It was almost midnight, and Billy and I weren't the only exhausted people in our little hunting party. Pete and Darius said they'd take the first driving shift, then we'd trade them out in a couple of hours so they could get some sleep too. Like Billy, Pete had a heavy foot, and was pushing eighty once we'd passed through Brigham City. At that rate, we'd make Elko by 4 a.m., even with a stop to switch up drivers.
