Chapter Two

LEVI'S POV

I locked my gaze on the man in front of me. The more his aroma reached my nose, the more repulsive his visage became to me. With a goofy smirk on his face, he continued to stare at me. Hazel eyes, curly blonde hair, a chiseled face, and a fair complexion. Ugh! You could have done better, Moon Goddess. What gives that he's this tall? These blasted alphas with their ridiculous height disparity.

"Levi, you i***t, say something, would you? He's waiting for you to say something! Oh my God he likes us. He definitely likes us. Look at the look on his face, he's totally smitten. I can hear his wolves squeals and excitement. Say something, you asshole!"

That was Elene, my wolf. I don't get why she's this excited. This guy is not even that handsome. Right now, he's disturbing my peace. Can't he just leave and stop gawking at my face?

"You have pretty eyes."

Excuse me? What? Before this guy gets ahead of himself, I think I should make it clear that he shouldn't think about taking this mate thingy to another stage. There's no possible way I would end up having feelings for a guy.

"Who the f**k is this?"

"Nooooo!!! Levi, you cold hearted bastard!"

Elene cursed at me but I couldn't care less. I just want this guy out of my face. He makes me sick for some reason.

"You hurt him! You hurt our mate. Can't you be more caring? His wolf is howling in pain right now. Poor guy! Look at his sad face, Levi. You deserve to be punished, you beast."

"Elene, I'm trying to read here. If you like him that much, how about you go meet him?"

"Was that supposed to be a joke?"

I blocked her away and resumed my novel. If I don't block her out, she'll spend the whole day screaming and scolding me like a mum.

NOLAN'S POV

I stared blankly at the food, picking on it. I'm too sad to eat. I have been trying to reach Zeke but he hasn't been responding. He's still hurt, terribly hurt by our mate's statement.

"Are you okay?"

Akira asked as he took a seat opposite me. I shook my head and leaned back on my chair. Akira chuckled and passed me a can of soda.

"He's here!" I heard Zeke exclaim. I looked around and I saw Levi by the vending machine. My eyes followed him as he walked away with a banana juice in his hand.

"For your own good, forget about Levi."

I turned my head back to Akira and shook my head. "He's my mate, Akira. How can I forget about him?"

"Try to or you'll end up getting hurt. It's the year 2999, mates aren't compelled to be together again. You can find a person better than him in the future."

"No"

"There are things you don't know about Levi, Nolan."

I furrowed my eyebrows and asked, "Things like what? You know what, just tell me about him. Tell me everything you know?"

"Everything?" He asked as he took a bite out of his burger. I nodded and he shrugged.

"Levi is um...I guess he's you can say he's a cool guy. He's kinda cold and reserved. He doesn't relate closely with anyone. He comes to school and goes back home without saying hi to anyone. Oh and he's a really good leader."

"Leader?"

"Yeah. Remember those teams put together by the government?"

"You mean the teams that were formed to get rid of omega r***s?"

"Yeah. Levi is the leader of Team Blue, the team in charge of Crystal Moon Street. Because of his team, omega r***s in the street really subsided."

"How do you know this?"

"I'm a member of the team."

"And you never told me?"

I stared at him in disappointment and he smiled apologetically. "I'm sorry. It escaped my mind. Really sorry."

"Whatever. Is that all about Levi?"

"No, there's one thing about him you wouldn't like."

"And that is?"

"Levi is homophobic."

"What?!" Zeke exclaimed. "He is what? Our mate is homophobic! Can this get any worse!" He wailed.

"Homophobic?"

"Yeah. I know this because he said it himself. A guy came to meet Levi one day and asked to join the team. Levi told the guy to introduce himself and during the introduction, the guy mentioned he was gay and Levi immediately sent him out. Before we could ask why he did that, he stated that he hated gays. Not just a simple hatred. He despises gays, Nolan."

"But...why?"

"Who knows? That was why I told you to forget about him. Both of you can never work. An homophobic guy cannot accept a guy as his mate, it's impossible."

I placed my head on the table in deep thought. Why am I this unlucky? My mate hates gays. I guess that was why he told me to get out of his face. He knows I'm gay and he definitely hates me now. What am I gonna do?

"You'll get over it soon, Nolan."

"No, I can't." I whined as I brought my head back up. "I've been dreaming for this day, Akira. I can't just let him go."

"So what are you gonna do? Is it until he spells out rejection for you before you back off?"

"Yes. When he rejects me officially, I'll let him be."

"Nolan, he asked who the f**k you were. If that ain't rejection, I don't know what is."

"It's not. You know what, I'm gonna join team blue."

Akira bursted into laughter, clutching tightly to his stomach. I frowned and threw a handful of fries at him.

"What's so funny?"

"Everything! You wanna join Levi's team? The possibility of that happening is a zero. Don't even dream about it."

"I can and I will. You're in the team already and that is an advantage. You'll introduce me to him and..

"Introduce you? Dude, that guy probably doesn't know a guy bearing Akira is in his team."

"At least, you'll try and...

"No."

"Oh come on! Please? Come on, you said I was like your younger brother. Can't you do this for your younger bro? Big bro, please?"

