Alex POV “Boss, you wanted to see me?” I opened the door slightly peeking inside “Yes Alex, come in”. The boss looked up from the papers he was checking “Sorry for making you come see me right after coming back, I’m sure you’re so tired, btw you did a great job as always” “it’s fine, well I am exhausted, I’m going to spend tomorrow sleeping” “you deserve two days off, anyway, it’s time for you to return to the tracks at work” I looked confused not understanding him “What do you mean boss?” he handed me a black folder “that is Lily, from now on she’ll be your partner” I froze opening the folder and seeing her picture and all her information, I glanced back to him “partner?! MY partner?!” the boss looked serious “yes, your partner, she’s been working abroad and only came back recently, she’s very intelligent and an amazing ac-“ “I don’t care about her amazing skills! I refuse to have a partner!” I cut him off enraged by his sudden decision “Alex, you know the rules here, everyone works in pairs, I made an exception for you for two years after what happened before but it’s time for you to move on” “Boss, there is no way I can work with her, I won’t be able to work with someone I don’t trust, we will never get along and all our jobs will be surely messed up” “In the contrary, you both will be an amazing pair, you both are always in the top and finish your job perfectly… Alex, rules are rules, I would understand if you want a male partner instead but you must understand I can’t continue to make an exception for you” “But boss, I really can’t-“ “I won’t take no as an answer, I’m not asking for your permission here, either you will start working with Lily or Leave” I went silent seeing the grim look on my boss’s face, I knew I can’t change his mind and I had to choose between this girl who suddenly came into my life like thunder or I will have to leave my work and I can’t afford to leave now, I still have something I must do “make sure to read all her information so it can be easier to work together, I will assign you to some easy job as your first mission together to get to know each other, I will tell you the detail later, you should go back and rest, see you on Thursday” he said with a little smile “yes boss” I said leaving his office cussing silently since I was really furious. I planned to continue this job alone. I can’t accept anyone into my life again As soon as I finish my personal job, I’ll resign… ********************** I threw the folder on the table and laid back on the sofa sighed in annoyance unbuttoning my shirt, some papers slid off the folder including her photo, she looked so young to be doing this kind of job I tried thinking of a way to make the boss drop this partnership thing but to no avail, the only way is to make that girl leave, either go back to where she came from or to resign I took the folder checking her information trying to find something that can help me break this partnership when I suddenly noticed something “witness protection unit?” I was shocked for a moment, this girl have been in this unit since she was 14 years old, to be part of the Canadian’s witness protection program mean that she was a part of a very big case but I couldn’t find any farther information I took my iPad and started searching about her info in our international database but her folder was classified, I was more shocked to see the letter ‘S’ on her locked folder which mean that only higher ups of important positions has the right to see it, like my boss and the president. “who is this girl? And she’s going to be my partner?! I already have enough on my plate, s**t!” I leaned my head back feeling more irritated I can feel it, it’s not just thunder that hit me… a whole storm is approaching to mess up my life and all my plans and I need to find a way to quickly avoid it ******************* Thursday came quickly, I dragged myself with heavy steps to the boss’s office , I couldn’t rest well thinking about that girl, I felt so tired even before starting our first job together “Ah, Alex, right on time, meet your partner, Lily Stone, Lily, this is Alex Del Hale, I hope you will get along well from now on” the moment I got in the office, I noticed the back of a slim short girl, her long light brown hair that went pass her waist did catch my eyes for a moment, when the boss introduced us, she slowly turned facing me with a small soft smile “It’s a pleasure working with you Alex, it’s my first time getting a partner, let’s work hard together” she said with a calm voice, her smile never disappeared, but her piercing green eyes made me freeze for a moment, they were glittering like emerald, somehow it felt like she could see through me, like she could tell that I already hate her and don’t want to work with her “yeah” I simply said as we faced the boss again, he glared at me noticing how cold I acted toward her but he ignored me “so as your first mission together, I want you to go get some information about the skull gang, we managed to track one of their members, he will be at XX bar tonight” he briefly explained showing us his picture along with information about him on the enormous TV screen on my right “get as much info as you could to help get them, they are very sneaky and now how to hide, we must find them, XX bar is full of rich people but also there is mafia people and other gang members so make sure to be extra careful and to wear showy and expensive disguise, you’ll find what you need in the dressing room, here are the tickets to go in there, good luck” “yes boss” I took the tickets and we left the room “Alex, where is the dressing room, it’s my first day here and I didn’t have time to look around” she asked me as soon as we left the office “let me make things clear, I have no intention on getting along with you or any other partner, I was forced to work with you so don’t try to be friendly with me, there is only work and I hope you won’t drag me down” she looked taken aback for a moment “I understand, I also came here for work and nothing more” she turned to walk away but then glanced to me again “make sure to be at least a professional agent during our mission” she gave me a cold smile before walking away I was enraged and wanted to scream but held myself back and walked toward the elevator I hate her… I mut make her leave as soon as possible
