Chapter 13: Enemies on a Narrow Road The Brandon business mainly dealt in food seasonings. Because the production was well controlled, sales had always been good. It was no exaggeration to say that even if a deaf-mute person went out with Brandon's sign, there will not be no sales for half a month. There was only one reason why Dan's performance was dismal. Pure laziness, perhaps? Many could vouch that he did not go out at all, and did not even contact customers. Subsequently, it was normal that he had no performance. "I will definitely meet the target by the end of the month, you will see then," Dan responded, slightly smiling, after what seemed to be an eternity "What if you can't do it?" "If I can't do it, you can fire me." Dan walked out of the general manager's office and left early again to pick up his wife from work. That day he arrived at Roslyn's school a little late. She had been standing at the door waiting for him. When she finally saw his car driving in she immediately started walking towards him, wearing a broad smile. She got in the car only for him hand her her favorite peach oolong tea, less ice, full sugar. "Thank you," she appraciated, hugging him. She held it with both hands and drank it in small sips, secretly looking at Dan while drinking. "You have something to say to me." It was an affirmative statement, not a question. "Well." She paused to organize her words before continuing. "If you are not happy with working in my father's company, then don't do it. It's the same if you changed jobs." Dan turned to look at her with some curiosity. He thought she would blame him, but she was considerate and caring for him, which made him feel warm. "I'm not unhappy. It's good." "I'm off this Saturday. I also want to experience the work of a salesperson. Let's go to work together. Can you take me to experience it?" She spoke very tactfully. She was saving face for her husband and trying to take care of his self-esteem as a man. However, Dan already knew what she was worried about. "You are worried that I might not complete the task by the end of the month. Don't worry, this performance can be completed tomorrow. You can go to work at ease. I will support the family. Just trust me." She thought her husband was bragging, so she just smiled and did not take it to heart. But the next day. Boom! Dan really completed a big contract with a share of more than 500 million dollars. Brandon's seasoning became a long-term supplier of the Bell-Mart chain supermarket, a national chain with amazing brand effect and inestimable traffic. Well, it was a blockbuster success. This order caused a sensation in the entire sales department. The colleagues who used to be cold and indifferent changed their attitude 180 degrees and immediately became very enthusiastic towards him. Some served him tea, some asked him for advice, and some gave him gifts to worship him as their teacher... Suffice it to say that he instantly became a hot figure. There was a reason for his colleagues' enthusiasm. Being able to win the Bell-Mart order showed that Dan was extremely capable and had a promising future. Most of them were therefore eager to identify with him. Although it is not very moral to flatter the powerful and trample on the weak, this is the reality of society. Dan was unwilling to pretend to be intimate with these hypocritical people. He even disdained to do superficial work. Although he sat in the middle of the crowd with a cold face, he could not answer a single question out of ten, which made everyone very embarrassed. "Dan!" Roslyn appeared suddenly. Finally, a smile appeared on Dan's face. "Why are you here?" He sounded rhetorical. "Today is a half-day class. I came to see you in the afternoon because I'm on a break. Well, I heard that you got a big order. Congratulations!" Everyone knew Roslyn as the boss's daughter. When she came to the company to find Dan, everyone suddenly realized that he was the boss's son-in-law. No wonder he did nothing every day and just lazily sat on his desk. With such a background, let alone sitting, it would be fine even if he lay down in the company every day. This discovery made people more determined to cling to him. However, they did not have the chance that day because Dan and Roslyn went out after a short while. Roslyn said that she would treat Dan to dinner to celebrate the success. As both of shared a common favorite dish, boiled fish, Roslyn led the way to a new restaurant that had opened near her home. They ran into Kevin at the entrance of the restaurant. Surprisingly, he was wearing security uniforms, standing at the entrance of the hotel, parking cars for customers. He had a good job as a middle-level manager in a renowned company, but he had been fired the day after the wedding. The reason given by the company was simple...the company could not hire people with bad character. He had submitted many resumes in the past few days, but all of them were ignored. Previously, he did not have to struggle for anything because Roslyn's family helped him share the burden, but now that he had lost her, Kevin was worried about everything. After hitting a wall in finding a job, Lilly, who had claimed to love him, left quietly the previous week, taking away all his savings. It dawned on him that if he could not find a job again, even eating would become a problem. He had no choice but to work as a parking boy at the entrance of the hotel! Roslyn lost appetite on seeing him and turned to her husband. "Let's go, we won't eat here anymore." " Why, do you still care about him?" Dan asked. "No. I just don't want to see him, not that I care about him. Lest you get worried, let me say it. Since I married you, I will live with you wholeheartedly and won't have any other ideas. Get it, Mr. Jealousy?" She explained, fondly caressing his broad shoulders. "Since there is no care, let's go over and just treat him as a stranger." "Okay." Dan drove the car into the parking. When Kevin saw that there were two of them in the car, his face turned pale. He immediately turned his head and pretended not to see it. After parking the car, the two got out. Roslyn took Dan's arm and walked past Kevin into the restaurant. They sat by the window. When their orders were served, Dan picked up a piece of boiled fish and held it to Roslyn's mouth. She gracefully fed on it. l The spicy and fresh smell stimulated her taste buds at the same time. She swallowed the fish with satisfaction, and then picked up a piece of fish with chopsticks and sent it into her husband's mouth. The sweet interaction between the couple was seen by Kevin who was standing outside by the window. A trace of jealousy flashed in his eyes. If it weren't for that man, he would not have fallen to this point. Now he could be the one enjoying the food and beautiful women! He bitterly remonstrated. He looked at the Mercedes-Benz driven by Dan and despised it deeply. What's a Mercedes-Benz? When Roslyn was going to marry him, the Brandon family were going to give him a Rolls-Royce as a dowry. What a pity that when he got married, there was only a Mercedes-Benz A-series for him! That car was originally used by the Brandon family to buy groceries for the servants. Now Dan drove it, and his status in the family was the same as that of a servant, and he could not compare with him. These thoughts seemed to give him some consolation and he felt much more comfortable thinking this way. Then he liked the car more and more. He even felt that Roslyn brought Dan to dinner today on purpose, just to irritate him, or to think about him, to have him in her heart. She wanted to redeem herself but could not save face. "Okay, since you are embarrassed, I will give you a chance. Rosy, you must grasp it!" His fantasy got the better of him. He determined to accost Roslyn as soon as she stepped out of the restaurant.
