Universe sure knows how to play a rough game on me. First was my father's persistence in getting a wife before the week ended, then I had one turn with a lady who turned out to be one of my employees. The same girl who hadn't gotten off my mind since last night is my employee. The door to my office creaked open, and she came in, her head lowered. “S-sir” She quivered in her soft voice, the same voice she was moaning with last night. My c**k hardened at the memories. “Ms Brooks”, I called her, and she flickered her gaze, staring directly at me. I knew I needed to clear the atmosphere. The tension between us needs to be eased if I want things to go fine. “About last night.. ” I paused, and I didn't miss the way her cheeks reddened, but it was brisk to cover it up. “It was a drunken mistake, and I'd like wen't talk about it again,” I said. “S-Sure say. I'll appreciate that. We were just drunk. Nothing happened. ” Her words came out in a rush and I let out a chuckle. “ Alright then. You can..” The shrill from my phone interrupted me from completing my statement. I glanced at the caller ID and a frown crept on my face. I drew in a long breath before picking up. “Dad” I mumbled. “How can you be so calm after creating a huge mess?!” His voice thundered from the other end and my eyebrows c****d in confusion. “What are you talking about?” I questioned. “Check the news” was all he said before dropping the call. What's wrong? Just then, Evelyn's eyes darted to her phone, which had been clutched in her hand all through. She checked the screen and her eyes widened in shock. Her face paled as she looked as though she had seen a ghost. “T-the news”. She stuttered and, at that moment, I knew something was terribly wrong. I opened my phone and the first headline I saw made my heart sink. I felt like I'd been punched in the gut. My jaw clenched as I scrolled through the news on my phone. "The new CEO of ReedCorp found in a bar with an unknown lady" " He's never been seen with a lady for a long while now. Could she be his girlfriend?" Another one read. I scrolled down and there were still a lot of them, including the picture of myself rushing out of the bar this morning. I tightened my grip on my phone. How did this happen? I looked up at Evelyn. Her expression mirrored mine. I stood up from my chair and walked up to her. "I'll fix this," I said silently before walking out of my office. I could feel the weight of the employees’ gaze on me. I could hear their silent whispers but soon as I flickered a look towards them, they quickly returned to their work. My phone pinged with a text as I stepped outside. It was from my father. "COME HOME NOW" This was all my fault. I should have been more careful. Being the newly stepped in CEO has brought me a lot of attention and I had let my guard down. My first week and I have already jinxed it I stepped into my car and drove to my father's mansion. My mind raced with thoughts and apprehension as I arrived at my father's mansion. I barely registered the maid's greetings. "Where's father?" I asked his assistant. " He is in his study. " He replied and immediately, I made my way to his study. The door swung open, and I saw him pacing behind his mahogany desk, anger clearly etched on his face. "You are late." He roared. " Do you have any idea what kind of mess you just created? How could you be so careless?" "Calm down dad" I said. "Let me explain." "What is there to explain?" His eyes narrowed, and he slammed his fist hard on the desk. " The entire company is talking about your private life. Do you have any idea how damaging that is to our reputation? I haven't even been gone for a week and you've created this mess. " He raked a hand through his hair. I knew I needed to do something. And then, without thinking, I blurted out " The woman in the news is my fiancée. We were celebrating my new position as CEO." I gulped, realizing I had just dug myself into a deeper hole and his eyes widened. The anger in his expression shifted to surprise, then to a strange curiosity. " Your fiancée? Why didn't you tell me? " I swallowed hard. "Yeah. We went to the bar to celebrate, and it just got out of hand. I didn't expect the media to catch us, it was a private celebration " His eyes lit up, and a broad smile spread across his face. His anger seemingly forgotten. " My son, you should have told me you have someone. I wouldn't have lashed out at you about finding a wife. " He took a few strides towards me and pulled me into a hug. " I'm thrilled! Well, let's arrange for me to meet her. I'm really eager" I pulled away from the hug. " Yeah sure, you'll meet her soon. ” After a tense conversation with my father, I left the mansion. The grand estate seemed to close in around me and I could barely focus on the drive back to the office. The reality is that Evelyn wasn't my fiancé, she was just a stranger I met and had s*x with in the bar and I had just introduced her as my fiancée settled heavily on me. I rubbed my temples gently, trying to steady my racing thoughts. I need to fix this as soon as possible. My father is expecting to meet Evelyn this weekend. An idea struck my head, but I honestly doubted it would work, but I decided to give it a shot. I rushed to my office once I got back to the company. I took a deep breath and scanned through the employees' records, finally locating Evelyn's information. I hesitated for a moment before dialing her number. After a few rings, she picked. "Ms Brooks" I said, trying to keep my tone steady. "Come back to the office immediately, I need to speak with you." There was a long pause on the other end before she finally spoke up. "Y-yes, sure* I hung up, feeling a mix of emotions - relief that she agreed to come and dread the task of explaining the situation. Evelyn stepped into my office 30 minutes later, exhaustion etched on her face. I gestured for her to sit and braced myself for what was about to come. "Ms Brooks" I cleared my throat in an attempt to keep my voice steady. " S-sir, what is going on? The media..” "I've fixed it." I interrupted, and she glanced at me, her eyebrows knitted in confusion. “ The news will be taken down " Her eyes flickered with excitement. " Thank you so much. I've been worried. I thought you called to fire me ” She muttered and I shook my head. “I need your help. My father called earlier and made a fuss about it. The media's interest won't die down unless we present a united front. I had to come up with a charade to calm him down. I told him you're my fiancée. I dropped the bombshell and a stunned silence followed. It started as a stifled chortle, then a chuckle and then laughter. " Your fiancée? Really? " She choked with laughter. " That was the only way out. You just need to play along for a while. It's a temporary solution to a bigger problem. " I said, trying to keep my frustration in check. "What? You're really serious? " Her laughter faded as she looked at me, her expression hardening. " How do you expect me to be your fiancée? I'm just going to act like your fiancée for what? " A year? ” She paused. “You want me to act like your fiancée for an entire year?” “Yes” I said, my voice more calm. “ A year and then we'll part ways. I just needed to convince my father about the whole wife thing. ” "A year?" She stood up abruptly from her seat. " I'm sorry sir. I won't sell out my dignity like that. ” I chuckled “But you didn't have a problem with giving out your dignity when you were moaning and coming all over my d**k last night.” Her cheeks reddened “We promised not to talk about it again and that was a drunken mistake.” She ruffled her hair in frustration. “And I'm not interested in being your fiancée”. She turned to leave. " There's something in you, Evelyn. ” I said, and she stopped in her tracks. “If you agree to this” I said, my voice firm and steady. “I'll cover your mother’s medical bills.”
