Chapter Ten

317 Words
Kurt had just arrived at his luxurious penthouse, the city lights glittering beneath the floor-to-ceiling windows, when he dialed Shaun’s number. “Are you still at the hospital?” he asked, his voice calm but carrying an unmistakable edge. “Yes,” Shaun replied, exhaustion clear in his tone. “I want you on it immediately,” Kurt ordered. “Find out if anyone is missing that girl. Contact your detective friends, see if she has any family, friends—anything. I want answers as soon as possible. Understand?” “Ok, ok, keep your shirt on,” Shaun groaned, running a hand through his sandy hair. “Sorry, a bit tired. You should be too. I’ve sent a couple of bodyguards to watch over her, so once they arrive, you can go home. I'll come back tomorrow and sit with her, ”Kurt added. “How’s she doing?” Shaun stepped into the private room where Stella had been placed. The sight of her took him by surprise—he had to look twice. Even lying there, pale and unconscious, her face was breathtaking. “She’s… lovely,” Shaun murmured, still holding the phone, completely dazed. “Shaun!” Kurt’s voice snapped irritably through the receiver. Shaun blinked, shaking his head as if to clear the fog. “Oh—I mean, yes. The doctors said she’s stable for now, still asleep. Dr. George said the brain scan looks good, but she might experience some memory loss because of the bump on her head. I don’t mind staying with her until she wakes.” Kurt’s jaw tightened, though there was a faint, unspoken relief in his eyes. “Good. Keep an eye on her, and let me know the moment she shows any sign of waking.” Shaun nodded, though his gaze lingered on Stella’s serene face, still caught in a mix of awe and fascination.
