CHAPTER ONE
Amidst my bustling kitchen activity, the sound of Nani's persistent barking drew me outside.
"It seems like I've got mail. Thanks for letting me know, dear," I gently patted Nani on her head before returning inside with the envelope in hand.
"It's from the bank," I muttered to myself as I have it open, only to discover a notice demanding repayment of f*****g $600,000 loan.
"What the heck?! When f**k did I borrow such crazy money? Is there something wrong with those mutts? This definitely got to be a mistake! These assholes are messing with the wrong person," I fumed as I reached for my phone to call my husband's lawyer and just then, Desmond walked in..
"Hey honey, you're back early today. Is everything okay?" I asked, attempting to assist with his suit but only to get shoved aside, nearly stumbling. Making his way upstairs to the bedroom, I informed him about the bank notice.
“Just about to grab my phone to call your lawyer because I just got one crazy notice from the bank; apparently, they claimed I owe them $600,000. Can you believe that?" I chuckled, finding the situation unbelievable and somehow funny but he doesn't seem surprised about it. Ok, this's getting crazy and annoying.
"When did they bring this?" he asked with a cold voice, to which I nonchalantly replied because I don't give a damn face at this stage.
"Not long ago."
He requested it and I gave it to him thinking that he wanted to read it and have it checked out, only for him to take it, and head straight to the room.
Wait... is this some sort of joke right now? Because I'm completely lost here. Not thinking twice, I hurried after him and met him in the midst of undressing. "Don't you have anything to tell me? Because it kinda seems like you’re aware of this loan while I'm stuck in the dark," I interrogated him.
After a brief pause, he uttered with a sad look, "Honey, I'm truly sorry," He said and I froze.
Did he just call me 'honey'? Like seriously, Desmond called me 'honey' and not some f*****g crazy abusive names. Is he alright? I kept asking myself different questions, puzzled by his sudden change of attitude. We have been married for three f*****g years and every since our marriage, he completely changed from the angel I once know to a devil. He goes around with bitches, smokes, gamble and does different kinds of s**t and I even ended up paying most of his debt which now make me totally broke and i'm just like an empty container right now.
Desmond began to explain, "Things have been kinda tough at the company, and I was in dire need of the money. That's why I took out the loan. Trust me, I never intended for you to find out like this. My plan's to sort it out as soon as I get that crazy contract, but unfortunately ... .i…..lost it.”he broke out and I don't really know what to say right now. “That's part of the reason why I've been behaving strangely, drinking, gambling and also lashing out at you for minor mistakes," he confessed.
In that moment, a wave of guilt washed over me as I realized the pain he had been silently enduring. I’ve always thought he had fallen out of love for me, that's why he do all those s**t.
“ Sweetie, I'm really….. sorry.” I said as I gently moved closer to him, holding his hand, ‘’ I had no clue that you are going through all this all alone. But you should have confided in me; after all, I am your wife and…partner. We should be sharing this burden together, and not bear this pain alone," I added trying to console him as he used his hand to wipe his tears.
Desmond pulled me into a hug, and I felt really happy right now because it had been ages since we have been intimate. But then something suddenly struck me,
"But how exactly did the bank approve such a huge amount of money? Did you possibly use your company as collateral?" I inquired, gently pulling away from his embrace.
"Well... I couldn't use my company as collateral because I still…. have outstanding debts with it. So, I got no other option but to use the deed to the…..," he explained in a soft tone but I couldn't get what he is trying to say because he didn't complete his sentence.
“To the what?” I asked with a wide and awkward smile because I'm now feeling tense.
Scratching the back of his head he replied, “ To the mansion”
"Which mansion? Did your parents willed any mansion for you?" I asked him again, as in all the time I’d known Desmond, he got no property that could be considered his.
"I'm talking about this mansion, sweetheart," he replied, and my world crumbled in an instant.
Was this bastard referring to the mansion that I used my life savings to buy, the only property in my name because I’d used all my money to saved his ass from going to jail, when he’s on the brink of being taken away.
I reached for his shirt, and grabbed him like a thief…. well, he is already a thief, locking eyes with his and firmly asked once more.
"Desmond, which mansion are you talking about? Because you can't be referring to my mansion, right?” Trying hard not to break down, “This is all I have left and you also know that and you can't just stand here and be telling me all that s**t and and expect me to believe you. So please, please..." My voice trembled and tears streamed down my face uncontrollably as I pleaded, "Tell me the truth, which mansion did you use as collateral?"
"Honey, you should calm down. I promise to pay it back soon. Please don't worry about it, it's just a small chumps," Desmond reassured me but I definitely know that it's all a f*****g lie.
His words left me feeling numb, my legs trembling and in anger, I smacked my head into his, making him fall down with a bleeding nose.
