Cut from the Same Cloth

"Why are they looking at me like that?" Luna whispered into his ear. His pack was rather large, but news traveled fast. The fact that he was holding her hand was probably another indicator that she was his mate. He could say a lot of good things about his pack, but if there was one thing off about them, it was that most of them were suspicious of newcomers, especially if she was about to lead them alongside their Alphas. It was unlikely to have two Alphas in the first place, but luckily this pack was big enough for both his and his brother's egos. "They are trying to figure out who you are," he answered, giving her hand a gentle squeeze as he led her from the truck towards the fields of crops. Green this time of year, waiting to ripen and turn a soft golden color. Almost like her hair. "Don't they know?" "They can guess," he chuckled and gave her a little wink. "They might need a minute to warm up to you, but they are fiercely loyal." "Warm up to me? Why would they? I am a rogue wolf. I am an outsider." "For now," he put his arm around her shoulder, making sure everyone understood exactly who she was and why she was here. This was not some alliance they formed with another pack for their good. No, this was about something else. About her. About how she decided she wanted to fit into her new pack. Her new home. "You mean, if I stay?" "Luna," he groaned. "I thought we moved past this." "Have we?" she sighed. "I've only been here for less than 24 hours, and I started out as your prisoner, if you want to recall." "Oh. I recall," he groaned, remembering perfectly. Her body exposed to them, glistening with a thin sheen of sweat and dirt. The way he let them take her in a crazed moment. "Focus," she nudged him playfully. "On?" "The conversation," she shook her head in amusement, knowing exactly where his mind went. "You mean the part where you keep telling me you want to leave?" He stopped her and turned her to face him. "The longer you're here with us, the harder it gets. Every time you say you should leave, it's like a stab to the heart. Just... remember that next time you get cold feet," his fingers brushed her long locks behind her ears. "I don't mean to hurt you," she whispered. "I know," he caressed her cheek. "You're just scared. I am just not sure of what." "The future," she sighed, making him c*ock his head to the side. "The fortune teller is afraid of the future?" "Maybe that's exactly why," she shrugged. "It's unreliable. It's fickle. It's constantly changing, and you'll never really know how one tiny decision changes the fate of everyone around you." "A decision like letting me love you?" "Yes," she admitted in a low breath. "What if it's the right decision? What if it's what fate wants?" "Fate? Is that who's in charge of your future?" "Maybe. I wouldn't know, but I like to believe so. I like to believe that there is a reason you found my brother and I found you. I want to believe there is a reason my father didn't kill you when I know he wanted to." "Geez, thank you." "He's fierce when it comes to protecting his family. He thought you hurt Aiden. Despite that, he brought you here. To us," he now cupped her face with both hands. "Even you can't deny that it means something." "Probably," she sighed. "I just..." He wouldn't let her finish the sentence. Instead, he shut her up with a kiss. A long and desperate kiss to make her understand how much she meant to him. They may have just met, but he knew with every fiber of his being that she belonged to him, and vice versa. She was his, and he was hers. "You are my inevitable future, Luna. Whatever that may mean, you are it!" "God, you are good with words!" "Well," he grinned sheepishly at her, "I am leading a pack." "Yeah? Do you charm them like that too? Lull them into doing what you want?" "No," he shook his head, "again, I am just stating things the way they are." "Don't you mind sharing me with your brother?" "No. We had our whole lives to come to terms with this. We knew it was very likely that we would have one and the same mate. Unless you have a twin sister." "No. I don't. Just an older brother." "Nah," he shook his head, "that wouldn't work for either one of us." "I guess I'll have to do then," she curled her fingers into his shirt. He wasn't wrong. Being his mate meant she was bound to him, a bond that was inevitable, so she might as well give in to it. Into her blossoming feelings for both Asher and Aiden. "Oh, you'll do," he snuck his arm around her waist and pulled her flush against his chest, "you most certainly will, little mate." She smiled, but her hand reached for something invisible around her neck. "You keep doing that, why?" he asked. "I had a necklace, a good luck charm, but I lost it when I ran from you," she explained, "it must have torn when I shifted. It's worthless, but..." she shrugged, "touching it became somewhat of a nervous habit of mine." "Are you nervous?" "Not as much as I should be," she told him truthfully, "maybe I am just a little worried, but we don't need to get into that again. I have a request, though." "Anything." "I need to go back home.” “Luna,” he groaned, but she placed her hand on his chest. “Not to leave, I am staying, but I need a few things. I can’t keep burrowing your mothers’ clothes.” “Oh, of course, we can go and grab some of your things tomorrow.” “I can go by myself, you know,” she challenged him, but by the way his lips tightened she knew he didn’t trust her to come back. She wouldn’t trust her either. Maybe she would change her mind once she was alone and at a safe distance from him and his brother. Then again, she already liked having them around. “Holy-,” she gasped as a huge raven landed in Asher’s shoulder, he seemed a bit taller than the average raven and his feathers shone purple in the sunlight. “Not holy, just good ol me,” the raven said and her eyes went wide. It had a strange voice that reminded her more of a frog than that of a bird. “Why is the bird talking?” she took a step back, watching as the bird c****d his head to the side. “It… is not?!” Asher answered. “So, you can hear me, huh? Interesting,” the raven flapped his wings and jumped onto her shoulder, “name is Indigo.” “This is my sisters raven,” Asher explained, “Indigo. He’s… attached to her.” “That’s putting it nicely,” the bird commented, “she’s cursed. I’m here because of it. Magic. And it always comes at a price. But who am I telling this, huh? You know, don’t you.” “Uhm,” she frowned at him, “why-,” “Can you hear me? Because you and I are cut from the same cloth, sister. You and I sort of come from the same place, that’s why you can talk to me. He can’t-,” he flapped one wing and pointed at Asher, “he’s just a regular wolf. Not that special if you ask me.” “I-,” Luna frowned at the animal. She wasn’t sure what he was talking about, but it somehow made sense. Her powers did come at a price. What she didn’t know was what place the raven was talking about. Is there another world? A place where here visions came from? "Are you alright?" Asher asked, his face filled with concern. He wasn't sure what was happening, but her reaction to Annie's raven seemed odd. She wasn't afraid of him, but there was clearly some confusion there. "Yes," she frowned, watching as Indigo took off. Apparently, Annaleigh had decided to come back home for a while. He couldn't shake the feeling that it had something to do with her endless curiosity and the fact that her brothers had finally found their mate. "Would you like to go back?" "No. Let's finish this. I want to see everything!" She blinked a few times, as if gathering her thoughts, but when her eyes met his again, she smiled. "Can I see the gardens?" "Of course you can," he loved that spark of excitement in her eyes, the worry lifting from her face. It made her look carefree and happy, almost like a soft glow that he would love to capture. He wanted to see it in her eyes every single day for the rest of their lives. He wanted to be the reason it was there, to give her that kind of freedom and offer her everything he had. Every last bit of himself.
