The chauffeur drove through the morning traffic all the way to Robin’s private mansion. Last night, his brother had calledto inform him that he had found someone that will sign the contract of marriage and act as a bride to him. He did not believe it of course, that is why he was here to see her forhimself.
The chauffeur pulled the black Mercedes into the parking space in the mansion and turned off the engine. He steppedout and after glancing around the compound, he open the door for Cynthia to step out, her family step out too.
Mathew was standing by the door step waiting for them to approach. He knew there had a long journey. After putting on his shades, he walked through the steps and approach them. Without hesitation, he welcomed them. The sight that met him was disturbing. He had never seen somuch distress in a person. He looked at Cynthia and to her family.
"You are all welcome, my name is Matthew," he says gesturing towards them to follow him. "Please follow me."
He led them into the big mansion. Cynthia and and her family look astonished by the big mansion. They had never seen such beauty beauty before. It was a dream impossible for them.
Mathew helped them settle into the the large living room. They sat in the soft cushion. Mathew taking the staircase, he went all the way to Robin's door and knocked once. Pushing it, he went inside andfound his brother sandwiched between two girls. All of them were naked.
“Robin, get up.” He said and moved to open the curtains. Sunlight poured into the room in horizontal lines, through the shutters.
“Get up, I said.” He then opened the shutters and then light filled the whole room.
The girls groaned and then Robin moved.
“Mathew you’re too early.” Shifting to the edge of the bed, he foundhis boxers and slipped his legs in them.
“You said you found her.” Robin now faced his brother, arms folded.
“Yes, I did.” Mathew glanced behind him at one of the girls and then Robin gasped.
“No. Don’t tell me it’s one of them.” His face twisted in disgust as Mathew chuckled.
“No, she is not. However, she is amazing. Bro you’ve got to meet her.” said Mathew.
“Alright, let me take a shower. I will be downstairs in a jiffy," says Robin, getting up from the bed.
Mathew signal to the girls to dress and move out of the room.
"So, brother tell me more about her. This lady who has decided to marry a freaking billionaire like me." Says Robin.
Mathew chuckled at Robin’s description of himself but could not agree more. His brother could be a devilsometimes.
“You can be unpredictable sometimes, you know right?”
“Yeah, but that's who I am. At least isn’t that what father wants, for me to marry?” says Robin.
Robin walk-through the room and headed straight to the bathroom to take a shower, he thought about all the times his father stared at him with so much spitewhen he did something bad.
“Anyway, do have your bath, get dress up and let’s go meet her downstairs," says Mathew.
Mathew went downstairs to welcome Cynthia and her family once again. He made them feel comfortable and to relax. He signal to Cynthia to come meet him do they can have a private conversation.
"Miss. Cynthia, I am sorry to have bother you and your family at this time. It wasn't something to be discussed over the phone." Says Mathew.
"Mr. Mane, so what do..." Cynthia speak but was quickly interrupted by Mathew.
"It's Mathew. Not Mane," he chuckled. "Actually, I have run some background check on you and I have selected you to be the one to take this role perfectly," says Mathew.
"What role?" Cynthia ask.
"To act as my brother's bride," Mathew spit.
"Wait. What? Bride. No no..." Cynthia rejected the proposition.
"Hear me out first Miss. Cynthia," Mathew hurriedly cut her. "It's a contract. And it is just for two years." Says Mathew.
"I can't do that. I have a fiancée," Cynthia says. "Well, he might be out of town but I can't cheat on him."
"The contract is worth over a million dollars," says Mathew.
Cynthia was taken aback by the sound of a million dollars, "I...I can't do it even if it's for a billion," says Cynthia, rolling her eyes. Her voice was betraying her body language.
Cynthia knew this is a one time life opportunity that she must not afford to miss. With a million dollars in her account she could do a lot.
"That's not all," says Mathew. "You will get to choose how you want to live your life and also, if you become pregnant for my brother, you will earn double the amount, making it two million dollars." Says Mathew.
