Chapter 14 Identity Exposed
After a sumptuous meal, Dan and Roslyn walked out of the restaurant holding hands. Kevin approached them.
"Roslyn, may I talk with you for a moment," he requested.
"I have nothing to say to you, get out of the way!" she refrained, her face flushing with anger.
Ignoring the biting coldness in her response, he calmly persisted.
"Roslyn, I was wrong, I really know I was wrong, can you give me a chance? Let's start over, I swear I will never do anything to let you down again," he beseeched.
"Do respect yourself, our engagement was cancelled and I have a husband now. Don't you try bothering me!" She glaringly reminded him with disgust.
"Him?" He squinted his eyes and contemptuously looked at Dan. He then burst out laughing, sardonically.
"You know as much as I do that he is a nobody. He's not as good as me. I have been a company executive after all, and he can only eat gigolos with a clear conscience!
"Roslyn, you are too naive," he continued when she did not say anything. "Why do you think he married you? He wants to wait until your parents die so that he can have your family business."
"These are only Kevin's own evil thoughts. . He is such a pugnacious i***t that he thinks that all men in the world are the same as him!" She ruminated and almost screamed at him.
"Kevin, shut up. If you slander my husband again, I will tear your mouth off!" She warned him, scornfully. She then proceeded to hold Dan in her arms like a hen protecting her chicks.
Dan felt oddly ingratiated and exhilarated because it was the first time he felt protected by a woman since he was a child. He basked in the feeling for all it was worth.
Kevin continued to pester her shamelessly.
"Roslyn, I really know I was wrong. Please, find it in your heart to forgive me."
Since he could not succeed in getting a share of her family's property, he was prepared to settle settle for the next best thing, her companionship.
"If you really like him, I don't mind. I am a generous man and I don't mind sharing you with others. You can have both of us at the same time. I don't mind that he is a poor boy and I won't say anything." He knew he was being shameless, but he was ready to do anything to get her.
"I mind."
"I mind."
Roslyn and Dan chorused in unison.
Roslyn's face turned pale with anger. How could she be so blind that she had actually been deceived by someone like Kevin? It was incredibly unconscionable!
Dan narrowed his eyes into slits. Last time, he was soft-hearted and only advised on Kevin's sacking from his previous employment, just enough to make him infamous and unable to get along in Boston. He did not expect that this cantankerous ass would still be up and about, let alone thinking about hooking up with Roslyn.
It was even worse that he even entertained the thought of sharing her with him. An overstretch of his imagination. No, not even in dreams!
Dan suddenly pulled Roslyn behind him. Men's affairs should be solved by men. He could not let women take the lead.
"Poor guy, you still want to hit me?" Kevin asked, reading his mind as he turned towards him.
He pointed at the surveillance camera above his head triumphantly.
"If you dare to do it, I will send you to prison. Now it is a society ruled by law, and you will not be allowed to do whatever you want..."
Dan's mouth corners slightly raised, revealing an unfathomable smile, and then punched. He was so fast that Kevin did not have time to react before he was knocked to the ground and fainted.
"What's wrong with him? What happened to him?" Roslyn fearfully asked.
"Don't worry about him, let's go."
Dan took his wife's hand and tried to leave, but she shook his hand away, ran over and carefully put her finger under Kevin's nose to feel his breathing. She breathed a sigh of relief when she realized that he was breathing.
But she still did not plan on leaving immediately. She turnedto her husband, and asked him to dial 120 and ask for an ambulance to take him to the hospital.
She was afraid that if Kevin died, her husband would be implicated and not really worried about Kevin's life or death. However, Dan misunderstood her.
"Are you worried about him?" His sword eyebrows were tightly knitted. He was jealous, and his emotional turmoil was very clear. She could feel it.
"No!" She immediately explained her thinking. "You beat him up, and there are surveillance cameras. If he dies or something happens, you will go to jail... What should I do then? I want you to be safe and staying with me!"
"Don't worry, I trust what I do. He just fainted, he won't die, and he will wake up soon."
He was right. As soon as the two left, Kevin woke up.
He got up from the ground, patted the dust on his body, and angrily wanted to call the police to arrest Dan. However, he sadly realized that there was no law against beating people in public.
Just in time, the hotel manager, who had watched the heated exchange from afar, came over and slapped him in anger.
"Are you out of your mind. You dare to offend customers? Do you even have a clue who he is?"
"I don't care! All I know is that he stole my wife and is my rival in love."
The manager looked at him with contempt.
"Just look at you, are you worthy of being his rival in love? He is the head of the Panter family. He punched you to safe you face. If he really wanted to crush you to death, he wouldn't even have to move a finger."
The lobby manager had met Dan Panter not long ago. It was at a high-end banquet. He was a waiter in the hotel at that time and had seen Dan who was the center of attention at the time.
“Really? Maybe you have mistaken him.”
“Even if I could mistake my own father, I would never mistake him!"
The manager then went ahead to fire Kevin on the spot and ordered him to clear out of the premises after warning him that it was vainglorious and desperate to compete with Dan for a woman.
"If you have no conscience to think about the repercussions to yourself, don't involve others!"
Kevin's head started buzzing, not because of the beating, but due to information just revealed about the identity of Dan.
The man who married Roslyn in a flash was the head of the Panter family? Disbelief was written all over his face as he fell into a reverie.
Legend has it that the head of the Panter family is elusive, but there are many other legends about him. A once-in-a-century business genius, handsome and rich, a math genius, a black belt in Taekwondo, proficient in many foreign languages, a negotiation expert, a diamond bachelor... What is more widely circulated is that Dan Panter prefers men to women, romantically speaking!
Thinking about the last part made him more ecstatic as it armed with better weapons to fight against Dan for Roslyn's love.
Having just been dismissed from his job, he decided follow Roslyn to her work station at school.
"Teacher Roslyn, someone is looking for you outside." The receptionist informed Roslyn a few minutes later.
She thought it was a parent of a student, but when she went out, she visibly agitated when she found out that it was Kevin.
"Why are you here again? Get out!" She fumed.
"Your husband is hiding a secret from you, you must not know," Kevin approached undeterred, wearing a laconic smile.
"Stop talking nonsense here. So what if he is? I don't believe a word you say."
"You and your husband haven't slept together yet, have you? He is not interested in women, only men. His purpose of marrying you is not pure. He wants to have a marriage of convenience with you and use you as a cover. Don't be stupid and sacrifice your life..."
"Get lost!"
She asked the security guard to drive him away.
But she was uneasy all afternoon, and Kevin's words kept lingering in her ears.
She did not believe what Kevin said, but since they got married, the two of them had been respectful to each other, each keeping their own room and not interfering with each other.
Dan would help her share the housework and give her his salary card for safekeeping... but he would often avoid her and make phone calls in a mysterious way!
She overheard a few times, the content was unclear, but the other party's voice was always male.
She originally thought that her husband would not talk to a woman behind her back, but Kevin's words that afternoon made her feel uneasy and suspicious.
Does he really like men and not women? She determined to find out as she called it a day from work and anxiously headed home.
