Orphic
The place smelled and looked exactly like it was when we left it. The narrow tunnels stretched endlessly beneath the city like a maze built for ghosts. The musty smell and the smell of dust that filled the air.
I tightened my grip on my bag as I walked through the tunnels and heard the echoes of my footsteps.
I reached the end of the tunnel and saw the room where Luke and I used to hide. I faintly smiled as I was reminded of the memories we had before. I slowly opened the door and saw some of our things still there. Some of my clothes, a blanket, a mushed pillow, and more.
Then, I hear footsteps echoing through the tunnels as he steps on the water. I quietly hid and used my X-ray Vision to see who was that.
A guy.
Tall, Blonde Hair, Brown Eyes.
A guy I don’t recognize. Based on his actions, he’s carefully watching his back to see if someone followed him, he looks like he’s hiding too. But how did he know the place?
As he arrived where I am, I faced him. I stared right into his soul to intimidate him.
“Who are you and why are you here? I questioned him.
“I’m Merlin.” he introduced himself. “I live nearby. I ran away from my home.” he explained.
“Why?”
“Let’s just say, my principles don’t really align with theirs.”
I nodded. I didn’t need to hear any more. Whether I hear it or not, I don’t trust him.
“How about you?” he asked.
“What?”
“Your name, and why are you here?”
“Why would I tell you that?”
“Okay then.”
I can’t do anything now since Merlin arrived here, I can’t tell him who I am let alone show him what I am and who I am. Maybe this person is a mortal.
I was deep in my thoughts, thinking how am I supposed to look for a solution about the Waldroms when suddenly he reached out some food from his bag and heated it up using his laser eyes.
I just stared at him for a moment when he realized I was watching him.
“Oh, yeah I have powers. Ta da!”
But why haven’t I seen him from the academy? Who is this guy?
“So, mystery girl” he broke the silence. “Where are you from?”
“Far away from here.” I answered coldly.
“Can you at least tell me your name?” I groaned and rolled my eyes at him.
“Orphic”
“Well, nice to meet you Orphic.”
As he was eating his food, his sleeve slipped and his arm revealed a black mark.
A Waldrom.
I have to get out of here as soon as I can. Then, he noticed me staring at his mark.
“Oh that” he started. “I got it when I was a baby. My family has this tradition where a new born gets a mark so that people would know who we are,” he explained.
“Who are you?” I asked pretending to not know.
“Merlin Waldrom,” he admitted. “But I’m not one of them who kills people and stuff.”
“As I said, I ran away because I don’t like their way of handling problems.”
“What happens?”
“They kill people whenever something doesn’t go their way,” he explained. “I eventually got tired of it and left them.”
I just stared at him.
“I tried to stop them, believe me. But yeah, who am I to tell them what to do.”
Suddenly,
“Orphic…” a weak voice ringing in my ears.
Luke.
“They found me.”
“Who?”
“The Waldroms.” My heart shrunk.
“Save them—”
Suddenly, the connection cut off. I can’t feel Luke anymore. The academy is in danger. I have to save them.
I immediately packed my things and was about to leave when Merlin grabbed me.
“Where are you going?”
“I have to go somewhere.”
“I will come.”
I didn’t have time to argue so I just agreed.
With one snap I was back in the academy with Merlin. When I went to the dorm room, I saw no one.
As I turned around, I fell violently to the ground.
