Lexi was furious. She had completely lost her mind when she’d come home to signs of a struggle in her apartment. She could smell her sister’s blood. It had dripped all over the floor. Talen and Raze had been the first to reach the apartment. Nancy and Juliet not far behind. Lexi had contacted her family as soon as she’d realized Amy was gone. She’d used Amy’s phone. That’s when she’d seen the texts and the abundant call history. Lexi knew exactly who to blame. She was furious at the Angel. It didn’t matter that he’d denied taking her, she knew he was somehow involved. Fear for her little sister surged through her.
“There’s not much blood.” Nancy pointed out. She was the most calm and logical of all the siblings. Nancy was the genius behind all their enchanted gear. She even looked the cold analytical type with her short dark hair cut in a serious bob.
Amy's heart screamed, calling out for anyone to help him. Kynan knew she was a demon, she could see the disgust on his face, but she still couldn't watch him die. She loved him. The thought crushed her. How had she not seen it sooner? She loved Kynan and now she was going to watch him die because he'd stupidly traded his life for hers. Malicious raised his blade to deliver the first blow. The blade came down, slicing into Kynan's cheek. Amy screamed around her gag as he cut his face, neck and arms. Mal delivered viscous shallow cut after shallow cut. Each one seemed to burn Kynan as the blade made its way through his skin. “Are you watching girl?” Mal looked back at his other prisoner and was pleased with what he saw. Amy was desperately trying to pull free of her bonds and get to Kynan. She was screaming around the gag in her mouth but it was no use. She couldn't get free no matter how desperately she struggled. Mal gripped the blade in his hand tightly and plunged it down into Kynan's leg. Kynan and Amy screamed. But when he raised his blade again, the knife was torn from his grip and clattered to the ground. Amy blinked back her tears to see a silver throwing star embedded in Mal's hand. People dressed in dark clothing flooded the room and Amy was so relieved to see their familiar faces. Lexi rushed to untie her while their family fought the crowd of demons. “Thank you.” She told Lexi before rushing towards Kynan. He was on the floor still bound by chains and surrounded by battling demons. Amy threw herself over him, throwing up her shield to protect him from a sword wielding demon looking to add an Angel head to his wall. Kynan watched as Amy used her shield to protect him from the fray. He knew instantly who these people were and he stared dumbfounded that he was surrounded by Silver Arrows. Demon bounty hunters s***h assassins. Not only were they famous, but they were Amy's family. He watched her catch a sword her brother tossed her and use it to kill a vampire. She cleaved his head from his shoulders and he turned instantly to dust. She was incredible, his monster, and when she struck the chains that bound him they broke free and he was able to rise to her side. He summoned a blade of heavenly fire and made quick work of a demon who rushed at them. Amy swung her sword but it was clear that she wasn't all that good at fighting. Despite himself, Kynan fought beside her, moving with her and protecting them both while ignoring the pain of his slowly healing injuries. Amy's sword was spelled to easily cut through anything so she had to try hard to concentrate so that she could move with and fight alongside Kynan without catching him with the sword's deadly edge. As scared as she was, Amy was glad to see Kynan able to fight.
The fight was over. Kynan stood in the middle of the garage surrounded by Silver Arrows and greasy demon stains. He faced Amy and tried to meet her gaze. She looked down at her feet, ashamed. “Darling?” Amy's mother looked questioningly at her daughter. She wanted to know if she should stay or if she should join the others who were peeling off to hunt down the fleeing demons.
“It's okay.” Her voice was quiet but easily heard by her werewolf mother. Gina turned away, tugging on a stubborn Sly. He glared at Kynan, who was looking way too angrily at his sister. The need to protect throbbing inside him. Amy's eyes met Sly's, pleading with him to give her some privacy. Gina tugged at her son again and he had no choice but to reluctantly follow. Amy was relieved when her mother and brother finally left them alone. But then she realized that she was standing face to face with an angel. Even if that angel was Kynan, it still didn't make her safe. They stood there in silence for what seemed like forever.
“Why didn't you tell me?” Kynan asked, anger colouring his voice.
“Because you would have killed me.”
“Damn right I would have!” She flinched. “You're a demon.”
“And you're an Angel Kynan.”
“How long have you known?”
“After our first kiss. Lexi saw your picture and she could see what you were.” No wonder she had been so afraid of him at the aquarium.
“You knew for that long? You knew we were mortal enemies and you never said anything? Just let me go on believing you were human.”
“We're not mortal enemies.” She tried but he wasn't having it.
“You're a f*****g demon Amy! I kill demons. Every last rotten one of you.”
“Please?” She reached out to him but he stepped back.
“Don't touch me!” He roared. “You're evil. You're a f*****g Silver Arrow! Do you know how baldly my superiors want you dead?”
“They saved your life!”
“After I threw it away on you!”
“I tried to tell you not to do it!” She cried. “I tried to tell you that I wasn't worth it. That I'm not worth your life.” She was crying so hard now and she still couldn't meet his gaze.
“No, you're not.” She flinched under his words. “You're just a were bitch.”
“Only half.” She told him taking the gag from her neck and using it to rub the make-up from her face. Kynan stared at the swirling grey leopard spots that ran from her temples to her jaw. She really was a demon. “My mother's a werewolf. But my father is a Ree demon. Not even demons think Rees are worth anything more than being hunted for sport.”
“I can't believe you lied to me, I never even saw your real face.” Kynan was hurt and angry. “I liked you Amy. But you're a f*****g monster.”
“And I loved you.” She whispered it but he still heard. He should have rained lightning down on her, but God help him, he couldn't do it. Kynan flashed out of there and Amy collapsed in a pile of tears. Sly was there with his arms around her before she hit the ground.
