Vernon was going crazy, things weren't getting any better, and the longer he stayed at the academy the worse off he felt. His life was now a routine and he prayed for each day to pass. Things were not getting any better but training intensified.
However, he could not keep up because of his magic and that left him in a bad place, not just mentally but physically as they no longer included him in any activities and now he just went to the training because he had to, not because something was going to come out of it.
It was hard to believe he had spent two years in the academy. Things weren't any different from the first time he arrived, the only thing he noticed was the training had stepped up a little. Pam was no longer his teacher. She had been replaced with a male one that nobody liked.
Captain Robbin was still in charge but he was seeing less of her compared to the first weeks he joined the academy. She was meaner though and basically ignored his existence. He was not contributing to the system, he was literally drawing them backward.
The new teacher all but completely ignored him but flared up whenever he had to take a break or was late to training. He was extra hard on him and did not acknowledge the freedom Pam had given him even though there was the fact that his mana was not a lot did not help and even though he knew Vernon could not keep up, he gave him equal tasks too.
These tasks stressed him out miserably and at the end of the day, all he wanted to do was sleep. Today, however, was different. Dev would not let him. "Dev, touch me again and I will pull your eyebrows out."
"Come on, Vernon. You can sleep at night but you have to come with me." Dev stressed, shaking him vigorously as he laid in bed trying to get some much needed sleep.
"I said no, I really am very tired. Our new teacher isn't exactly going easy on me and for some reason, he is especially pissed that I still can't grow a tree from scratch when everyone else passed that stage over a year ago. So, I am sure you can guess what I have been spending all my training time doing." He complained as he folded himself some more trying to get comfortable but Dev was not having it and he tugged on Vernon's leg.
"Trying to grow a tree from scratch," Dev said as he tugged on Vernon's leg.
"Argghh, stop it Dev. I really need to sleep. I wish that was what I have been doing for the last three days. He does not believe I am making any effort because whatever seed that is placed in front of me does not so much as c***k so, his big idea to make sure I am actually training is for me to waste my mana on the most ridiculous of things even though he knows how long and hard it takes for me to replenish it."
Vernon finished his statement and kicked his leg, hoping to kick Dev with it but he missed and ended up kicking air but Dev was not done and he was not giving up just yet.
He jumped in and this time he grabbed both of Vernon's legs and using air to make him light, pulled him off the bed. Vernon landed on tippy toes and staggered a little as he tried to get his bearings.
He finally stabilized and his eyes were red with fury. Dev always did that whenever it seemed like he would lose in a tug of war he added magic and Vernon would always lose. It infuriated Vernon to no end and he never hid it.
Vernon glared at him and yelled, "I am going back to bed." Then he jumped, however, he did not land on the bed as Dev had been quick to place a whiff of air which quickly pushed him off the bed again.
"Dev," he yelled exasperated. He knew he was not going to win this fight but he intended to keep fighting until he ran out of juice. He tried again, this time he didn't even touch any part of the bed, just landed on air and back down to the ground.
"What did he make you waste your mama?" Dev asked casually as if they were just having a regular conversation and that he was not bullying Vernon into doing his bidding.
"I am not telling you because we both know you don't care, you just want me to think you do because if you really cared you would let me sleep and you'll take care of the children for today. I will then help you out tomorrow but for today, I need to sleep." Vernon muttered in annoyance, faking a yawn just to show how much he needed to be left alone.
Dev was not buying it and even if Vernon dropped unconscious on the floor, he had no intention of letting this go and he would have still found a way to drag unconscious Vernon out of the room. There was also the fact that they both knew this but Vernon was not leaving without a fight.
"Vernon, are you really going to say I don't care," Dev asked, he looked a little hurt but Vernon was not buying.
Vernon nodded, "I do not go back on my word, so let me go to sleep okay."
"No way and definitely not after what you said," Dev muttered.
The both of them stood glaring at each other and then Vernon sighed. "How about this? I sleep for an hour, get the rest I really needed even though obviously an hour is not enough but I am willing to just rest for an hour and then after that, I will join you to hang out with the children but to do so effectively, I have to sleep first."
