As soon as the offer left Damien’s mouth, I rejected it. “That’s really not necessary,” I said. “I’m sure we can stay at a hotel. I know there are several nearby.”
As I spoke the words, a few gasps sounded from around us. I realized too late my error. To deny the Alpha publically like this was a terrible offense. I might as well have just slapped him across the face.
Even Damien’s face seemed somewhat more tense than a moment ago, when he had shown some clear relief learning that Ethan’s condition had stabilized.
