Chapter two: Not what I had in mind

I woke up in a great mood. Now that I officially met Scarlett I feel a stronger bond with her. I can feel her emotions as if they were my own. I can feel when she is looking through my eyes with me. I can talk to her about problems because even if we are technically one, and I am overall in control. Scarlett still has thoughts, opinions, and a different perspective on the life we share. I'm grateful to have her now. Even though she has yet to show herself, and complete the shifting process. We already have such a strong understanding of each other.

I decided to wear a nice blue dress with a cute flower pattern on it to go with my new blue sandals. Since my hair is wavy I decided to curl it for my first day on campus. I had to look good but something was missing I ran to my room and threw my big white scarf over my shoulders. Perfect! Lucky for me my parents work close to each other. So my mom is going to ride with my dad, and let me use her car for school. I grabbed the keys ran out the door and lock the house behind me. I was headed for the closest coffee stand then to campus.

I get to school and I was so excited. I couldn't wait to see my best friend Sofi. It's been over a week since we hung out because I left town. Sofia Lozano and I have been through so much she's the sister I never had. She's been my best friend since our 6th grade year. Before Scarlett, Sofia was the only one I could open up to and she will always hear me out. I jump out the car and head for the entrance doors, I proceeded to my first class for the day. Then I can finally hang out with Sofi when it's over. What felt like forever was only an hour and I was free. After class Sofia and I ate lunch together. We were catching up when I decided to tell her I haven't been able to shift yet. As soon as the words left my mouth I could feel eyes on me but when I looked around no one was looking back. She told me the same thing my mother did "it'll happen soon" she also said it with a confident smile.

As I'm leaving Sofia a scent hit me. It's an earthy smell. It's... Pine?.. Pine trees? Yeah that's it. I've never felt this fond of the smell of pine trees but this is something different. It's almost as if I'm being pulled by the scent to come find it. I'm getting closer I know it. The scent is getting stronger when finally it's so close. I know it's just around the corner.

I turned the corner and see where it's coming from, or should I say who it's coming from. He turned his head slowly almost as if forcing himself to stay calm. It was Kai Summers, Gamma of our pack. As soon as he made eye contact with me I can hear Scarlett in the back of my head "Mate". He turned away after a few seconds, and reality hit me like a train. He turned back to face Ava Boone, his girlfriend of over 2 years! Next thing I know he's walking towards me. 'Oh my gosh! This is it?' I thought with excitement. 'He's picking me over her? Of course he is what am I thinking I'm his mate!' I told myself. I smiled more as he walked closer to me, but he wasn't smiling. In fact he looked annoyed. "We need to talk" he said. "Follow me" as he continue to walk past me. I glanced at Ava only to see a smug smile directed towards me. What's going on?

The bell rang and the hallways start to clear up. As soon as we got around the corner Kai turned around and stared at me. I could see the pity in his eyes but only for a moment. This wasn't how I had imagined it at all."Here's the thing" he started to tell me "I love Ava, we've been together for over 2 years and I can't just leave her a-" I cut him off. "So what are you saying? " I said frustrated and hurt not able to hide how upset I was. He started again "you don't get it! You can't just show up and expect me to choose you over Ava!" I can't expect that? I'm his mate isn't he supposed to choose me? I thought to myself. I couldn't keep my cool after he said that. "Yes that is what I expected! Why her? Why stay with her? I'm your mate!"

Kai looked at me with an annoyed look on his face. I didn't care if I did make him annoyed or upset this was bullshit! "What the hell!" I yelled at him. He couldn't care less at this point he was set on choosing Ava. He looks at me and says "I don't even know your name, I know everything about Ava so its a no brainer for me" He scoffed. "My name is Elora Frey and do you even care that you're hurting me? Hurting my wolf?" I said with my blood boiling and heart breaking. He gave me a smirk just like Ava did a few minutes ago. "What wolf? "He snickered. "Everyone already knows you haven't even shifted once yet." "What are you talking about?" I asked confused. "Ava's friend Belle overheard your conversation at lunch and has been telling everyone since. Why would I bother choosing the weaker woman? Ava shifted on the night of her 18th birthday the same day she gained her wolf. And you? You haven't even met yours." "That's right" said a smug female voice.

I turned to see Ava with an evil grin. "He already has the best sweetie so just stop." She said as she rubbed on his shoulders. "Just get it over with babe." She said with venom in her voice and rolling her eyes at me. This can't be real. Kai looks directly into my eyes and says "I Kai Summers, Gamma of the Silverlake pack, hereby reject you, Elora Frey, as my mate!" His words were calm but aggressive. Yet I thought I had seen sadness in his eyes for a split-second. I guess I was wrong because right then Ava grabbed his hand and he turned to smile at her.
