I went through my rounds for the day, and finally got to go home. My feet were killing me from standing so long coupled with the long bike ride home. I flicked the jeep off as passed by it and went inside where I found my mom waiting for me. And there she was, sitting on the living room couch, with her arms crossed, giving me the same look she had been giving me for the past year and a half. " So I got the job" I tried to divert her attention away but she was like a hawk, locked onto its prey and unyielding.
" Yeah? That's great! Now what about Dennis" She pestered. I had heard this speech a thousand times by now. I knew she didn't approve of Dennis and and way he treated me. She had made that very clear from the beginning.
" Look. Mom..it's not that easy. Me and Dennis are complicated. And we have our problems..but we work through it" I tried to explain but this woman was hearing none of it.
" The boy literally threatened to beat you. And he would have if I hadn't been there. Thank God that I was " my mom shivered. She was always so concerned about me. But I knew it was just from love.
My dad walked in, not too long after me. He had just gotten home from work. He was a factory worker, manufacturing everything from car doors to off brand MP3 players.
" Did you two have the talk yet? " Dad asked as he came in, and took a seat beside my mother. He was still wearing his coveralls covered in dirt which mom would normally get mad about but she didn't this time. I could tell she was serious.
" Sweetie. I just don't want to turn on the news and find out that you died" mom said in a sympathetic voice. I know they both didn't want me hurt but Dennis wouldn't truly follow through with it. He would never take things that far. He would never cross that official line. He loved me and I know he would always keep me safe. I just wish that they could see that. I wish they could see him for who he truly is.
" We are never going to get through to you..are we..? " Mom asked. I didn't know what she wanted me to say. I freaking loved him. We were going to get married someday. And yes, I had wanted to break up with him but that was a moment of weakness. I got scared, I got insecure, and I almost hurt him in the process because I was so concerned about myself. That wasn't fair to him. He had the right tk be mad at me. And then I went and had the nerve to ask him for a ride. Of course he wasn't going to give me one. I needed to call him tonight and apologize.
" Dinner will be ready soon..I guess " Mom sighed and stood up and made her way to the kitchen. Dad didn't really have anything to say to me other than a dissapointed look which I tried to ignore as I made my way to my room and pulled out my phone.
The phone rings and Dennis answers. Thank God he picked up. " Hey..how are you? " I didn't want to impose or anything. " I'm fine, you? " he answered, he still sounded cold to me. " I wanted to apologize for bothering you earlier. I got the job.." I knew he would would at least proud of me that i was doing something with my life for a change.
" Yeah. That's good " his short answers were killing me inside. How could I make this up to him? How could I show him that I'm not thinking of breaking up anymore. That I didn't really mean it to begin with. " I'm sorry Denny...I'm sorry about the fight. I never meant to hurt you. I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make things right. Maybe with the job I can pay you back for all the money you've spent on me? "
I was begging by this point. I just wanted him to forgive me. I needed to hear him say he loved me again. No matter what that took. " Anything? " he asked me, and I responded ' yes ' immediately without thinking it through.
" So we can finally have s*x then? " he asked me which left me speechless. I knew this was coming. He had been beginning for months and had been pushing it further and further. He wanted my clothes off and I had always found one reason or another to get out of it. But he had started pushing harder and I knew I was going to have to give in at some point. " Ye..yes " I answered. I didn't want want do this. I knew that I shouldn't. I knew it wasn't the right thing but yet there I was, agreeing to this. If it could make him love me again then I was willing to do it.
" I love you.." I said, hoping that he would echo it back but instead he just informed me that he would be coming over to pick me up in an hour. " Well Mom is making dinner.." I tried to explain. " So I guess that means you won't do anything then.." He answered which, of course, made me feel bad and I agreed to meet with him regardless. I could just get food later when i got home. It was fine. Nothing stood in the way of that. Dennis would be happy and that means I'd be happy and we could get back on track. Back to how things use to be.
Dennis rolled up in his parents Van. It was one of the latest models and had a gps along with seat warmers. It was amazing and so much better than mom's beat up old jeep. He drove us back to his house and lead me into his bedroom. He had junk piled everywhere ranging from games to movies to old pizza boxes. It was..disgusting. But, he was just a little lazy and needed some help with motivation sometimes. I had always tried to give him that motivation but I never wanted to push too hard.
" So..can we stop fighting? " I asked, as he turned me around and began kissing me. The kisses were nice at first but then he started to unbutton my shirt and I could feel my anxiety rising. But this time, he wasn't stopping at me trying to pull away from the kisses. His hand was traveling up my shirt and he was locking his other hand around me.
" Dennis..please stop" I begged but it only made him go further up my shirt and begin tugging at my bra. It all happened so quick, his last tug on my bra, him laying on the ground with my knee pointed outwards. " I'm sorry..I'm sorry" I tried to help him back up but he shoved me away, knocking me into one of his dressers. " Get the hell away from me " he screamed at me. My vision was kind of blurry considering I hit my head pretty hard against the drawer. I couldn't see well but he dragged me out of his room by wrist and pushed me out of his front door. I had fallen on the driveway pavement but managed to catch my footing. He slammed the door and left me on my own.
He took me in his car to get here. And it seemed like he had no intention of taking me home. Which means that I would be walking home. My head hurt and some of the buttons from my shirt had been ripped off but I knew I would survive. I was going to make it home. I had hurt him and yet promised him something I couldn't give. I wasn't ready to give. What was wrong with me? " I felt horrible but made it home, cracked the front door open and luckily by this point, my parents had made it to their room where they were going to watch their late night shows. Which honestly just means I could retreat to my room without being bothered for a change.
I closed my bedroom door behind me and locked it, before walking over to my bed and collapsing on it. I was tired and just wanted to forget about this entire day. I have work tomorrow and need my rest.
