CHAPTER 17 The lamellar blinds were slightly open, letting faint blades of light shine into the room. Janus meditated on a worn polymer mat. He wasn’t wearing his mask, which he had set by his side, but his face was, nevertheless, shrouded in darkness. He was sitting in a lotus position, straight back, crossed legs, holding one palm of his hand against the back of the other, his ever-vigilant ears trained to perceive any sound coming from outside the housing pod. When the amplified broadcast reached block A7 announcing the curfew, he knew the time had come. He slowly opened his eyes and got up. Through the blinds, he could observe the people scurrying about.
