The next evening at Emrys Academy, I decided to look for more clues about the enchantress and how my family got hold of it. Was it really ours? Did we take it? Did my family make it?
As I was strolling through the walls of our school, at the end of the corridor stood a massive iron door. ‘A Forbidden Library,’ it says. I pressed my hand against it. It unlocked instantly. The moment I stepped inside, the smell of old paper and magic hit me. Thousands of floating books circled the ceiling.
I walked deeper inside. “Looking for something?” I froze. Cyfrin stood behind a shelf, arms crossed. “How did you get in here?” I asked. He shrugged. “Same way you did.” I sighed. “You followed me.” “Obviously.” I should’ve been annoyed. Instead, I wasn’t. We moved through the library together in silence until I found what I was looking for. A book bound in dark brown leather. T
The Emrys Academy Batch 1961 Records.
Cyfrin stepped closer. I rummaged through the pages and saw my parents. ‘Balthazar Alyus’ and ‘Morrigan Proserpina’. “That’s your family?” I nodded slowly. One page stood out immediately: THE ENCHANTRESS DOES NOT CHOOSE ITS OWNER. IT CONSUMES THEM.
My breath caught. Cyfrin leaned closer. “What does that mean?” “I don’t know,” I whispered. But I think I already did. The necklace wasn’t just a power. It was something alive. Something waiting. And I was holding it.
The door suddenly shut. The books are flying around. A light suddenly appeared in front of us. It showed something kinda like what would happen or what happened? It swirled around for a moment, then revealed something, someone.
Me.
‘BEWARE OF THIS PERSON’
What? Beware of me? Why me?
“We should go.” Cyfrin looked at me worried.
I nodded, staring at the ground.
The whole walk back to our rooms was so fast, I didn’t even notice. Silence filled the air. “Are you okay?” Cyfrin stopped and held me in between his arms. “Yeah.”
Another sleepless day, but I went back to our castle and looked for answers again. I must’ve missed something before.
I saw the photograph of my mother again, but what caught my attention was the writing behind it. ‘Waitomo Cave, New Zealand’.
I didn’t see this before.
The other day, I didn’t see this. There was probably someone who wanted me to go to this place, someone watching me. I wandered through the cave and saw nothing. But then, a shadow. Someone was waiting for me, expecting me to come. I followed the shadow. It led me to a huge door, a dusty one, then suddenly, it opened.
“Who are you?” I demanded, investigating the person wearing a black hoodie while its back was in front of me. It slowly removed his hood, revealing themself. “Orphic.” A woman, how did she know me? “The heir of the enchantress.” “H-How did you know that?” I stuttered.
“I am Theodora Alyus,” I remember that name. I remember her taking care of me while I was still a toddler. I remember her talking to my mother about me being the heir and about my future.
My grandmother.
“Grandma?” I almost cried.
“Orphic, take care of that necklace like it’s your life.”
“I know, Grandma, the Waldroms are looking for it.”
“Not only the Waldroms, dear. Also, the Blackwoods, the Bourbons and a lot more. Your parents sent you here to look for him.”
“Who’s him?” I asked cluelessly. Then I was surprised when she vanished quickly from my sight. I turned around to see what it was.
Cyfrin.
“Why did you follow me again?”
“People are looking for you. You’re in danger. I don’t want you to get hurt.” He said while looking at me straight into my eyes.
We got distracted when we stumbled when we felt the cave quaking; it was as if we weren’t supposed to be there. “This is the Alyus’ territory. You shouldn’t be in here.” I revealed to him. “W-wait, what? Then why are you here?” Oh no.
“Don’t tell me you’re an—”
“Yes, I am. Now let’s run!”
We ran as fast as we could to escape the cave before it collapsed. Luckily, we got out just in time.
“You’re an Alyus?!” Oh my god, he’s so dramatic.
“I can’t believe it, she's an Alyus,” he whispered to his self
“So uh, you know where the enchantress is?” Should I tell him? I think I can trust him already.
“Yes,” I admitted. “I have it.”
“That’s so cool.” “Can I uh see it?”
“That. That I won’t allow.”
“Okay, understandable.”
“I can trust you with this, right?” I suspected him.
“Yes, of course. I won’t tell anyone.”
“Even Audrey and the others?”
“Yes.”
Good. I can’t let anyone know my true identity and that I have the enchantress. I can’t trust anyone. Cyfrin is the only one I can trust; he’s the only exception.
“Now that you know, will you stop following me everywhere I go?” I sighed, then started to walk away from the cave.
“No, duh. More reason I should protect you.”
“They’d be suspicious of us.”
“No, they will not.”
“I got this.”
His meaning of “he got it” wasn’t what I expected. See, here’s what happened: We returned to the Academy and what we first saw was the three of them.
“I told you, they were together” Audrey declared.
“Why are you two together?” asked Zara.
“We just went out.” Cyfrin answered first.
“Out where?”
“Out… on a… date.” What? That excuse is so lame.
“So, you’re together, huh?” Blake.
“No–” Cyfrin cut me off
“Yes, right?” He put his arm around my shoulder and signaled that I just go with him.
“Y-yeah.” What is this weird feeling? My palms are sweaty, my heart is racing and I feel like my head is spinning.
