A Second Mate?

888 Words
Alpha Damien's POV: Standing in the ball room waiting for the Alpha meeting to proceed, I had a uneasy feeling. My wolf, Rider, was pacing anxiously in my head. I smelled the amazing fragrance of vanilla and honeysuckle before the doors even swung open. Mate! Rider yells. She was beautiful, her smell making my wolf go wild. She was wearing a dress that fit her curves perfectly. Her long, blonde hair flowing down her back. I couldn't believe the joy I felt... for a brief moment. Alison How could I forget my first mate? How could I ever be with another? No the Moon Goddess made a mistake. I don't want a second chance mate. I could never love another she-wolf as much Alison. She smiled the most beautiful smile I've ever seen, taking a step towards me. No, I couldn't meet her. If she stays an anonymity it will be easier to pretend this didn't happen. I shake my head no at her quickly, she looks so hurt. Backing away and leaving the room in large strides, I decide to go outside to clear my mind. I found a gazebo a short distance away, and take a seat on a bench. It had some small trees and bushes around it, giving privacy if needed. You hurt mate. Rider growls. Mate? What about Alison? I asked Rider gruffly. I will always love Alison, but we were gifted another. You should give that a chance. He tells me. I could never love another! I growl at him. He doesn't respond in words, instead he emits a low growl before disappearing into the back of my mind. I smelt her before I saw her through the branches of a willow tree, walking gracefully towards a black SUV with two guards standing by. She must be high-ranking, or treasured by a high-ranking member of their pack. She stops mid-stride glancing in my direction. I knew she could not smell me, I was downwind of her, but I quietly took a step back anyway, as to make sure I was not seen. A guard addresses her, but I my eyes were so focused on her ass I missed her name. I didn't go back in the meeting, Jay said everyone saw the whole spectacle my life has become. Instead I let my wolf out for a long run. By time I got back to the Council Building, it had been dark for hours. A driver was still waiting to take me to the hotel. That night was filled with the memories of Alison dying. Sleep alluding me most of the night. The next morning I felt more exhausted than the night before. I had so many mixed emotions clouding my judgment. Why did Alison have to die? Why would the Moon Goddess give me a second chance mate? How would Alison feel about this? Why did she have to be so beautiful? I could never fall for another. After showering and packing up my luggage, Jay, Claire and I decided to go eat breakfast at a restaurant down the road. I never expected to see my mate there with another Alpha. She looked so elegant in a yellow sundress. Aaron Night, future Alpha of Crescent Moon Pack. I met him a few times before during pack tour's and Alpha meetings. Our pack's have been allies for generations, but I know for a fact that he is already mated. So what is he doing with my mate? Is she his mistress? Like magnets drawn together, our eyes automatically found eachother's when I walked in. She had a hurt look in her eye before turning back and hugging him. Why is she letting another man touch what's mine! Rider rages. I had to fight him to keep from shifting right there, in the restaurant. My mate runs off toward the bathroom and I see my opportunity. Throwing my chair on the floor I storm up to Aaron. He stands up, bracing himself, before I punch him in the face. He goes down, but doesn't get up off the floor. He's not even attempting to fight back. Jay and Claire grab me, dragging me to the exit with them. I see her before being forced out of the door, running to Aaron seemingly concerned. She looks up at me with questioning eyes before the door shuts, cutting off my view of her. "Come on Damien, don't make the situation any worse than you already did!" Claire yells at me, her tone taking me by surprise. "ME make things worse? HE was touching my mate!" I yell in her face. This ellicts a deep growl from Jay. She touches his arm, calming him down instantly. I miss that. "The mate YOU practically rejected in front of every Alpha in the Council?" Claire said raising her voice to emphasize 'you.' I felt dejected, Claire was right. I repudiated my second chance mate publicly. I am just not ready for this. I still feel the pain of Alison's death daily. "Aaron is her brother." Claire said with a callous demeanor. I jerk my head back to her. "Her what?" I said in a low voice. "I said Aaron is her brother! Amelia Night, that's your new mate's name, not that you asked." Claire said with an indignant tone.
