Chapter One

NOLAN'S POV As soon as I heard his car drive out of the compound, I jumped off my bed. I heard my elder brother, Landon, chuckle from where he sat and I shot him a glare. "I don't understand, since when has my room been yours?" I asked as I wore my pants. He shook his head and flipped the page of the magazine in his hands. "You know dad is gonna flip when he finds out you went to that underground boxing arena again." "He wouldn't find out if you don't tell him. I meant it when I said I would break your bones if you snitch on me, Landon." "Alright alpha, calm your t**s. Staying off your business is my hobby anyway." "Glad to know that." I buttoned up my shirt and checked my phone for any missed calls from Akira. I saw two missed calls from him and I dialed his number. "Where the hell are you?" "Calm down, Akira. I'm on my way. By the way, I'm hungry, did you get anything?" "We'll get something on the way there. Just hurry." "Ok." The call ended and I picked up my motorcycle keys. I brushed my hair and bid Landon goodbye. "I have a feeling tonight is gonna be the best." Zeke, my wolf, said and I shook my head. Here he goes again. He said the same thing about last night and I almost ended up with a broken neck. Zeke and I communicate telepathically. He's like my other half living inside of me. We're complete opposites and he can be so annoying sometimes. I got on my motorcycle and sped off while listening to my favourite song. I arrived at the bus stop and I looked around for Akira. I saw him leaning against a poll and I drove towards him. "It took you thirty minutes." I gave him an apologetic smile and hung my arm round his neck. "I'm sorry. I had to wait till my dad left the house. You know how annoying he can be." "I still wonder why your father doesn't really like you that much." I sighed deeply and patted his back. "That man isn't worth our time, Akira. We have a wrestling match to get to." Everyone believes being The Great Alpha's son is the best thing that could happen to me, but it's actually the worst. I was raised to live my life according to the expectations of others, and because I don't, let's just say my father isn't pleased. Worse came the day I came out as gay to my entire family. Damn! My bravado got me into a lot of trouble. I was weary of pretending to be someone I wasn't, so I decided to tell and show the world who I really am, but this just upset and angered my father. He ejected me from the house for nearly two months before allowing me to return. I would have been sleeping on the streets if it hadn't been for Akira. Akira and I met at a party a year ago. We quickly clicked and became friends, and we've been inseparable ever since. We arrived at the club and proceeded to the basement through the stairwell. When the stench of cigarettes and cocaine struck my nose, I coughed out. Even my nasal mask couldn't keep the stench from getting into my nose. Akira and I sat at a table and placed our drink orders. My gaze was drawn to the boxing ring, and I felt terrible for the man who had just been vanquished by the great Gerald. In this boxing ring, Gerald is the champion. He was given the name because no one has ever vanquished him in a fight. He is a beta but he whoops alpha wolves in the ass like a piece of cake. "Who is ready to die again?" Gerald shouted a challenge, and I smirked. This should be entertaining. I raised my glass to my lips and patiently awaited the one who would make the ultimate sacrifice. "I will." I rose up after hearing a voice from the crowd. Another body is ready to be transported to the cemetery. As the sacrificial lamb entered the ring with Gerald, everyone gathered around the ring. I couldn't see the guy's face since he had a nasal mask covering half of his face. "He's about to be beaten up badly. Is he a moron?" I nodded as Akira posed the question that was probably on everyone's thoughts. He's a complete moron. The boxing round began, and the crowd erupted in applause as Gerald and the weird guy fought. Is he an alpha? Even if he is, Gerald would dispatch him in a flash. There's no doubt about that. But wait a minute, why have I been perceiving milk and honey since I first walked in? "Nolan!" I heard Zeke scream and I groaned in frustration. "What?" "That's our mate." "What?" "That boy is our mate and Gerald is about to kill him!" He yelled and when I heard a loud impact, my head snapped forward. I stared down on the floor, terrified, believing Gerald had just killed my mate. Holy s**t! "We have a new champion!" I looked up as I heard someone cheer. My mate, lo and behold, was triumphantly standing over Gerald's comatose body. I've never met him, but I've never been more proud of him. Our faces happened to collide, and that was when I sensed it. I could feel the instant mating attraction as the milk and honey scent became stronger. The day I've been waiting for has arrived. I've finally discovered my soul mate. Zeke continued to shout with delight and ramble on about how lovely our mate's eyes are. The man ultimately averted his gaze and exited the ring. But wait, he shouldn't go yet. I left my original position and looked for him round the arena. I couldn't find him. It was as if he disappeared into thin air. "Dude, what are you looking for?" I heard Akira asked behind me. I turned to him and asked, "So you know that guy?" "Who?" "The one who just beat Gerald, do you know him?" "I don't know him personally but he attends Moonlight University. Why are you suddenly asking about him?" "That guy is my mate." "What?" He exclaimed and I nodded. He doesn't seem to believe me. I felt my phone vibrate and I took it out of my pocket. It is a message from Landon and it read : *Dad's on his way home.