Cynthia was confuse, the offer was to realistic to be true. She thought for a second, what if Andrew is back in town? What will she do or say to convince him? There wedding is around the corner.
After some thought she decided to consider the offer, at least her family can have a better life.
"I will do it but I have some condition I want you to meet first." Says Cynthia
"I am listening, Miss. Cynthia," Says Mathew.
"My family need a home. Can you provide them that?" She ask. "Also, I want my father to be employed, I don't like seeing him the way he is. These are my conditions." Says Cynthia.
"Hmm," Mathew sigh. "Okay, I will speak with my brother and get back to you." Says Mathew.
Mathew, went upstairs to speak with his brother. Robin was getting dress up in his closet.
"Hey, I have spoken to her and she did agree to the marriage," says Mathew.
Robin spoke from the closet. “Oh that's great.” He says while trying to wear his pants.
“Iwon’t let you meet her until you accept all her demands.” says Mathew
Robin turned on his heels and stomped out from the closet. His face twitched with controlled anger as heasked. “What demands?”
Mathew who was sitting in one of the chair, pouring wine in a glass cup, glanced at him with an ‘are-you-kidding-me” look and shook his head.
Sipping the wine into his mouth, he spoke with his mouth full of wine “You want her to play your wife.Of course, you’re going to have to give her something in return.”
“Yeah, that’s why am paying her.” Robin snapped.
“Oh she doesn’t want your money.” Mathew said after sipping more wine. He opened the bottle wine andpour some more into his glass cup.
“So what is her demand?” Robin felt offended.
“She has set out some condition to be met,” says Mathew.
“She has no right to do that! I am marrying her! I am the man of the house, so I make the rules.” Robin snappedwhile going red.
Robin fisted his hands and glared at his brother, with brows arched. He could not believe the nerve of thatgirl. Who did she think she was, setting some conditions for him? Didn’t she know whom she was marrying? He is a billionaire and the CEO of the Robinson fortune -the chain of businesses, which Forbes magazine named as the richest in the worldlast year.
If there are going to be some conditions to be met, he would be the one to set them up.
“Oh Robin, you and your damned ego.” Mathew moved back to the bedside.
“I don’t want to hate her already before I meet her, so please tell me what she said.” Robin followed him, clenching and unclenching his fists. “Let’s go to my study.” he added.
They left the bedroom and moved downstairs to Hansen’s study. It was theonly place in the whole house that was spared from destruction. Robin refused to sit even after Mathew askedhim too. He was so angry he could not bring himself to be caged in some cushioned chair. Mathew took out a file from his desk and handed it to his pacing brother.
Anderson quickly ripped it open and glanced through. As his eyes read its contents, Mathew watched him, nervously. He knew his brother would not be too happy with some of the demands on the paper. However, what
could he have done? There were what Cynthia wanted and frankly, he agreed with her on the terms.
“This is bullshit!” Robin cursed and threw the file on the floor. “She wants me to find her family a home to live? Ajob for her father? And… what? Her brother to go to college and I will be the one to pay the bill?”
“It’s only fair.” says Mathew
“No, am not marrying a girl whose family are leaches! Mathew I cannot believe that the only girl you managed tofind is a daughter of a drunk and has no job. You promised to find me the best girl there is who will not question MY EVERYWORD.” He yelled.
“Robin,” Mathew sighed. “She is the best I could find.”
“Well your best is not good enough.” He told him and turned to leave when Mathew yelled.
“She was the only girl I met who was not a gold-digger! She did not accept the offer right away even after wementioned the money. Meanwhile, the other girls were already planning how to extort money from you after the
marriage. She is a small town girl who lives with a drunk and abusive family, but she still managed to make a living for herself without depending on anyone. If you two get married…”
“I am not marrying some obnoxious drunk’s and abusive daughter.” With those words, he stormed out.
Mathew took Cynthia and her family to a guest house and lodge them there pending his brother approval of her conditions to be met.
