two people in one house, three meals a day, four seasons and above all, living a simple and pure life. She could not accept a marriage of convenience.
Out of the blue, she remembered their first night when he had burst into her room in the pub, very wild and intimidatingly seductive... She felt the flipping of butterflies in her tummy. Why, it had not seemed like he was not interested in women.
This flashback did not only make her even more confused, but it also served to dawn on her that she seemed to have fallen in love with him.
She recalled that she had been very angry that Kevin had cheated on her, and her first reaction was revenge. Well, she had no regrets.
But what if Dan actually liked men? She felt a cold shiver down her spine that triggered so much suffocating heartache that she could not breathe for a moment.
She remembered that it was her cousin who found and connected her with Dan that night. Without any hesitation, she dialed Diana's number.
Diana was about to get into the operating table when she received a call from her cousin.
"Cousin, do you remember the person you hooked up with me in the bar that day?"
"Remember you said no one was allowed to mention this matter again in the future? Why the hell are you mentioning it again?" Diana was surprised.
"Well, I just heard that his preference is men and not women..." Her voice trailed off softly.
"Yes, you are right. Bob Fox, the owner of the Sunstar Bar, is his rumoured boyfriend..." She was interrupted by someone calling her in the background.
"Doctor Diana, the patient is bleeding heavily, please come quickly!"
"I am coming," she answered before speaking into the phone. "Roslyn, I will tell you after I get off the operating table. Sorry, I gotta go."
She hung up hurriedly and ran to the operating room.
Roslyn's heart felt like it fell into an ice hole, and she felt cold. She decided to go home and ask Dan, and the two of them would talk it out. If it turned out to true, the two of them would part ways in peace.
When Dan returned home that evening, he was surprised to find a set table of delicious food in the dining room, and a bottle of red wine. Two wine glasses were already brimming with the frothy drink.
"What day is today? Why are you including the wine?" He posed, smiling.
He asked the last question because he knew that Roslyn's alcohol tolerance was very poor, and her face would turn red after drinking only a little amount.
He went back to the room to change into home clothes only to come out to find that his wife's happy face had suddenly turned gloomy and serious.
"I would like to have a serious and honest talk with you," she started.
From her serious tone, Dan curiously decided to become more attentive. "Okay."
She picked the two glasses of wine, handed one to him, raised hers and asked the one million-dollar question without any preamble.
"Are you gay?"
Dan frowned slightly and responded in a deep, firm voice.
"You already know the answer to that."
He was aware of the rumors circulating that the president of the Panter family was gay. Now judging from the questioning, he naturally thought that his identity as the president of the Panter family had also been exposed.
He had concealed it at first as he had not told her the truth, knowing that it would ultimately be exposed. Apparently, it now seemed impossible to hide it forever.
Now he was ready to confess that he was not gay... Surprisingly, before he could even open his mouth, he saw Roslyn pick up the wine glass and pour its contents into her mouth.
"No..!"
It was too late.
She drank a full glass of red wine, and soon two red clouds floated on her little face, getting redder and redder.
She stood up shakily, two lines of tears flowing down her cheeks, but there was a smile on the corner of her mouth.
"Dan, what I hate most is being deceived, and you lied to me too..."
She slid down unsteadily. Dan hastily reached out to help her, but she pushed him out reflexively, incidentally throwing him to the ground. She fell into his arms. With her soft, enchanting self in his arms, he did not have any immediate urgency to move.
Soon, the little woman on him fell asleep. She had thrown herself on him, with her face resting on his chest while her limbs tightly shackled him like an octopus. Though she appeared to have fallen asleep, he could not think of getting up yet. He did not know whether to laugh or cry.
Lying on the cold floor would lead to catching a cold, but with the excessive adrenaline coursing through his body, it was get hotter and hotter. There was some unknown fire running around in his heart, and he was eager to find a place to vent.
Well, he was a normal man with all the primal desires for the opposite gender, just for how long would he be able to withstand such a test?
Meanwhile, the supposedly drunk woman was not only oblivious to his predicament, but she also repeatedly challenged his bottom line. She lay on him, drawing circles on his chest with her fingers.
"Dan, you are a bastard... I like you, but you like men..." She complained.
"I don't like men, those are all rumors," he firmly denied the allegations.
"Don't like... Why do you always move away whenever you make or receive calls? Sometimes from the privacy of your room? And you still have the audacity to lie to me? Dan, you are a big liar, I will never believe you again!" She ranted.
Faced with such accusations, Dan really had nothing to say. It was a fact that he had not told her the reason behind his mysterious self.
She continued chattering, while her hands and feet were doing their best to test his emotions by magically caressing his body, albeit accidentally.
Unable to control his mounting desire, he let go his restraints, hugged and kissed her spontaneously.
The romantic and lingering french kiss immediately sobered Roslyn up. She hurriedly got up from the ground, hurried back to her room and slammed the door shut.
Dan looked at the door of his wife's room and smiled silently, very happily.
He took a sip of the wine that he had almost forgotten. It tasted mellow and good. He also picked up Roslyn's glass again and poured the few drops of wine left at the bottom of the glass into his mouth. Oops! It was sweet and the taste of wine was very light.
He was surprised to discover that it was clearly a small amount of red wine mixed with a solution of brown sugar.
He surmised that she had used alcohol as an excuse. Being drunk was fake. Her real intention was testing his s****l orientation!
While his mouth could lie, his body's reactions were fatally honest. His body had unequivocally confessed to her what he had failed to confess verbally, and what others had clothed in blankets of mystery.
Thinking about her astuteness, Dan felt proud of her and became satisfied that he did not find the wrong person. She was brave and resourceful. Such a woman would not suffer any loss and would compete favourably when she joined the Panter family.
Having gotten into her room, Roslyn leaned against the door, her hand covering her heart as it pounded against her chest. Her face reddened with anger to the point of almost bleeding. She was now sure that Kevin was talking nonsense.
She concluded that whether Dan was gay or not, what he said about himself did not matter. What mattered was what she had discovered while she had lain on him!
It was midnight and she felt the pangs of hunger as she had not eaten anything due to the stress that Kevin's assertion had subjected her to. She had ended up taking only a cup of brown sugar water.
She stealthily opened the door and prepared to go to the kitchen to eat something.
Dan was always in the living room past midnight, and he made a lot of noise no matter what he did, especially when he was on the phone. The people he called were all men, but they were all talking about work, nothing shameful. She now realized that he did this on purpose, for her to see and hear.
She still pretended to be drunk as she walked past him, appearing to be even more embarrassed to go to the kitchen at such ungodly hour.
In the kitchen, she was like a kitten stealing food, quickly eating two steamed dumplings. Then she grabbed a chicken leg and gnawed it, and to her great surprise, she found it steaming hot!
How could it still be hot at that hour?
There was only one explanation. Dan knew that she would come out to eat and heated the food for her. How and why did he anticipate it? Had he suspected her ploy?
She wiped her mouth hurriedly and tiptoed to her room.
Just as she walked past Dan's room, the door opened!
He had just taken a shower, with only a bath towel wrapped around his waist. She could not help appraising his wheat-colored complexion, tight eight-pack abs, broad shoulders over narrow hips, and a perfect figure.
She blushed, lowered her head to avoid staring at him, and tried to quickly slip into her room. However, he grabbed her arm before she made it.
