CHAPTER THIRTY-SIX

He wanted to make her as uncomfortable as she had made him nothing too serious but he wondered how much he would have to do to piss her off. Well, so far he had discovered that not much just him being at the table was more than enough but not for him. She sneered and looked away to talk to her friend who had completely given up on trying to persuade and stop her friend from being unpleasant. She was also done with eating and kept her head down even as Sandra tried to have a conversation with her. The girls didn't stand out too much but someone they didn't fade into the background. Sandra was tall and even though she was seated, Vernon knew she would definitely tower over him. Her friend was smaller but not less in any way. Her face demanded attention. Vernon wondered what village she was from because her features were a little too different from what he was used to. She had small eyes that found a way to form a slant line especially when she had her eyes closed. Her features made him think of stac and she had lashes that would rival their whiskers. Vernon thought she was very beautiful but it wasn't the kind of beauty one noticed immediately. At first, her features looked odd but on closer inspection, 'wow' was usually the word that came to mind. However, Stac Lady wasn't the idea behind his plan, she wasn't even the reason for it. Her much nastier, evil twin was so, he turned his attention back to Sandra who chose that exact moment to raise her head from trying to whisper to Stac Lady and stare at him. Vernon's reaction was instantaneous. He smiled but made sure to make it as creepy as he possibly could. She frowned and immediately threw her face away, his expression had obviously thrown her off. She recovered, maybe a little too quickly in Vernon's opinion, and looked back at him. She found him still staring and sneered before breaking their gazes. She wiggled in her seat, he could tell that even though she couldn't see him look at her, she could feel and he was glad it made her uncomfortable. She then tried to outstare him but Vernon had already prepared himself. He had taken her evil words, her eyes didn't even come close. She soon faltered and her next tactic was to yell at him but just as she yelled, "Why are you staring at me?" The bell chose that exact time to go off and Vernon didn't blink as he stood to his feet and quickly made his way out without a glance in their direction after he turned away. He wasn't sure if he won but it sure felt like he did. He smiled all the way to Vivk's office. This time around he didn't run, of course, he was lucky Madame Rebecca didn't chew his head out because Madame Jessica came to his rescue, he doubted he could get away with such twice. He found himself humming and knocked twice when he got to the door of Vick's office. The dwarf pulled the door open with force yelling, "WHAT?!" as usual. "Oh Vernon, it's just you." Vernon grimaced, he didn't want to be here either and would rather be sleeping off the good meal he just had. "You asked me to come back?" He phrased the statement as a question with the hopes that Vivk would decline. "Yeah, of course." Vernon felt his face fall at the dwarf's reply. "You don't seem so pleased," Vivk muttered with a chuckle and started walking away from the entrance leaving the door open so Vernon could come in. Vernon scoffed, "Why would I? You haven't exactly told me why I am here and I think you keep wasting my time on purpose." Vernon's expression did not relax, rather it turned a little menacing. "Well, don't make it sound like that." Vivk returned and turned abruptly to face Vernon. "Show me what you can do now." The dwarf muttered stepping backward as if to give Vernon space. "What?" Vernon asked, a little confused. "You heard me, your newfound magic. I want to see what you can do. Go on." The dwarf replied, his gaze on Vernon had intensified. "You know I need some sort of plant, right?" Vernon returned, raising his left brow at Vivk. "Oh, how could I have forgotten. You picked the only magic branch that needs a source to display its magic." Vivk mocked, sneering as he did. "So, I am guessing you have a plant?" Vernon asked if ignoring Vivk's words even though he was just realizing what Vivk just said. Other magic groups wouldn't have to worry about carrying about a match as they don't need help to start a fire, whereas Nature magic groups would have to go around with a freaking plant One could say, there are trees everywhere but what if there aren't. However, it kind of is super annoying to work around with a match when there are others who do without it. Vivk rolled his eyes, "Yeah, I do." He said and went around the bigger table. He showed up with a flowerpot. It didn't escape Vernon's notice that whatever Vivk had been working on, it was no longer on the table nor was it in the office. The device had been huge, there was no way to miss it. He wondered if Vivk had been able to figure out what the problem was but by his attitude it was safe to say yes. Vernon watched Vivk slowly make his way to him. It looked like the dwarf wobbled on his feet and with every step Vernon could feel the strength of Vivk as he stamped. If the muscles on his arms weren't enough to warn anyone about just how strong Vivk was, his foot did the talking. They were bare, hideous, and had a bit of hair growing out of them. They were also huge and sturdy like the rest of him except his height of course. The dwarf carefully dropped the flowerpot in front of the child and stood to his full height as he made to move backward to give Vernon some space and he heard a question that he was surprised took the young man that long to ask. "Wait, just how old are you?"
