Late at night, when Nikolai finally returned home, the house was in chaos.
The matching couple slippers in the living room were gone. The custom-made wedding gown had been shredded to pieces. Even the completed wedding invitations had been torn apart one by one, scattering across the floor.
His lazy eyes instantly darkened with anger.
"Who the hell did this? Get out here right now! Whoever dared touch Sienna’s wedding dress must have a death wish!"
The butler lowered his voice nervously. "It… it was Miss Moretti."
At those words, Nikolai visibly froze.
He walked into the bedroom, climbed onto the bed, wrapped his arms around her waist, and let out a low chuckle.
"Why are you throwing a tantrum like a child? If you didn’t like it, you could’ve just asked the housekeeper to order a new one. Don’t upset yourself and ruin your health."
Sienna responded with a faint hum.
Nikolai immediately sensed her cold mood and laughed softly again.
"Still angry because I left you behind earlier?" He lowered his head to kiss her earlobe while his long fingers moved toward unclasping her bra.
"My fault. We didn’t finish in the car earlier. We can continue now…"
Sienna’s entire body stiffened. She instinctively tried to push him away. Then suddenly—
Crash!
The sound of a vase shattering came from the doorway.
Lucie stood there biting her lip, eyes red with tears.
"Ivan wants to send me overseas. I came to say goodbye… but it looks like I came at the wrong time. I… I’ll leave now. I won’t disturb you anymore." She turned and ran away crying.
The moment he heard she was leaving the country, Nikolai’s expression changed instantly. He grabbed his coat and rushed after her, hurriedly tossing out one sentence.
"Sienna, I need to go out for a bit."
He left so quickly that he accidentally slammed into Sienna.
Bang!
Caught completely off guard, she crashed against the corner of the table. A sharp pain shot through her abdomen, and blood immediately began running down her legs.
Hearing her collapse, Nikolai didn’t even turn around. He simply hurried away.
Cold sweat covered Sienna’s forehead as she curled up on the floor in agony, her vision turning dark in waves. A bitter sense of irony rose in her chest.
Once upon a time, he had pretended that she was his entire world. But now, the second Lucie cried, he could not even bother pretending to love her anymore.
Enduring the pain, Sienna struggled to crawl upright and called an ambulance.
On the operating table, her consciousness drifted in and out as she heard the doctor shouting anxiously.
"Where’s the injection? The patient is hemorrhaging badly! She urgently needs progesterone to stabilize the pregnancy! It’s already been over thirty minutes. If the surgery is delayed any longer, we could lose both mother and child!"
The nurse panicked. "Mr. Lennox gave all the injections to Miss Donovan. Her pregnancy became unstable after… intense activity in bed. The Lennox family owns a large share of the hospital, so nobody dared stop him…"
Pregnancy. Bed. Intense.
Those words echoed repeatedly in Sienna’s mind.
Her fingernails dug deeply into her palms until blood trickled out, yet she barely felt the pain anymore.
She forced her eyes open and looked weakly toward the frantic doctor.
"I don’t want this child anymore," she whispered. "Please arrange a termination procedure."
*****
The surgery was successful.
When Sienna woke up, heated arguing echoed beside her room.
Lucie trembled as she broke free from Nikolai’s embrace, tears streaming down her face.
"I’m sorry. It’s all my fault your fiancée ended up hospitalized. Just let me leave…"
Nikolai pinned her against the wall, gritting his teeth. "The doctor had already said she only had a mild cold. Are you seriously trying to use that as an excuse to leave again? Back then, you broke up with me over something trivial, married my brother out of spite, and now you want to disappear without another word? Or would you rather spend the rest of your life as a widow?"
Lucie burst into tears. "Yes! I deserve to be a widow! I was the one who got angry that you had entered an arranged marriage with someone else, so I married the wrong man out of spite. Then after my husband died, I shamelessly climbed into your bed. Everyone calls me a homewrecker… a slut…"
Stormy emotions surged in Nikolai’s eyes as he clenched his fists tightly, struggling to suppress himself.
"What nonsense are you saying?" he said hoarsely while wiping away her tears. "We have already got married legally. You’re my rightful wife now. Don’t humiliate yourself like that."
Sienna watched them with stinging eyes, a self-mocking smile tugging at her lips.
'Wife. What a joke.'
Then what exactly had the past three years between her and Nikolai been?
Her eyes burned as she watched Lucie crying while gripping Nikolai’s hand. Standing on tiptoe, Lucie awkwardly kissed his lips.
"Nikolai… I love you… Even if everyone curses me for seducing my husband's brother, I don’t care anymore…"
Nikolai’s body tensed. His eyes reddened with overwhelming heartache.
He pushed her against the bedside and kissed her back fiercely. Lucie let out a soft moan.
Nikolai’s voice grew low and husky. "You’re reacting already?" His slender fingers slowly moved downward.
But the next second, he suddenly noticed Sienna standing there in tears. His pupils trembled violently.
Lucie became visibly frightened and quickly stepped away from his arms.
"S-Sienna..."
Nikolai swallowed hard before speaking hoarsely. "Lucie lost her husband. Her emotions are unstable because of the pregnancy. She accidentally mistook me for my brother. Don’t overthink it."
Mockery filled Sienna’s eyes as she nearly laughed out loud.
Accidentally…
She had caught them cheating right in front of her, yet Nikolai still tried to deceive her with such a ridiculous excuse.
Her fingers curled slightly as she took a deep breath.
"Nikolai," she said quietly, "let’s cancel the engagement."
