The bell above the bookshop door chimed softly as Stella stepped inside. She paused just past the threshold, breathing in the scent of paper, ink, and polished wood. Sunlight streamed through the tall front windows, warming the honey-colored floorboards. To the left, shelves climbed toward the ceiling, packed with novels, textbooks, and reference guides. To the right, a small children’s corner waited invitingly—bright rugs, low shelves, tiny chairs shaped like animals, and a chalkboard with hand-drawn stars. Opposite the shop, the school bell rang. Children poured out in laughter and noise, backpacks bouncing, some already veering instinctively toward the shop’s door. Stella smiled before she realized she was doing it. “This place has a heartbeat,” she murmured. “It does, doesn’t it?
