Chapter 1
The school bell rang, and students immediately rushed to their classrooms. I—Orphic Calypso—stepped inside the room, feeling everyone’s eyes on me the moment I entered. Raven hair, coffee-brown eyes, natural-beige skin tone I was used to it by now—the silence, the tension, the whispers. People always described me as cold and distant, and honestly, I didn’t mind. I walked toward the empty seat beside Audrey—my friend. Platinum Blonde hair, Hazel Green eyes, creamy beige skin tone. But before I could sit down, a deep voice stopped me. “Hey! This school isn’t for people like you.” I turned around and saw Kendrick, tall, athletic build, chocolate brown hair, smirking behind me while his friends laughed. Before Audrey could defend me, I lightly touched her arm to stop her. “It’s fine,” I muttered. Kendrick and his friends kept laughing as if humiliating people was some kind of talent. Thankfully, the professor entered the room before things got worse. “Okay, class, take your seats.” The room finally settled down. The final bell rang later that afternoon, signaling the end of classes. “Finally, Friday night,” Audrey groaned dramatically beside me. “I can finally sleep for hours.” I chuckled softly at her. “Hey, about earlier…” I immediately recognized the voice before I even turned around. Kendrick. He walked toward us with his hands in his pockets, looking unusually nervous. “I’m sorry,” he said. “I was just trying to get your attention because I like you.” Audrey and I exchanged shocked looks. “So maybe we could forget about what happened earlier and hang out tonight?” His eyes stayed fixed on me. “What do you say?” I studied him carefully. “Sure,” I answered calmly. “Why not?” A grin spread across his face. “Great. Come to my house at 7.” As soon as he left, Audrey stared at me as I had completely lost my mind. “Seriously?” she asked. “A date with Kendrick? At his house? You know he’s a player, right? He’s probably just trying to sleep with you.” I shrugged. “Relax, Audrey. Nothing’s going to happen tonight.” At least, not the way Kendrick expected. At exactly seven o’clock, I stood outside Kendrick’s house wearing a black fitted dress and matching sandals. The moment he opened the door, his expression practically froze. “Wow,” he breathed out. “You look amazing.” “Thanks,” I replied casually as I walked inside. His house was larger than I expected. Expensive decorations, dim lighting, expensive furniture—everything screamed money. “You can sit there,” he said, pointing toward the sofa near the fireplace. “I’ll be right back.” As he walked away, Audrey’s warning echoed in my mind. “He’s a player.” I already knew that. I also knew exactly what Kendrick planned to do tonight. And I came prepared. I slowly removed my coat, exposing my shoulders and back. I didn’t need to turn around to know Kendrick had returned behind me. I could practically feel his stare. A smirk tugged at my lips. Moments later, I felt his hand wrap around my waist. “I got you something,” he said. I turned to see him holding a gift box tied with a ribbon. “What’s this?” I opened it and nearly laughed. Inside was a maid outfit… and handcuffs. Of course. An idea immediately formed in my mind. I slowly pulled out a blindfold from behind me. Kendrick grinned. “I like where this is going.” He removed his shirt and lay down near the fireplace while I handcuffed one of his wrists to the table beside the couch. “You’re going to remember this night forever,” I told him. He laughed confidently, completely unaware of what was really happening. While he sat there blindfolded, I dressed him in the maid outfit without him noticing. Then I took out the items I had brought with me. When I finally removed the blindfold, his confident smile disappeared. He looked ridiculous. Before he could react properly, I shoved him backward. “In your dreams,” I said coldly. His expression darkened. “Do you really think I’m stupid?” I crouched in front of him. “Now, I’m going to ask you a few questions. And trust me—you should answer honestly.” I tilted my head slightly. “Did you bring other girls here too?” “No.” I immediately electrocuted him. His scream echoed through the room. “I warned you,” I said calmly. “Answer honestly.” He glared at me with hatred burning in his eyes. I leaned closer. “Did you force them to sleep with you?” “I did not!” Another lie. Another shock. “You’re pathetic,” I hissed. “I know what you’ve done to those girls.” My anger finally surfaced. “I know how you got away with everything. Your money. Your connections. Your family.” He stayed silent. “You ruined lives, Kendrick.” I stood up slowly. “And now you’re finally going to pay for it.” He laughed nervously. “You’re insane.” “Maybe.” I pulled out a lighter shaped like a dragon and flicked it open. His expression immediately changed. “What did you do?” The flames quickly spread across the fabric of the maid outfit. Then realization hit him. “You poured gasoline on me?!” I smirked. “Oh, did I?” “You’re a psychopath!” He roared. “Maybe but you? You’re nothing but a scumbag.” He struggled desperately against the handcuffs while the fire spread faster. “You won’t ruin anyone else’s life after tonight,” I whispered. I leaned closer and kissed his cheek mockingly. “Thanks for tonight,” I told him. “I’ll never forget it.” Then I turned around and walked away while the fire consumed everything behind me. By Monday morning, the entire school was talking about Kendrick. “He’s missing,” Audrey whispered the moment I arrived. I tilted my head slightly. “That’s shocking,” I said sarcastically. Her eyes narrowed at me. “You know something, don’t you?” Before I could answer, the principal’s voice interrupted us. “Miss Calypso.” The room fell silent. “This is your final strike. You are officially expelled from this school due to multiple offenses, including suspected involvement in Kendrick William’s death.” Whispers erupted across the classroom. I stayed silent. The principal continued speaking while officers entered the room. But honestly? I didn’t care. Because for the first time in a long time… someone like Kendrick would never hurt another girl again. After