Kynan felt like s**t. He had gone looking for his phone only to realise he must have dropped it at Amy's sister's place. So, he'd gone over there and ended up freaking the s**t out of her. He'd flashed out of there as soon as possible, not wanting to hear her angry words or worse, her crying. The second she'd left his arms, he'd missed her. Kynan still missed her three days later. Amy had felt so good against him. He'd wanted her so badly he hadn't even thought about her feelings. He thought about them now though. He wanted nothing more than to go back to that apartment and beg for her to forgive him. And then what? Dinner and a movie? He couldn't even ask her out on a lousy date. Even what they'd done before was a big mistake. Kynan was glad no one had been watching them. Angels weren't supposed to fraternise with humans and as a Nephilim, born of an angel and human pairing, he defiantly wasn't allowed.
A kid squealed breaking Kynan out of his own head. He was at the Sydney aquarium hunting down a lead on the Soul Eater. The last victim had been here when he attached himself to her. In fact, several of the victims had been at the aquarium. It was the best lead he had since he couldn't concentrate enough to track the bastard across the country. A camera flashed and Kynan looked up to search for the source. He was disappointed to see that the camera belonged to a couple of teenagers, not Amy. He had been doing that for the last few days. Every time a camera went off, he looked for her. Pissed at himself he actively ignored another camera flash. It wasn't until he heard her laugh that he looked up and saw a head of dark red hair. Amy's blue eyes shone with amusement as she watched an octopus make its way across the tank's sandy floor. He wanted to go up to her so badly that it was causing physical strain not to take a step in her direction. Amy beamed at a blue and yellow fish before snapping another picture. She turned to move on, and he panicked. “Amy!” He called her name and she froze mid step. She turned back around to stare at him. She was shaking and he could instantly see the fear on her face. s**t! What the hell had he done? Guilt ripped through him as he approached her. She stepped backwards and found a wall of glass behind her back. “Amy I'm so sorry about the other day. I wasn't thinking.”
“That's okay.” She seemed to relax when she realised he was just apologising and not trying to murder her. “It was my fault anyway.”
“That's not true” Kynan disagreed. “I was kind of a jerk.”
“No Kynan, you weren't.” He liked the way Amy said his name much better than how her brother had said it. There was a small silence between them where neither one of them knew what to say next. He could tell she was still a bit anxious, so he turned her attention back to the fish.
“Which one is your favourite?” She searched the tank looking for an answer.
“I don't know.” She admitted. “They're all so fascinating.”
“Don't you have aquariums where you live?” As it was, she'd have to have travelled for hours to get to this one. Amy shook her head and her red hair danced around her shoulders.
“No, we don't.”
“Where are you from?” He asked. She sounded like a person in a movie, no real accent of any kind.
“Ireland.” She answered surprising the s**t out of him.
“Really?” She nodded. “Whoa, I never would have guessed that.”
“My mother's American. I probably sound a bit like her. Besides we live way out in the country away from everyone else.”
“That must be lonely.” A sad look settled on her face.
“You get used to it. Where are you from?” He found her curiosity adorable.
“France. I live away from everyone too.” He didn't sound French, but then he was an Angel, so he clearly wasn't born there. Kynan expected her to pelt him with questions about his home, but she merely turned back to the tank and smiled at a shark swimming above them.
Kynan stayed with Amy as she marvelled at the aquarium's inhabitants. She made several comments about documentaries she had seen about the various creatures and Kynan listened to them all. He kept his eyes open for the Soul Eater but since he couldn't sense any evil nearby, he merely enjoyed Amy's company. Amy loved the way Kynan looked at her. He actually wanted to hear what she had to say, and not once had he stared at a girl's chest or backside as they paraded around in far more sexier clothes than she had on. Amy was wearing a pair of jeans and a large maron sweater that hung on her in all the wrong places. She doubted he could even tell where her hips were. She did have to admit though, she was loving the attention. When they had made it all the way through the aquarium they emerged in the front area where they had come in. From there Amy saw something that made her grab hold of Kynan's hand and squeeze. Amy was squeezing his hand so tightly she was going to leave dents. Kynan's green eyes searched for the source of her terror, only to see an empty pier being pelted by rain. “Amy are you okay?” She had gone so pale but thanks to her make-up he could only tell by the colour of her lips. Why wouldn't she wear lipstick with all that powdery stuff she had on? “What's wrong?”
“The rain.” She explained. “I really don't want to go out in that.” Kynan could tell it was about more than just getting her hair wet, she was terrified. Of the rain? He squeezed her hand encouragingly.
“We can wait for it to pass.” He suggested.
“No. It looks like it's going to go on for a while. You should go Kynan.” And then once he was gone, she could run through the rain without having to worry about him seeing her face when the make-up washed away.
“It's okay. I'll wait with you.” He wasn't about to leave her alone and afraid for who knew how long.
“Are you sure?” She asked.
“Yep.” He flashed her a stunning smile that actually made a few women stop and stare.
“Okay.”
They sat at a table by the snack bars while they waited for the rain to stop. Kynan hadn't let go of Amy's hand, even when she tried to drop it. He liked the feel of her hand in his. They talked for a while and Kynan quickly found out that her favourite subject of conversation was television. Amy had explained that she'd barely gotten out of the house growing up, so TV was how she'd learned about people. Although it took a while until she learned which shows were real and which were fiction. That was when she'd started watching more reality TV and documentaries. She still enjoyed some fiction every now and again though. Kynan liked her stories, never offering up much about himself, it was better not tell her too much in case he let something slip or got caught in a lie. He liked her stories about her siblings and how she sometimes referred to her childhood home as “the cave”. “Mum loves to run.” Amy explained. “That's why we live on such a big property. She can run around all she likes without bothering anyone. Some of my siblings run with her sometimes but mostly it's just Paige. She's a lot like mum.” Kynan listened to all of her stories and every time she slipped up he'd laugh and think it was a joke. Like how she'd said that Paige had once shed hair all over her bed. He'd laughed and she made up the excuses that she'd just been straightening her hair and a bunch of it had broken and fallen out. She liked Kynan and as they talked Amy began to think that as long as he didn't find out what she was, they could keep spending time together. The thought thrilled her.
The rain finally stopped and it was time for them to leave. Amy didn't want to leave Kynan but she planed on taking a gate home and that would defiantly tip him off to her demon status. She paused at the exit, chewing her lip and avoiding eye contact. “What's wrong?” Kynan asked brushing her hair from her face.
“Can I call you some time?” She asked nervously. She really, really wanted him to say yes.
“As long as I can call you.” He teased, pulling his phone out of his pocket. She rattled off her phone number and he saved it in his phone before sending her a text so she'd have his number too. Amy looked so adorable in that oversized sweater, with her bright blue eyes and cute little nose that Kynan couldn't resist reaching down and kissing her. He kissed her lightly, remembering the last time their lips had met. He released her before lust took over, and they stepped apart. “I'll call you later.” He promised, heading away from her. Amy stood admiring him for a moment before she headed towards the closest gate that would transport her to another gate near her home under Ireland.
