CHAPTER THIRTY

Lae! Vernon's mind screamed. Who in the blazes was that? He wondered. "Who is that?" He voiced out, fearing that this conversation was soon coming to an end as they were nearing the room he shared with the rest of the boys his age. "Lae? How don't you know… Never mind, I don't know why I keep forgetting you don't know a lot of things." She stopped skipping and started walking in a way that matched his own pace. "Lae is one of the unmagic, along with Invisible Boy and…" "Invisible Boy? Doesn't he have a name?" Vernon asked, he totally didn't have to ask what Invisible Boy's magic was, it was pretty obvious. "I don't know," she spread her arms about. "Everybody just calls him that. He seems fine with it, be careful he might be with us at this moment." Vernon watched in horror or amusement, he wasn't sure which was stronger, as Bess looked around slapping air and doing dumb shite as she tried to prove someone was with them. "And?" Vernon interrupted, he wasn't interested in petty tricks for some reason the person he wasn't even aware of their presence, intrigued him more than the fact that some invisible boy was eavesdropping on their conversation. "And?" She repeated, a little confused but this stopped her from running around crazily. "You said Lae, along with Invisible Boy and…" He was surprised he remembered the sentence word for word. "Oh!" She smiled as she got what he had been referring to. "Nobody really knows if he exists or not. They say he is the first mage ever and that on the day the big white rock fell, the exact moment it fell into our world was exactly when his mother gave birth to him." Bess explained, her eyes twinkling as she spoke. It was obvious that this was a common tale among the children. Bess told it with gusto, obviously proud that she was the first to tell him this juicy detail. Vernon listened to every word she said, not sure if she was just rambling or there was some truth in what she was saying. They soon came to a stop in front of the boys' room and Bess stopped abruptly in her tracks. "Try to get enough rest, nobody would take it easy on you tomorrow." She smiled and he knew she meant well. "Yeah, I certainly will. Um, Bess, couldn't you get rid of my spinning head, basically headache, and fatigue?" He asked, just as he was about to turn the knob to open the door. She shook her head, "Sorry but I couldn't do that. That's basically symptoms of lack of Mana and that's how your body is reacting to it. To cure you I would have to give you some of my mana to stop the nauseous feeling you have and I don't even think that's possible. For now, you just have to get enough rest and it should refill itself." Vernon pushed the door and walked in. "Alright then, thanks for earlier. " He said and waved before he closed the door with a slight bang. It was getting harder to stand and he wasn't sure he could stand Bess' shrill voice much longer. There was nothing wrong with her voice but in his stated hearing that constantly was depressing. As soon as he heard that she couldn't do anything about his condition, he couldn't wait to be alone. Though he had to admit she had told him more than he had heard since the couple days he had been here, he wasn't really curious about what was going on around here. However, the last part of their conversation struck with him and he found that he couldn't wait to see the unmagic in action so far, nothing seemed special but he was still curious, especially about the first mage. He slowly made his way to his side of the room and onto his bed, he was underneath his blanket in seconds. There he was finally alone since he woke up even though it was so long ago but he couldn't help but relish it a little. He wondered how long he had before he became a rowdy zone with boys running all around and causing trouble for each other. He sighed, this was really his life now. Somehow, his mind has been avoiding the most important thing that has happened all day and nothing could come close in comparison. HE. HAD. MAGIC. Even though he couldn't be excited about growing branches a few inches longer or turning them into fully grown trees, he was still super excited about his new abilities. He wanted to try more immediately to know what he could and couldn't do, and most importantly what he could learn to do. He was surprised Vivk had not mentioned it and that he also somehow managed to forget something that tremendous had happened. However, this was quite anticlimactic. He wasn't feeling as great as he thought he would. He was happy, yes but this wasn't the blandness he expected to come with finally getting his powers. Maybe he was just exhausted and not just physically because one thing was sure, his mental state was a wreck. Well, his little mind didn't know this, he just knew he didn't feel too good both inside and out. He closed his eyes tightly to try to force himself to sleep and try to keep his mind blank but for some reason, he couldn't stop thinking, try as he might, it just succeeded in making him think more. Finally, he gave up and just let his thoughts roam free. He didn't know how long he laid there just thinking about anything, most of them were pretty dumb however before long his mind got tired and he started drifting, losing track of his thoughts then having to retrace his steps to get them. When he finally felt the wave of sleep take him, he could do absolutely nothing to stop it so he just let himself be taken just like his mind and body sorted. As he slept, he had a weird dream that he met the first mage.
