One and a Half Years Later

1026 Words
A year and a half has passed, the New Moon Pack was moving on. Many lives had been lost to the war, including the Luna, but time seems to heal all. All except the grief-stricken Alpha, who blamed himself. He spent his days working and busying himself with pack business. He spent his nights drinking, cussing the Moon Goddess, and crying for his dead mate. His friends and family have tried talking to him, but it always turns into an argument. He is a shell of the man he use to be. He rarely sees his son anymore, leaving him with nannies majority of the time. He boy reminded him too much of his lost love. Damien knew it was unhealthy, his son barely recognized him the last time they ate a meal together. He just couldn't bring himself to look at Wyatt for long. He has his mother's eyes. Gamma Ray had captured the partner of his mate's murderer, but the killer got away. Alpha Damien swore vengeance on the Alpha who ordered the attack, and his mate's killer, but the pack had picked up and moved without a trace. The prisoner squealed, telling them his Alpha's whole plan was to assassinate their Luna. The war was just a cover up to murder his mate and weaken him. The plan was to drug as many warriors as possible and force Damien to turn over the pack at his weakest moment. The Alpha didn't know Damien's pack trained with wolfsbane, causing the plan to fail. Gamma Ray's POV: Knock knock knock I walk over to my office door opening it, seeing the team lead for our trackers. We have been non-stop trying to track where the Eastern Night Pack might have scurried off to since the war. Our best trackers couldn't even figure out which direction they went in. It was like the whole pack disappeared into thin air. We thought maybe they had the help of a dark witch, but we hired a light witch who couldn't feel any reminisce of dark magic. We were at a loss. I held the door open, stepping to the side and motioning for him to come in. "Gamma" He said sitting in the chair in front of my desk. "David" I acknowledged him back. "This morning border patrol found a rouge, half dead 500 yards outside of the Southeastern border. I was at the guard tower when the call came in. He told us he is former Eastern Night pack and requested asylum in exchange for information. Unfortunately, Mark Robins was with the group that found him. He lost his mate and son in the war, and his wolf took over, beating the rouge within a inch of his life." David informed me. "How long till he can be interrogated?" I asked. "The attending doctor said his wolf is weak. They put him in an indused coma to heal faster so we can question him sooner. Twenty-four to fourty-eight hours before they pull him out, depending on how fast he is healing." David said. He has always been professional, but I can tell he is just as anxious as I am to extract the information. "The Alpha and Beta are leaving for an Alpha meeting this afternoon. If Damien finds out about the rouge, he won't go. We need some treaties renewed or we might loose the alliances. Let's keep this between us till Alpha gets back in two days." I told him. "Should I tell the men that found him to keep it to themselves?" He asked me. "Where are they now?" I asked. "In the conference room, I had them come up right after we took the rouge to the pack hospital. I thought a ranked member might want to do a debriefing right away." David answered. "That works, I'll go talk to them now. Thanks David, you're dismissed." I said getting up from my office chair. After ordering the men to keep their month's shut and guard the new prisoner, I went to my brother's office to read him in on the new development. I didn't want to blindside him when they get back, plus he can make sure Alpha Damien does head home after all necessary meetings. We will all be ready to interrogate this guy as soon as he wakes up. Alpha Damien's POV: I'm leaving in one hour for the Werewolf Council. Even though I despise these meetings, I have to go. Every Alpha is required to go at least once every two years, I didn't go last year because it was hard to get out of bed. Nothing has been easy since Alison died. My heart feels like its being stabbed every second of the day. Rider only communicates when absolutely necessary. I had a break in the pain about a year ago for a brief time. I woke up at midnight in a cold sweat and didn't feel the pain, I actually had butterflies in my stomach. Rider had perked up too. I felt better for several hours, but when I saw my son, Wyatt, walking in the hallway with a nanny the pain returned. I packed my last minute toiletries into the small bag I'm bringing. We are only staying two nights so I don't need much. When I get to the SUV my Beta, Jay, is waiting. He takes my bag from me, putting it in the trunk. "I just mindlinked Claire, she is saying bye to Wyatt. She will be down in a minute." Jay said getting into the drivers side of the SUV. Claire has been there for Wyatt since Alison passed away. She stepped up and has been like a mom. In a way that hurt me, but Wyatt needs her. I haven't been there for him, at least someone is. The flight there was uneventful, lasting about two hours. We are staying at a five star hotel, so I decided to order room service that night while Jay and Claire went out. We had the next morning to look around before the Alpha meeting's tomorrow. I had a eerily feeling it wouldn't go well.
