Kynan's head was spinning. How could Amy be a demon? How the f**k could he not know? All those times they were together, he'd held her hand, he'd kissed her, he wanted her more than he'd ever wanted anyone before, and not once had he known what she was. All that time she'd just smiled at him, laughing with him. She probably thought he was a fool. The Angel who'd almost fallen for a demon. No, not almost. He had fallen for her but now, now he couldn't even stand the thought of her. He let out a roar of anger and it echoed around his home. The tortured sound bounced off the stone walls. “Hey, s**t Kynan. Could you be any louder?” Kynan threw a lightning bolt at his sister. Couldn't he get one second of peace tonight? Crystella caught the blast in her chest and was thrown backwards against the front door that she never bothered to use. “Uncalled for!” She shrieked.
“What the hell are you doing here Chris?” Kynan ripped his shirt off his chest and threw it aside. The demons had ruined it, but he still would have destroyed it. He could still smell Amy woven into the fabric.
“Mum sent me to tell you that the Silver Arrows engaged your Soul Eater tonight.” She watched her brother's gaze turn dark. “They killed most of his men, but he escaped.” Kynan let loose with a juicy curse. All that, and the bastard was still alive. “We did learn one thing though. Good old Mal was trying to start some kind of uprising. Demons ruling over humans. The same old crap really. Did he say anything to you? Or were you too busy not killing those bounty hunting douche bags?” f**k! The others knew Kynan had been at the garage. Did they know about Amy too?
“They helped in the end.” He said. “They can live another day.”
“Well, I would have slaughtered them all.” Crystella grinned wickedly. “Every... last... one.” Kynan growled, an image of Amy laying bloody at his sister's feet flashing across his mind. Her angelic face lit up with amusement. “I knew it. You went barging in there half-c****d because you're in love with one of them aren't you?” She clapped her hands together and laughed, delighted by her brother's pain.
“I don't love her.” He protested but his sister only heard an admission in this voice.
“Which one is it?” She asked. “The blonde with the big rack? The grey one? Or is it the guy with all that red hair?” She snapped her fingers. “I know. It's the cry-baby they had to drag out of there covered in blood.”
“Get out.” His voice had turned deadly.
“Really brother, what were you thinking? Betraying your oath for a demon whore.”
“Get out!” He roared striking her with several more bolts of lightning. By the time the light had faded, his sister was gone. He almost wished she would find the demonic hunters. They'd cut her down before she could even summon her first heavenly weapon. Sore, broken and in a world of trouble, Kynan peeled off the rest of his clothes and ran himself a bath. He poured scented oils into the water and tried to soak away the events of the past few hours.
The water was nice, but Amy barely registered it. There was a gigantic tear in her heart where Kynan had ripped through it. His words kept echoing in her head. He had screamed at her not to touch him, and he'd called her a monster. All her life she'd feared humans finding out what she was and turning on her. She'd finally found herself in their world only for her worst fears to come true. Only it wasn't a human male who had crushed her under his boot, it was an angel. A being of the upper world that existed solely to destroy creatures like her. At least if he had destroyed her, then she wouldn't have been in so much pain. Her sisters Paige and Sadie were fussing over her. Sadie was washing the blood from her hair and Paige was scrubbing down her arms. Paige was much more rough with her, scrubbing fast and hard. Sadie wondered why Paige was helping at all. Total opposites, the girls rarely got along. Amy didn't mind the hard strokes. The sting of the washcloth scraping against her cut skin was better than the ache she felt in her heart. They were at their parent's home under Ireland where Amy and Sadie still lived. All of their siblings had come home with them, and they all had their own opinion about what to do next.
“Angel's are nothing but barbarians. I think we should hunt down this Kynan dude and gut him!” Sly called over the arguing family members.
“The problem's not that angel, it's the Soul Eater. He grabbed Amy and used her as bait.” Damon replied.
“Because of the feathered d**k head!” Lexi chimed in.
“You heard what that angel said to her!” From Juliet.
“But what if Mali grabs her again?” Talon argued.
“Well, we're not going to let him grab her again!” Raze yelled.
“I say we let neither of them anywhere near her!” Their mother Gina entered the screaming match. Amy listened to them quietly. Her vote was for tearing Mal apart with her bare teeth. But as far as Kynan was concerned, she just wanted to crawl into a hole and disappear.
“Don't listen to them Amy. They'll calm down and sort it all out eventually.” Sadie told her softly. Paige scoffed.
“I'd rip them both to shreds.”
“Paige!” Sadie hissed at her.
“What?”
“She loves him.” Sadie whispered it to her, but Amy heard it anyway. Everything was always made louder by the cave walls. Paige made a disgusted sound. It was clear what her opinion was.
“Love is a fairy tale.” She said, dunking the cloth under the water.
“You know that's not true.” And she did. Their parents had risked everything to be together and they were still happily mated. Thirty years and ten kids later. The door opened and someone stepped in.
“Jeez dad, she's naked!” Paige yelled throwing her washcloth at him.
“I'm not looking.” Their father insisted, taking a seat on the closed toilet lid. “I just needed to get out of there before punches were thrown.” Shade's Ree nature demanded he avoided conflicts and danger. Their mother on the other hand, with her werewolf blood, loved to fight. They really were an unnatural couple. Sadie looked so much like their father with her grey skin, silver hair and amethyst eyes. But she loved to fight and hunt. Amy was the one most like her father in personality. Peaceful and cautious.
“What do you think dad?” Amy asked, speaking her first words since they'd left the garage. He paused and made a show of thinking it through.
“I think,” He said “That this Soul Eater is the biggest threat right now. He might not think he needs you anymore, but he's still up to no good. What he's doing could very well have negative outcomes for all of us, demon, human and Angel. We should focus on him.”
“And Kynan?” Amy asked.
“He could have killed you. By all accounts he should have. But he didn't. In fact, sweetheart, it sounded like he couldn't hurt you. I don't think you need to fear him, love.”
“Thanks dad.” Her father smiled lovingly at her before realising she was still unclothed. The edges of the tub and the fact that she was curled over on herself hid her body from view. But he was still very uncomfortable. Shade had preferred it before his daughters grew breasts. Shade quickly left the room and her sister's helped Amy from the tub. She wrapped a towel around herself and marched out of the bathroom to tell her family the good news. They were going to destroy the Soul Eater.