* f**k! I'm in deep s**t. I took Akira's hand and rushed out of the arena with him. "I gotta go." I got on my bike and ignited it. "Why? Let me guess, daddy's home?" "Yeah, for some reason." What exactly could that man be looking for, huh? Why is he back? I got back home in twenty minutes and I rushed inside. Everywhere was quiet and that could only mean he isn't home yet. "Is dad home?" I asked one of the maids and she shook her head. I went to my room and slumped on my bed. That was close. I heard the door open and I could tell it was Landon because of his scent. "So, how was the place?" He asked as he poured himself a glass of water. I sat up and turned to face him. "Bro, I met my mate." Landon's jaw almost hit the floor in surprise. He placed the glass of water in his hand on the table and came to sit beside me. "You did what?" "I know, it's crazy but I did. I met him." "It's a him?!" "Shhhh! Keep your voice down, would you?" "Sorry sorry. So let me guess this straight. You met your mate tonight and it turned out to be a male. But I thought this mate thingy only works with the opposite sex." "Ugh! It's the year 2999, bro. Things have changed." "That aside, how would dad take this news? You know how he reacted when you told him you are gay." "I know but he doesn't have to know, does he?" "So you're gonna try to take things up with the guy? You guys are gonna date or...?" "To be honest, I don't know. I don't even know if the guy is feeling the same excitement that I am feeling right now. What if he doesn't like me? What if I don't get to fall in love with him? Holy s**t, what if he's straight?" "Now that would be a bummer." I groaned and flopped on my bed. Landon chuckled and threw a pillow at my head. "Just wash up and sleep, Nolan. Don't over think anything." "I'll try, thanks. But where is dad? You said he was on his way." "That was what he told me. I don't know why he isn't here yet." "I hope he doesn't come home for a year." "He mustn't hear you said that. Sleep little one. You have school to attend tomorrow." "Ugh! I completely forgot about that." "You should be happy dad even sent you to Moonlight university." "I would be if he sent me there because he knows I would gain quality education but no! He sent me there only to save his shitty ass reputation." "You'll take over as the great alpha soon, Nolan. Stop talking like that." "Not like I want to anyways. I mean, why can't you take over? You're clearly the eldest." Landon sighed and made me lie on the bed. He drew the blanket over me and said, "You're the alpha in this family, Nolan and I'm a beta. Don't forget that." He switched off the lights and walked out of my room. He's right but why can't he rule the country? Landon is the best leader I have ever met but my father claims only an alpha can rule the country. Well, I see that as bullshit. THE NEXT DAY I got out of the car and waved goodbye to my driver. I exhaled deeply as I glanced at the massive structure in front of me. It's an all-boys' school. For me, this is the ideal school. When I heard Akira yell my name, I was going to take a step. As he approached me, I turned around and smiled. "You son of a...why didn't you tell me you are starting school here?" "It wouldn't have been a surprise if I had told you." "Idiot." We both entered, and I was taken aback by how chilly the inside was. Now I see what all the hype is about. As I strolled down the corridor with Akira, several eyes were on me. One of the benefits of being the great alpha son is the ability gain lots of attention. Everywhere you go, almost everyone recognizes you. Because it's fresher's week, I don't have anything on my plate this week. I requested Akira to show me around his class, and he happily obliged. The seductive aroma from last night assaulted my nostrils as I approached Akira's class door. The milk and honey aroma was greater this time. Zeke was already agitated, and he told me to find our mate was in this class. I entered Akira's class and attempted to track down the scent. Akira grabbed my hand and dragged me to a seat. When I saw a masked boy sitting alone with a novel in his hand, my excitement knew no bounds. I walked up to him after leaving Akira. "Hey" The young guy raised his head and removed his nose mask. When his stunning azure eyes met mine, butterflies exploded in the pit of my stomach. I had no idea what I was thinking about when I said, "You have pretty eyes." The boy tilted his head to the side, his eyes lingering on me. He must be feeling the same way I'm feeling right now. I'm sure of it. He turned his head to the side and asked Akira, "Who the f**k is this?" The butterflies in my stomach dissipated, and the adrenaline rush that had been coursing through my veins had subsided. My cheeks was flushed, and I could hear Zeke wailing in agony. He was in pain, and I wasn't feeling much better either.. "Um.. Levi, this is Nolan, my... "I don't care. Just get him out of my face." Levi brought his head back to the novel he was reading. Akira took my arm and pulled me out of the class. "What the hell did you do?" He asked as soon as we were out. "I...I just said he had pretty eyes. I was just being honest and... "You did what? That is a really wrong move, Nolan. You shouldn't have said that. In fact, you shouldn't have said anything to him." I grumbled in irritation as I took a fistful of my hair. I've always imagined the worst-case scenario when I finally meet my mate. I've always pictured the worst-case scenario as finding out my mate was a woman, but I've never imagined my partner rejecting me without even getting to know me.
