Do you believe in love at first sight?
"Do you believe in love at first sight?" he asked her as they sat in the sky filled with stars. "No," she answered, without looking at him. Such an obvious answer from someone like her, the one who would always choose head over heart. "How can you love someone you barely know?" she shrugged. "Well, I, for one, think it's the purest form of love. To love someone without knowing them, because, after that, all that's left is accepting every part of them, without a question, without expectation of change. To love someone unconditionally," he answered. It had been the last day of autumn, blessed by the mild rays of the sun kissing the fallen leaves of trees a warm goodbye before the harsh winter settled in. The richness of cocoa and milk spread through the air. Sipping from my cup of chocolate milk, I returned to typing. It's fascinating, isn't it? When your eyes meet that one person, your heart skips a beat. Your breathing hikes and yet you can't breathe at all. You're captured by a heart-warming feeling that leaves you all flustered and, like magic that's been done, all your thoughts possess that one certain person. All your actions revolve around that one individual who has made you feel something beyond your mind can comprehend. And all it takes is a moment. A moment to fall in love with a stranger you don't know a thing about. It's terrifying, even asinine, and yet enchantingly beautiful. I took a pause, thinking of what to write next. Writing has always come naturally to me, but for a while, it has been the toughest job to do. No matter what I write, I'm never satisfied with it. Like there's something that just doesn't feel quite right. At times, I feel so close to reaching it, and then it just fades away. I looked at over fifty drafts I have on my laptop. It's frustrating. I groaned and shut down my laptop. The reason why I won't make a career out of it. Just joking. I tilted my head to watch out of the glass window when I caught the sight of a light-haired guy, shaking in fear as another held him captive against the wall. What is happening? If life were a horror movie, I would've been the person who started all the havoc by opening the door that was supposed to stay closed for good. So, living up to my mark, I paid my bill in a hurry and rushed to the site. "I... I'm sorry. Just take it and let me go," a weak, trembling voice caught my attention. "Let you go? How convenient for you," the other scoffed in a deep masculine voice, crossing his arms over his chest. "Well, guess what? It doesn't work that way," he added darkly, and a whimpering sound left the other person's mouth. "Let him go," I shouted, and ascended towards the two figures. At this, his body relaxed a bit before he let out a sigh and turned to me, with an exasperated look on his face. And for a moment, I caught myself staring at him. To say the least, he was gorgeous. My eyes met the bright hazel gaze and my heart stopped momentarily, captured by the delicate green hues in those brown orbs. I took my time to admire his razor-sharp jawline, the kind that can cut your finger. Okay, that was an exaggeration, but he was the definition of hotness overload. Though, my happiness was short-lived as he c****d his eyebrow and asked: "Excuse me?"; making me snap back to reality. "I- I said, let him go," somehow, I found my voice. "You might be strong, but that doesn't give you a right to harass someone weaker. People like you think that you can do anything that favours you, no matter how much it costs others and no one will question you. Well, I forbid you from hurting him or anyone, anymore," I announced. "Well, this is not your kingdom, princess, and you don't control me. So, I recommend you keep walking while I deal with my business," he said with a straight face and turned back to the poor guy who just seemed to have been able to breathe. Horrified at what he might do, I quickly made him look back at me. His eyes fell on my hand, tightly grabbing his arm. His eyes snapped on mine with an intimidating look. I, on the other hand, decided to ignore the consequences of my little escapade. "Yes, you're right. I don't control you. But, I can stop you," saying those words, I stood between him and the blonde guy as a plan started to take shape in my mind. Just hope it works and I don't get hurt in the process. "Get. Aside," he warned. "No. I won't. If you want to hurt him, you'll have to go through me," I said stubbornly. "I said, get aside. You don't know who you're protecting," he snapped. "And I don't care. I won't let you terrorize innocent people," I snapped back. "He's not innocent," he said frustratingly, and I almost didn't seem to catch what he shouted. "No, I won't... Wait, What?!" I said in astonishment as the words settled it. I turned back to look at the person I was defending and everything happened too fast. A hard push hit me and a scream left my lips. "Damn it," the auburn-haired guy cursed, and I was sure I would hit the cold ground and bruise my arm. Moments later, my eyes snapped open, and I saw the hazel eyes staring back at mine. The fall was short but yet, an inevitable one. I was so sure, to hit the ground, but like a Prince from a fairy tale, he had caught me. He asked me if I was okay, but I was more than okay, livelier than I had ever been. Somehow, I found my voice and told him I was fine, still breathless from the fluttering of butterflies in my stomach just from being so close to him. I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding and looked away, anywhere but at him, scared of how my expression might betray me. And then, finally, the coherent part of my mind remembered. The other guy. We both looked in the direction he had run, almost sure that he had escaped but pleased by the fact that an officer had already had him on his knees with hands behind his head. "You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law," the words I've heard so many times in movies and TV shows have never felt this relieving. "Miss! Miss!" I heard Jackson's voice calling for me. "Jackson! I'm here," I waved my hand at him as the forty-year-old man made it up to me. "Miss, there has been a robbery in the area. Are you okay? Your father is worried and told me to get you," he said with a frown. "Yes, I'm alright. Thank you, Jackson. I just need to...," I turned around to thank the guy who helped me but, to my dismay, he was nowhere in sight. People had started to gather around the scene but no sign of the auburn-haired guy in the crowd. I replayed everything that had happened in my mind. "Miss, are you sure you are alright?" Jackson asked with a worried expression on his face. "Oh, Jackson. Never been better," I replied with a dreamy sigh.