"Fine! But if I get kicked out of the team because of you, I'm never forgiving you."

"You won't get kicked out, I promise."

"You're really gonna take that risk?"

I placed my phone on the bed and put the call on loudspeaker.

"Yeah, I guess."

"What if he says no? If you ask me, your mate sounds like an asshole."

"Landon, seriously?"

"What?"

"Anyway, I gotta go. Akira is waiting for me."

"Just be careful. If he eventually rejects you, find someone else. I mean, Akira would make a fine boyfriend."

"Landon, Akira is straight."

"Oh my dumb brother. What do I do with you? You really believe he's straight? Dude, that guy has always had feelings for you."

"You're drunk, isn't it? I'm gonna cut the call now."

I hung up the phone and put on my facecap. Landon's irrational notions. Akira has been a friend of mine for approximately a year and a half. He could not possibly be gay, and I would have no way of knowing. But what if he is, and he's been keeping it hidden all along? No, no, no! Nolan, keep any strange notions off

I left the house on my motorcycle and met with Akira at the bus stop.

"So where are we going?" I asked as I rode on.

"The team's base."

We came to a halt in front of a house, thanks to Akira's direction. We took the stairs after Akira led the way in. The steps went to the house's basement. Levi was in a wrestling battle with a guy when we encountered him. Seeing him fight there only drew me closer to him. I smiled as Levi brought the guy down. He's quite powerful. I swallowed as he finally turned to face me, his brows deepening in a frown. I'm sure my presence irritates him.

"Why is he here?" He asked Akira.

"He told me he wants to join the team so I brought him here so...

"No."

Why is he so grumpy? I walked towards, his cold glare lingering on me.

"Just get him out of here, Akira."

Akira turned to me and gave me a "I told you so" look. I shook my head at him and spoke,

"Why?"

Levi raised up his head and raised a brow.

"Why don't you want me to join the team? I'm quite capable."

A challenging smirk crept on his lips. He stood up from his seat and hung the towel in his hand round his neck.

"You guys should leave. I need sometime alone with this dude."

I could hear Zeke jubilating in my head as Levi said that. I'm quite elated too but I shouldn't be yet. Who knows what he wants to talk about? Holy s**t! What if he wants to reject me officially?

"Don't be such an optimistic brat. Who knows? He might want to get to know us more."

Here he goes again with his crazy imaginations. The rest of the team left the basement. I gave Akira an assuring smile when I saw how worried he looked.

"Let me cut the chase and go straight to the point." Levi said as he sat back down.

"Whatever s**t is going through your head right now, whatever you might be expecting or thinking, clear them off because there is no way I'm gonna be mates with you. I don't plan on having a mate and even if I did, it wouldn't be a...

"Seesh! I get it, mister. And besides, who told you I'm here to persuade you or talk to you about us being mates or whatnot? I'm here to join the team and that's all. And guess what? The feeling is mutual. I don't like the idea of being mated to you either."

"What is that supposed to mean?" He stood up, looking quite mad. I smiled innocently and walked up to him.

"You're not my type."

I almost laughed when he squeezed up his face. "Don't get me wrong, you're all cute and all but...meh! You just don't move me. You're on the average scale."

"You don't look that good either."

"I never argued with you, you know. And one question, what's your height? You're quite shorter than me."

"f**k off."

"I will, when you tell me if I'm on the team or not."

I like the way I'm getting on his nerves. It's quite entertaining to see him angry. He picked up his phone and put a call through to someone.

"Yeah, you guys can come back in."

Shortly after, the other guys came back in. I walked up to Akira and stood beside him.

"So..how was it?" He whispered and I grinned.

"Entertaining."

"So, is he a member now?" A guy asked and Levi shook his head.

"He has to fight with you guys first before I make my decision. Kingston, you go first."

The guy Levi was fighting with before we came in walked out to the center. I walked up to him and gave him a little wave. He c****d his head to the side, probably trying to figure out if I am normal in the head.

"Go"

The round between Kingston and I began and I beat him in no time. Two other guys approached me and I fought with the both of them at once. I beat them too and it was Akira's turn.

"I'm really gonna whoop your ass."

"Just go easy on me or I'm gonna kill you."

The round between Akira and I began and yes, I beat him too. I helped Akira up and I turned just in time to catch the impressed face of Levi. He wiped it off immediately and stood up.

"Now it's my turn."

I heard Zeke whimper in fear as Levi approached me.

"Don't you dare hurt our mate!"

Zeke gave a stern warning. I made a fist with my hands and stood in a combat stance. I swung a punch at Levi, but he deflected it. I threw another, but he caught it halfway and kicked me in the stomach twice. I lurched back and tried to grab his leg, but he stepped away quickly and grabbed my arm. He twisted it to the back of my neck and hit me three times in the back. I tripped and fell. He knelt with a smug smile.

"You're quite weak for an alpha."

He stood back up and began to walk away.

"Wait! Am I in?" I asked and he nodded.

"Temporarily."

Yes! f**k yeah!

I rushed to Akira and hugged him. "What did you say about me not getting in?"

"I guess I was wrong."

"Welcome to the team, Nolan." Kingston said and I smiled. Well, this should be fun and frustrating.
