Amelia shot up in bed, her body drenched in sweat and her eyes wet with tears. Winnie was whinning loudly in her mind. The dream seemed too real. It was like she was a bystander in her mate's memories. Amelia needed answers, and she knew who might have them. Throwing a hotel robe over her lacy pink nightgown, she runs across the hallway and knocks on her father's hotel room door. Her father, Alpha Travis Night, opens the door dressed in a suit and holding a steaming cup of coffee.
"What's wrong sweetie, you look flushed?" Travis asked his daughter, while leading her to a sitting area in his hotel room.
"Dad I had a horrible nightmare, one that seemed so real."
Amelia went on to tell her father about the dream, explaining everything with great detail. Her father listened on with a knowing look. He sat deep in thought for a minute before addressing her.
"What you saw is called a shared memory. Even though it doesn't seem so, it is a gift from the Moon Goddess. If she feels we need to learn something about our mate, she will show us their memory in the form of a dream. Although a rare occurrence, I have read about the phenomenon in ancient books. It has only been documented to occur between mates. What you saw, did happen. I was hoping Alpha Damien would man up and talk to you about the situation himself, but since he hasn't, I will tell you. It was a war sweetie, happening a little over a year ago. Damien's first mate was killed during the attack, leaving him to raise a two year old by himself. I know this is a lot of information to process, but you have a right to know."
"So is that why no one could see or hear me? Because I was reliving his memory?" Amelia asked her father.
He only nods his head yes, eyeing his daughter to gage her reaction. She seemed to be taking it well, but Travis knew she would. His children had always been down-to-earth individuals. He also knew given a chance, Amelia could win over not only Damien's heart, but also Damien's son's and their pack's hearts too.
"I have a few more meetings this morning, why don't you see if Aaron will take you out sight seeing before our flight this afternoon" Amelia's dad suggests.
"Thank you Daddy, but I don't think I would be much fun. I'll probably just stay in." Amelia mumbled to her father.
"You should at least eat Amelia." Her dad chastises her.
"Yes sir." Amelia said softly walking back to her hotel room.
Amelia knew her father wouldn't take no for an answer, he would send Aaron after her before long. She showered quickly, blow drying her long blonde hair straight and leaving it flowing down her back. She didn't usually wear much make-up, but today Amelia wore a small amount to cover her blotchy face and swollen eyes. Putting on mascara to help her usually bright green eyes pop, she noticed they seem more dull today. Amelia decided to wear her favorite sundress, a long, yellow A-line dress with white polka-dots. It featured spaghetti straps and a small cut-out under her breasts. The dress fit Amelia perfectly, flowing out from her small waist over her curves.
Amelia I'm at the door, are you ready to go to breakfast? Aaron asked Amelia through mindlink.
Yes just putting my shoe's on. Amelia answered back.
Aaron and Amelia walked three blocks to a cute little restaurant that served delicious breakfast. Amelia ordered an English breakfast with a large cup of green tea, Aaron ordering a breakfast burrito and coffee. They were having a good time, Amelia's mood improving a small amount. Aaron could see that Amelia was attempting to be her normal, cheerful self.
As they were finishing up their meal, Amelia smelled her mate as he walked through the door to the restaurant. Turning in her seat, their eyes making contact before Amelia focused her attention back on Aaron. He saw the tears building up in her eyes. Giving her a small side hug for comfort, he whispers to her that she will be okay. They hear a low growl from across the restaurant, turning to see Damien giving them a harsh glare.
"Excuse me." Amelia whispers to Aaron before running in the direction of the restroom.
Why did he act jealous just now when yesterday he seemed apathetic towards us? Amelia asked Winnie. Winnie didn't respond, instead she whined before curling up in the back of Amelia's mind.
Just then, there was a knock on the door.
"I'll be out in a minute." Amelia calls out. She washes her hands and wipes her face with a wet paper towel. With a fake smile fixed on her face, Amelia strolls out of the restroom. Only, she heard sounds of a struggle when opened the door. Speed walking back to the dinning room Amelia sees her brother, Aaron, laying on the floor, holding his face. Claire and another man were pushing her mate, Damien, out of the front door.
"What happened?" Amelia asks Aaron as she helps him off the floor. His face was already starting to heal from the black eye.
"He didn't realize I'm your brother." Aaron hisses. Leaving money on the table as payment.
They flew back home that afternoon, Amelia didn't see Damien again during the trip. She felt lost. He didn't seem to want to be with her, yet he reacted with jealousy when seeing her hug Aaron. She had so many feelings to work through.