everything that happened with Kendrick, I barely slept. I spent the night staring at my ceiling until my phone finally rang. Audrey. I answered immediately. “Hey,” I said quietly. “I’m leaving for England tomorrow morning.” There was silence on the other end. “They didn’t have enough evidence to arrest me,” I explained. “But I’m not going back to school anymore.” “What?” Audrey sounded upset. “But they didn’t prove anything.” I sighed. “I’ve already broken enough rules for them to expel me.” The truth was… I didn’t belong there anymore. “I’m sorry, Audrey.” She didn’t answer. “Audrey?” Still nothing. A few seconds later, I ended the call. The next morning, I boarded my flight to England. As I stared out the airplane window, I kept thinking about what waited for me there. A new school. A new beginning. And hopefully… answers. My parents had always wanted me to transfer to Emrys Academy. Now I finally understand why. The moment I arrived at the academy, everything felt different. Different but weirdly comforting. As if I belong here, as if this is my home. The students. The atmosphere. Even the air itself felt strange. “Miss Calypso?” I turned toward a woman approaching me. “I’m the headmistress,” she introduced herself while offering her hand. “And this is Zara Hendrix. She’ll help you settle in.” The girl beside her smiled brightly. “Hi, I’m Zara.” I nodded politely. Almost the same as me, she looked unapproachable and cold, with her platinum blonde hair, her natural-beige skin and her blue eyes that stares deep into your soul. As she toured me around campus, everyone caught my attention because the students here weren’t normal. Some manipulated objects without touching them. Others used magic openly, as if it were completely ordinary. Immortals. Every single one of them. “Interesting,” After the tour, Zara led me toward our dorm room. Apparently… We were roommates. Before I could fully unpack, someone knocked on the door. A tall, dark haired guy stepped inside. “Did you hear about the new student?” he asked. Zara laughed. “She’s literally standing behind me.” The guy immediately looked toward me. “I’m Cyfrin.” He held out his hand. I just stared at it until he finally let his hand down. “Are you coming to the welcoming party tonight?” he asked. I raised an eyebrow. “What welcoming party?” Zara and Cyfrin exchanged excited looks. And suddenly I knew I was about to hear something ridiculous. Apparently, students celebrated newcomers by throwing a massive secret party. And according to them… The tradition ended with the new student jumping off the rooftop. I honestly couldn’t tell if they were joking. But based on their expressions? They were completely serious. “Sure,” I answered eventually. “Why not?” As we were talking about this welcoming party, the head mistress knocked into our dorm room and introduced someone. “Miss Calypso, someone is looking for you.” Audrey. And who is that? “Surprise” “What are you doing here?” I asked. “Finally!” Audrey shouted dramatically. “Do you know how hard it was to find you?” I sighed. “You’re not supposed to be here.” The guy beside her frowned. “Blake, by the way,” he introduced himself. “Why not?” asked Audrey. “Because this school is different.” Audrey laughed awkwardly. “Pfft, okay different” said Blake. Before I could answer, Cyfrin raised his hand. Suddenly, Blake started floating. His eyes widened. “Yeah, different..” Cyfrin smirked while raising his eyebrow and tilting his head. Audrey and her friend stared at us in complete shock. I crossed my arms. “This academy is filled with immortals and people with abilities. So, unless you want your minds destroyed, you should leave.” Zara threatened. Instead of looking terrified… Audrey looked amazed. Of course she did. Her friend looked even more excited. “This place is awesome,” he said. A few minutes later, Blake somehow convinced everyone to prank the professors. I honestly should’ve said no. Instead… I joined them. While Professor Amaya was walking while holding her coffee, Cyfrin used his Telekenisis to make the coffee float and spill it on her, which stained her uniform. We all hid behind the corridors while silently laughing at her. Another prank we pulled was when Freya, another student, was walking by, and Zara used her Umbrakinesis to cast shadows and scare her. I hate to admit it but I actually had fun. This is the first time in a while that I smiled. Later that night, the welcoming party finally started. Music blasted through the secret room while students danced, laughed, and drank. The atmosphere felt strangely alive. Almost freeing. Then Cyfrin and Zara grabbed my wrists. “It’s time,” Zara announced excitedly. I already knew what came next. But Audrey and Blake looked completely confused as we climbed the stairs toward the rooftop. The wind hit my face the moment we stepped outside. I climbed onto the railing while Audrey stared at me in horror. “Orphic…” I looked down at the ground below. Then I let myself fall. For a few seconds, there was nothing except silence and gravity pulling me downward. Then pain. Then darkness. And finally… healing. By the time I walked back onto the rooftop, Audrey looked like she was about to cry. She immediately hugged me. “What is wrong with you?!” she shouted. I awkwardly patted her shoulder. “I’m immortal. I’m fine.” Blake looked fascinated. “So you can survive anything?” “Pretty much,” Cyfrin answered. “The welcoming ritual symbolized rebirth.” Zara explained. Honestly? I thought it was dramatic. But fitting. The next few days passed quickly. Audrey ended up sharing a dorm with Zara and me while Blake stayed across the hall with Cyfrin. Classes at Emrys Academy were nothing like normal schools. Everything here reminded me that I wasn’t human. One night, the headmistress gathered all the students together. “We’ll begin rehearsals for the Enigmatic Dance immediately.” Everyone cheered. I barely paid attention. Because my necklace had started glowing again. Bright purple. Just like before. And every time it happened… My eyes glowed too. Something about that necklace was connected to me. I could feel it. And I needed answers.
