Hera
It's a new day and I'm feeling a bit better. Yesterday was a lot for me to handle but I'm confident that today will be better. I had an appointment with Lena for 9am so I had to hurry. I've decided that I won't tell Dad or anyone about the job; It's a lot easier to deal with my issues this way. I had my breakfast, got dressed and headed out.
I took a cab and stopped in front of Veyra enterprises, I smoothed out the invisible wrinkles on my navy blue dress and headed in.
“Good morning” the receptionist greeted warmly,
“Hello, I'm Hera Baines and I have an appointment with Lena Veyra for 9am” I said politely,
“Oh Miss Baines, she's been expecting you. Take the elevator by your left and head to the 10th floor you'll see her personal assistant’s stand there, just go to her and she will direct you to Lena” she said, picking up the telephone to make a call across,
“Thank you very much” I responded sincerely,
“You're welcome dear” she said in a chirpy tone.
I followed her instructions and finally ended up in Lena's office,
“Come in” she replied as I knocked,
“You have a very beautiful office” I said as I sat down, it was your typical modern office space; two huge windows covered with blinds, a large desk with three chairs, a mini sitting room area, the walls were painted sky blue, she also had collection of little trinkets from different countries, book shelves and the overall office smelled really good.
“Thank you very much, I love to travel a lot as you can see” she said as we looked at her collection of rare items,
“There's an opening for a managerial position in this establishment, the former person was a really great guy but he moved out of the country with his family. I need to fill in that vacuum that's why I reached out to you” she explained as she handed me a document with my job description and the estimated pay per annum.
A thousand dollars monthly? That's a really great pay, which means in a very short while I should be able to move out of Dad's house which is simply great.
“Think about the offer carefully, okay?” she said tapping her desk lightly,
“There's nothing to think about anymore” I replied her “I've decided to take the offer”
“That's great” she clapped enthusiastically “Yes! for a moment I was worried you would say no. You can resume immediately if you don't mind”
“Okay no problem” I responded with a smile,
“Let me get someone to give you a tour of the building”...
It's been two weeks since I started working at the Veyra enterprises, it's been going well generally and I've managed to keep the details of my new job a secret. I leave the house very early in the morning and I come back late at night. Dad and I aren't exactly on speaking terms but not that I care anyway.
I got to work early as usual and began my duties for the day,
“Hera, come to my office immediately” I heard as soon as I picked up the telephone,
“Okay” I responded and headed to her office,
“Take a seat” she said to me as I entered,
“Hope everything is alright?” I asked feeling a bit worried,
“You worry to much” she laughed brushing it off neatly, “There's a client we really need to secure a business deal with, here's everything you need to know about him” she handed me a file with all the details I need to know about him,
“Ace? That's his real name?” I asked feeling a bit unsure,
“That's what we know him as, he is well connected in the Russian Bratva and they don't give others their real name” she explained,
I was shocked. “He is a part of the Russian mob?”
“You don't have to worry yourself about him, he is very nice, okay?” She said “you'll be fine, he's lodged at The Edge Hotel in Brooklyn. I'll have a driver take you there, all he needs to do is to sign this document” handing over a crisp white envelope to me.
“Okay Ma'am” I said leaving her office, I grabbed my purse and I was out the door.
The driver dropped me off in front of the hotel
“Thank you” I said to him as I alighted in front of the prestigious The Edge Hotel.
“Good morning” I said to the receptionist “I'm here to see Mr Ace from Veyra enterprises”
“Welcome Ma'am, take a seat while I make a call across to him” she said,
“what's your name?” She said as I sat down,
“Hera Baines” I replied, I could feel tension running through my body already,
“Miss Baines?”
“Yes” I replied, standing up
“Take the private elevator by your left to the pent house, he is waiting there to receive you” she said with a smile,
“Thank you very much” I said as I headed to the elevator.
“Miss Baines, it's a pleasure” I heard as I got into the pent house,
“The pleasure is mine Mr Ace” He's a very tall man, buff with a lot of tattoos and a very strong Russian accent,
“just Ace please” he said with a smile gesturing me to take a seat,
“This place is nice” I said as I took a look around it's quite a vintage apartment but with a modern twist; the chairs, tables and centre rug were brown, it has a nice fire place and a mini bar,
“Yes it is” he replied, “do you care for a drink?” He asked as he poured himself some whiskey,
“No I don't, thank you. You're supposed to sign this document” I said dropping it on the table
“why?” He asked,
“Sorry?” I asked shocked,
“Give me a good reason why I should?” He asked as he took the seat right next to me,
“I was under the impression that you had completed all negotiations with the company” I stated,
“ Yes I have little mouse, that's exactly why you are here”.
