Walking back hand in hand there was silence. Apart from the traffic noise everything seemed to be still. Even the wind had stopped. It was unnerving.
We got to the Adam's house. Looking around to check if the car followed us I twisted my neck. No luck. I sighed. Looks like I was just being paranoid.
Cleaning our feet, Sher and I go in.
"Hey mum." Sher calls out.
Mrs A came out of the kitchen and looked at us concerned.
"Are you girls back already ?. What happened ?."
Shuffling my feet while Sheryl held me I answered.
"We're fine Mrs A. I got a little sick because of the rides."
"Hmm, well all right. The food is ready and I just set up the table in the kitchen. You wanna eat dinner now ?."
I stayed silent.
"Yeah mum but let's go freshen up first."
We climbed the stairs and went to Sheryl's room. The first door on the left.
The door closed as we got in and she looked at me closely.
"Are you sure your fine ?"
I couldn't worry her so I lied. Something was wrong, I could feel it.
"Yes, I'm fine okay."
She went into the toilet but left the door open so I could still hear her.
"All right but I'm always here. You know that."
She always was. Even through the moving and all the bullying she stayed. Never judged when I didn't want to fight back but told me I had to one day.
"C'mon let's go eat."
There was a spread on the table. Mashed potatoes, meatloaf, chicken, corn and my favourite Mac and cheese with 3 different cheeses. This was a lot for just 3 women to eat but luckily I brought my appetite. My mum never cooked.
My mouth was watering. Mrs A was known for her delicious food. She never lost a contest but never wanted to go international. Not even have a restaurant. She served me a plate.
"So Luna, how are studies going ?. Bet your still a straight A student."
Stuffing my mouth it was kinda hard to answer her.
"They're going great. A's in every test."
She smiled then sighed.
"If only Sheryl wouldn't take a gap year. Wish she'd go to college sooner."
Sher choked while laughing.
"You trying to chase me old lady. Wonder what you'll do when I'm away."
Laughter filled the room as we spoke about school and reminisced about our old life in Scotland.
My plate was almost clean when I started feeling dizzy, everything blurred, faces melded.
"Uh, my head. What's going on."
I slipped from my chair to the floor unceremoniously taking my plate with me. I wasn't allergic to anything so what the heck. My gut feeling came back. Something definitely wasn't right.
Voices blurred together and I couldn't tell who spoke.
"Is she down ?"
"What did you do. You were supposed to wait."
"They want her now. The timeline just moved up."
Heavy footsteps approached. While blinking trying to see who just walked in, hands cupped my face gently.
"Sh..Sher ?"
An unfamiliar voice answered me back.
"Time to go little moon."
