On the esteemed Wellshire Private Boarding School for Creatures of the Moon, Maya is counting down the days until she turns 18: the day she comes of age, and will be accepted into her pack as a fully matured werewolf and her place in it will be decided.

But that is not given, and Maya has to fight for hers and to uphold the gamma-status her family has held for generations.

Additionally, she will be able to feel her mate, however that is the last thing on her mind as the competition on school tightens; or is it?

Chapter 1
“Ugh! Watch we’re you’re going you filthy little..” Angelica’s voice can be heard from the other end of the courtyard, as she bashes into an innocent 1st grader, whom has a look of pure terror on his face. Her voice mixes with the bustling sound of students rushing from and to classes. I wonder how her long blond hair can flow so perfectly down her hourglass figure and end right before her low cut jeans in such a mesmerizing way. And how such a stunningly attractive person can be such a hysterical b***h. “Auch! What was that for?” I rub my sore side where Jane had nudged me hard. “You weren’t answering me! Did you even hear what I said?” Janes irritation is adamant on her face. Her brown eyes are glaring at me. She is dressed in the royal blue uniform, which pops beautifully on her caramel skin. Her dark brown curls are a fussy mess, and her makeup looks a little rushed. She is skinny and very tall, almost a head taller than me. “I’m sorry, I was lost in my thoughts, what were you saying,” I try setting my features in a concerned look. “I said, that we need to talk about Christopher! He needs to start pulling his weight on this written assignment or I swear to god I’m gonna rip his face off. He is not even doing half the work we are, and he is now..” she looks at her phone, “more than 10 minutes late!” The three of us are working together on a project in Advanced Tracking, which has a written assignment due in 6 days. We have been working on this project for 2 weeks. “Jane, relax. We both know that Christopher is better than us, hell, he’s better than everyone in class, when it comes to actual tracking.” I tried. “Still! That doesn’t mean he gets to freeload on the written part! It’s 1/3 of the grade! I think we should talk with him about it!” She crosses her arm and looks out between the massive pillars that hold the overhang roof and separates the passage from a large green patio. She narrows her eyes toward the southeast corner where from Christopher will emerge any second now. Jane and I are waiting at the north most corner of the school. We decided to do our work in the Northern Tower because of the nice big living rooms with lots of warm fireplaces and quiet, cosy corners and because of the overlook of the forest going out towards the mountains in the north. Also because Jane had Chemistry in the dungeons nearby in the lecture right before, so she suggested the meeting place and no one thought it worth the energy to argue with her. I go back to staring enviously on Angelica’s beautiful features. My own dull brown hair seems an abomination compared to her golden locks. Jane waits for an answer and as she doesn’t get one, she snorts annoyed. I finely open my mouth: “you can say whatever you want to Christopher, but I’m not bothered writing a few extra lines, when I know very well, that he is gonna save both of our asses in the practical examination.” Besides I like Christopher. He is calm, doesn’t talk much and when he does it is usually with a small mischievous smile in the corner of his mouth, which I find quite charming. Jane is a hot mess right now with upcoming exams, and even though she is probably my best friend, it is nice to have Christopher in the group for some grounding. But I don’t tell her any of that. I don’t want to hurt her feelings. “Fine! But at the least he should show up on time!” That puts a small smile on my face. Punctuality is not Christopher’s strong suit to say the least. “Yes, that’s about as likely as Angelica coming over here, twirling you around and giving you a smack kiss on the lips.” She turns her head to look at me, as a small smile starts to break though her bad mood. “Wouldn’t that be a delightfull sight,” she laughs. I start laughing too, and I can see her bad mood sipping away. Relieved, I look up and see Christopher hurrying towards us. He looks pale in the gray light from the clouded sky. As he catches up with us Jane bursts out: “what the hell is wrong with you? Are you physically incapable of getting anywhere on time? And why do you look like you’re about to puke all over my brand new, pretty little shoes?” “I just..,” Christopher stammers, actually looking a bit greenish. There is no sign of his usual corner mouth grin, which immediately makes me worry. His dirty blond hair is ruffled and his blue eyes open wide. He seems shaken up. “I just witnessed Alfa Aleksander, he um..,” Christopher looks like he is lost for words. “Come on Christopher, out with it. What’s wrong?” Jane says concerned and pats his back. “Well it’s Katie Miller.. the Beta, she.. she found her mate, or.. at least she felt the bond, but I guess..” He tracks off again. “Christopher? Is Katie okay?” Jane asks him. “Um, well no, I.. you know how sometimes, and nobody knows why, one unlucky soul imprints on someone, who doesn’t feel the mate bond? Who has another mate?” “Oh no, what happened?” I gasp. “Alfa Aleksander, he.. he just rejected Katie in the middle of the grand hall”.
